@surrenderdorothy oh no how scary! Glad things are looking ok but wish you could have avoided the whole thing! I got pulled down by my dog last pregnancy and that wasn't fun either...
@surrenderdorothy sorry that happened to you and I hope you're feeling okay today! I'm so skittish about handling our dog now... I mostly love having a huge dog (obviously, or I wouldn't have gotten a Great Dane lol) but it can definitely be scary if they ever freak out.
@surrenderdorothy I’m glad you and the baby are alright. I hope you aren’t too sore today. In my DDs August group we had a mom deliver mid April and we were all so scared/nervous for her and baby. He’s a happy/healthy 7 year old now.
I fell yesterday too- nothing like what happened to @surrenderdorothy but I’m definitely feeling it today.
@cluckymama we live on a mountain and the mice are ridiculous. We finally got a couple of feral cats/started our cat colony and I’m looking forward to fewer mice indoors.
@surrenderdorothy, SO scary! But glad to hear baby looks good. @pickle-chips, all of this mouse talk is making me super anxious!! How do you all handle the mouse infestations?!? I can't even handle having a spider in my house. I tell DH all the time that I have visions of living in the forest surrounded by trees and nature. But then I think about all of the critters I would have to deal with and I'm like, "yeah...a manicured lawn and pest control sounds good too!"
@cyanope my H and I have this conversation all the time. I grew up on a big horse farm and definitely consider myself to be comfortable in the country, but I also am ... not a big fan of creatures. My parents had these amazing built ins in their master bedroom in the farmhouse and my mom would open her sock drawer to find snakes at least once a month. TERRIFYING.
@BourbonBiscuits, I would LOSE MY MIND! I grew up and live in suburban southern CA, so this is SO wild to me. I walked outside to a rat on my patio once and made DH disinfect the entire thing...then still wouldn't let the kids out there for WEEKS afterwards. And how do people in humid places deal with all the BUGS?!? Like, there are moms in my J18 group who live in 'buggy" areas and can't go outside during certain times of the year without dousing themselves in repellent for fear of contracting diseases from all of the mosquitos. I couldn't handle it. I'm such a wimp...
@BourbonBiscuits omg... bugs don't really bother me, a mouse would upset me but not to freak out levels... a snake in the house I just could not handle. I get upset when we occasionally have (completely harmless) snakes in the yard, I think I would literally die if I found one in a drawer.
@cyanope you just get used to it I guess? They have crazy big outdoor cockroaches in Houston (they don't live inside, might come in if windows open etc). Still don't like them but I stopped screeching every time I went out for a walk with the dog after about a month or so. You leave the bug spray by the door and spray yourself as you leave the way you do with sunscreen/sunglasses in socal.

Mice usually don’t bother me but I had one run under the bathroom door when I was going pee in December and darn near lost it.
I hope I don’t end up hating it but I scored a Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack diaper bag yesterday for $12 at a local second hand kids store. I went to see if they had anything carrier wise that I liked, and found that instead. It’s not really manly with its orange/gray/cream flower pattern, buuut the print makes me happy, lol.
I may try to get DH to go back with me soon because they also had some bassinets that looked barely used for $50 so that would save some more money.
edited because I made post last night so today wasn’t correct.
@grogu yay for the vax! such a relief to get it. @surrenderdorothy that's my worst fear! so sorry for the scare. now that i'm 27 weeks i think constantly about how my niece was already born at this point (she's 11 now). SNAKES IN A DRAWER? No, I would die. I can't. Our apartment totally had mice which we mostly figured out how to avoid by my cat would catch the one or two per year that would fall through the cracks. ugh. our house doesn't seem to have any creatures, knock on wood, but def lots of bugs. I've gotten two tick bites this year already, and found 4 or 5 crawling on me or DD that hadn't bit yet. I hate it so much. Trying to get someone out to spray the lawn ASAP. First guy I called never called me back despite me following up numerous times. The latest tick bite looks pretty gnarly and I'm afraid it's going to get infected so I've been messaging my doctor about it. We also have mosquitoes and annoying little gnats. Fun times...
Married DW 08.2013; AI 2x; IUI 6x; IUI #7 05.2015; DD born 2.2016 ; Reciprocal IVF FET #1 on 11.18.2020
@claireloSC, I had a tick bite I couldn’t really reach on my back that didn’t look good and DH started putting tea tree oil on it for me. It started looking much much better and didn’t itch as bad. Hopefully that may help you.
We had some snow in random parts this weekend too. I'll never be sure there won't be a frost until the end of May.
@claireloSC I don't know if this is an option/desire but chickens LOVE eating ticks. We have had some bad problems with them in the area and I think a lot more people are getting chickens to help deal with it.
@claireloSC if you decide to get chickens they are super easy to take care of- we have 5 full grown (they will be 4 in August) and 4 chicks currently. I love their sassy little butts.
@mrspants0809 I wish we could have chickens but our neighbours chickens were eaten by bears and we have a ton of coyotes around.
My dad had his thryoid cancer surgery today and it sounds like it was a success. He should be discharged tomorrow then start radioactive iodine treatment in a few weeks I guess??
@grogu, wishing your dad health and a smooth recovery. My mother in law had surgery and treatment for thyroid cancer about six years ago. It was frightening at the time, but she's doing well now.
@grogu, finger crossed foe a quick recovery for your dad! Also, @claireloSC, I got a tick bite years and years ago. It was awful! So ugly and itchy. I hope you can find a solution soon!
Thank you all! He's doing great and you can't even see the massive incision on his neck. So glad that part is over, up next is the radioactive iodine treatment in a couple months 🤞🏻

@Kenneylynn3 snow?! Wtf weather? That's messed up....

A bunch of of people have told me that! Maybe next year I can't deal with more to take care of right now!

@mrspants0809 I'll have to see if I can find that. I can't stand ticks! *Shudder*
There's a company out here called atlantik which has great pet/people friendly tick repellent spray and jewelry https://atlantick.ca/
Wishing your dad a speedy recovery!
