Re: FFFC 5/28

  • I just vacuumed our upstairs, for the first time since, oh, idk, at least early March. We've had painters come in since then, and I never got around to cleaning up after them because "oh I'll just get a cleaning service scheduled...". 🤢 Emptied that canister waaaay too many times. But at least I did finally book a deep clean in 2 weeks! 😂

Please tell me I'm not the only one who is *horrible* about vacuuming 🙈

  • @pajamstagrams My nemesis is dusting. Can't remember the last time I actually dusted the bookshelves...

If I take a book down to read it does that count?!?

@pajamstagrams I like vacuuming. Actually washing the vinyl floor? That's my arch nemesis.

  • Yeah I mean..... I think I've gone a couple months between cleaning the toilet bowl :#

The thing that sucks is that when we do clean up the house to have people over and actually have a neat and organized living room DH loves it! Like omg this is so nice to live this way. And I say every time "well maybe we should actually maintain this so there's not junk left on the tables all the time". That lasts maybe a day. I guess right now I feel our living room is a mess because the coffee table isn't in line with the couch.

Idk if it's an old house thing, but it feels like I can clean something and then days later it already looks dirty. One day the other week I finally took some CLR to a bathroom faucet because it was coming out in all these individual streams due to all the build up on it (yay for living in a hard water area). We have a whole home water softener but it feels like it doesn't do shit. It finally came out as one stream for.... 2 days? Why should I even bother scrubbing until my arms break if it's not even going to stay that way for more than a few days??

I have grease dripping off of the vent hood in the kitchen daily, yes DAILY, and nothing I have done has stopped it. First it was dripping down along one side onto our stove. Not horrible, it's a glass electric cooktop so easy to wipe up. But now there seems to be so much grease that it's seeping through the back of it and down the wall!! I honestly feel that, when we remove this thing for our TBD future kitchen reno (the only reason I haven't tried to actually go in and see where TF all the grease is accumulating), it's going to be like those bee hive videos where someone removes sections of siding on your house and they find honeycomb that's 2 stories tall and you exclaim "holy f*** this is massive". I feel that this is how all of our house problems are. Stuff was just not maintained in any capacity for the 3 years prior to us buying it because the owner really didn't live there so fixing things is a huge hassle.

Well that turned into a bit of a rant...

  • Thanks guys, you're making me feel better 😂

@inthewoods23 have you cleaned the screens/filters on your vent hood? Maybe they're just super gross? (Also fffc, I just cleaned mine a month ago for the first time ever since we moved in 6 years ago 😬)

@inthewoods23 I totally get the old house thing. I also think it has to do with having pets. I will vacuum and mop and no matter what it looks dirty the next day. Sometimes even same day. We got our vents cleaned out thinking that would help but it really didn't. I blame it on being an old house lol.

  • @pajamstagrams I did once either last year or the year before 🤷‍♀️ which did seem to help for a little bit but then it was back to dripping on the stove after a little while.

We have a cleaning lady (she’s not a professional or anything, just a retired lady looking for extra cash so it’s pretty reasonable and worth any sacrifice in other expenses to make it happen haha) and for about 2 months at the beginning of the pandemic she wasn’t comfortable coming and we did pretty much nothing except in the kitchen. We “pick up” most nights but actual cleaning doesn’t happen outside of the kitchen unless she does it so there is no judgment here. Cleaning is the worst.

  • @pajamstagrams i am very pro roomba/robot vacuum. we have a 3 story house, and only have it on the main level, and sometimes she gets stuck in dumb AF places... but still better than me doing it.
also @inthewoods23 old house + dog + cat + no garage + no mudroom = dirt, grass, you name it. as long as the cicadas stay the eff out i guess i'll live
also like @bows22 we have someone every other week... or else it would never get done. and i don't want to spend my weekends cleaning.

  • New confession - I am most definitely working on my nearly complete puzzle that happens to be just behind my desk at home. So if someone happens to call, I can easily pop in my desk chair to take the call so no biggie. Sure I have other things I could actually be working on but meh. Save that for when we come back on Tuesday

@inthewoods23 I'm logged in to work, but same. Not really doing actual work. My jobs are all clear, it's a Friday afternoon before a three-day weekend. I'm available if they need me, but I'm actually browsing for a new coffee machine online.

  • I think it's an old house thing. @inthewoods23 No matter how much I clean, stuff just gets dusty IMMEDIATELY.  it doesn't help that all the paint that we didn't repaint when we moved in is just gross.  Like they obviously didn't use the right stuff, because the trim is literally STICKY.  So it gets crazy grimey and I can't even handle it.  It's not normal. lol Our floors are not great either, so dust and stuff gets all in the cracks, and nothing really gets it 100% out.  it's awful.

I am also pro roomba! @anniemarie887 MIL was kind enough to gift us one basically, and we keep it on the main floor.  It helps so much with keeping the dog hair down.
    anniemarie887
  • @anniemarie887 yeah I ran the Roomba downstairs earlier this week 😬 but it definitely didn't get everything so I'll probably need to try again soon. But by God, the area under our china hutch is probably freaking spotless since he (it's a he) kept getting stuck there lol
    [Deleted User]anniemarie887
  • ^^^ This sounds painfully accurate!  Do you have those little bumpers to block it off from going under there?
  • @BusinessWife we have the laser thingy (it's upstairs 🙈) but you know, I actually don't mind that much, because it's the only vacuum that will reach under that hutch, so it needed a good clean. (Hell no am I going to attach a tool to my vacuum hose and do it by hand) And I suppose it wasn't "stuck" so much as it kept circling back.

@bows22 😂😂 ours didn't come at all the entire pandemic, and had been super flaky before, so it's been the longest year+ ever because I just don't have the energy/time to clean regularly. Soooo excited to have a service scheduled now!
    [Deleted User]
  • @BusinessWife we were also gifted ours from my parents! And I don’t think that laser thing does jack shit. Ours notoriously gets stuck under the sectional where we have the laser for it to not go @pajamstagrams BUT as much as I bitch about it, still wayyyy better than me vacuuming!!
