Welp, the cicadas are here! They are SO LOUD in the trees across the street, it's unbelievable. I saw one random stray wondered onto our porch yesterday... Those things are huge! I can hardly believe there's like a kajillion out there... :#
@BusinessWife Cicadas are not my favorite lol. I keep reading something about the 17 year kind, but I can never remember what they’re doing other than coming out. Or maybe that’s all they’re doing?
@makingbacon Yes! There are billions of them coming out. They go up into the trees to mate or lay eggs or whatever, and then shed their creepy little skins. Yuck! <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/17-year-cicadas-to-swarm-15-states-this-spring-summer/910513" title="Link: https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/17-year-cicadas-to-swarm-15-states-this-spring-summer/910513">https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/17-year-cicadas-to-swarm-15-states-this-spring-summer/910513</a>
@BusinessWife oh geez, I can only imagine the noise right now with that many cicadas. We don’t have this Brood X species of cicada where I’m at so our nieces and nephews are very interested in them emerging back east and the swarms.
Also same for me on Saturday's. I really just want to nap.
We are having a family birthday party at our house this weekend. It’s been barely controlled chaos, but it’s nice for all the grandparents to see the boys.
ooh, beach day... @axl0060 It's been way too long...
AFM, our weekend has been low key and lazy. I picked some peonies to bring inside, and we did manage to bring the girls out to play a little bit before it got too hot. Unfortunately, when DH went out this morning the engine started overheating so... ugh. He added coolant or whatever and hopefully it's fine, but anyway, nobody wants to deal with car trouble! Trying to do a little meal prepping for the week, and I want to take the baby's 9m pictures, as well as switch their beds around. So hopefully DH can help me make that happen, since he didn't end up working afterall.
@axl0060 hope you had a great beach day! I’m definitely jealous. It was rainy and super windy here today.
@BusinessWife hope the car is fine and you got loads done with DH home to help!
@livingoffpbjs glad you could finally satisfy your craving!
The weekend (edit because my phone autocorrected to this—>The Weeknd) over here is off to a good start. We went used car shopping since we have nothing the kids can ride in with the car in the shop and we were planning to buy something more fuel efficient as a backup car anyway. We picked up a used Chevy Volt but it was a couple hours away so it took literally all day. The kids were champs though so that was nice. Car update- My brothers FIL works at the GMC dealership where my car is now. I guess they all had dinner last night and my brother was telling him about everything going on with my car and I guess FIL went to the dealership today and pulled my car to at least check what codes were pulling for my flashing check engine light and is going to personally troubleshoot it Tuesday when he works next. I’m glad we’ll have answers but I feel a little bad my brother like pulled strings to make it happen but I didn’t ask him to so 🤷🏻♀️.
Oh and also @BusinessWife do you do anything to support your peonies? We just had some start blooming that I didn’t even know were on our property but they are super floppy I guess? The flower seems to heavy for the stems so they’re bending.
I do not. @fuscok88 I guess I just cut them not overly long, and have them in a not too tall jar type vase, and they all kind of cascade around in a circle. Like for my bouquet (8 blooms), probably even a pint jar with a narrow mouth would hold them together better at the top, otherwise I sorta feel like I could use another 3-5 blooms to finish filling out the shape. I have done them very short in petite little vases, like 3 blooms in something tiny that hold together at the top looks really nice, too. One day I'd love to have a proper cut flower garden that includes some of the filler / greenery plants too, so you'd have those to kind of fill in / support. Otherwise if it really bothers you, you could probably get a pack of those bubble tea straws, and that might help if you were to pull off all the leaves?
@BusinessWife I’ve never gardened before because we’ve never had the space. We bought 9 acres last year and mystery plants keep popping up all over. Maybe I should trim some blooms to help the peony’s stay upright😂 We’re also in the PNW so I have lots of wild ferns around the property I could use to round out a bouquet.
@fuscok88 Congratulations! That is so exciting. We are hoping to do that soonish, too, get some space. We are out here in a pretty rural spot, but we are renting so it's not like we have wanted to put too much effort into making permanent improvements to someone else's land lol. But that sounds so exciting, discovering what is there! We have a million ferns too, and in the spring I have actually started harvesting and cooking them to eat. Do you know if they are the edible fiddleheads?
@BusinessWife honestly no idea. My husband would know for sure, he’s always pointing out what’s what to me. I’m from New England originally so there is a lot of different greenery out here than I grew up with.
Can’t blame you for not wanting to improve someone else’s land. That’s exactly why we bought instead of trying to rent a large place.
ETA: I'm envious of y'all's gardening talk, we live in a condo with no outdoor space and I keep thinking that maybe I'd like to garden...but I can barely keep anything inside alive xD @BusinessWife@fuscok88 if either of you ever want to post some photos of your garden or flowers, I would be very interested
@chgilmore I just took photos of my garden today to send my mom😂. We’re trying square foot gardening for our veggies. Well see how it does. My pile beans are starting to cling to their poles and I grew one whole raspberry😂 That should keep my raspberry obsessed 2yo satisfied.
I can’t find any photos of the front/driveway when my rhodys and weeping cherry tree were blooming but they were 😍😍😍

This weekend we are spending some time at the beach which is just what I needed!

@BusinessWife Sorry to hear about the car trouble! But a bonus he could help out
@livingoffpbjs I think you win!! Love the jalapeños too, perfect combination!
