Is anyone else going crazy over searching stuff they can or “can’t” eat? Feeling normal stomach-wise, it’s been hard to remember that I shouldn’t just eat as normal.
I’ve been loading up on fruits and veg, staying away from all the typical dangerous stuff. But I am going nuts if I google food. I just had half of a Boston cream donut and I spit it out because I forgot about custard 🤦🏼♀️ It apparently should be ok because large chains would likely either use pasteurized eggs or no eggs at all. Balsamic vinegar, rice, feels like everything has some amount of danger in it 😫. Is this a FTM mom thing or just crazy me??
@usedtobeknottie I have eaten so much rice this pregnancy. I have no idea what you’re talking about and, I don’t think I want to know. Fruits and veggies have risks too. They’re always getting recalled for listeria or something or other. You’re gonna drive yourself nuts, girl. I think as long as you’re not eating raw eggs or drinking alcohol your baby is going to be fine.
YOU GUYS. I am so sick. And my husband is likely accepting a job today that is just over 900 miles away from where we currently live. I want to live in that location. We’ve talked about it for years, but I cannot fathom this move right now. 😬 I’ll suck it up but I’m scared.
@doodleoodle a move is a huge thing to throw in when life is already bringing a huge change, totally understandable. I hope you get a decent amount of time to prepare before you need to go. You got this! I hope scared can turn to excited soon for you. I’m sorry you have this stress...
And I am still eating rice, so don’t worry about that, sorry! It was just a “for instance”. I have high anxiety so I worry about everything on a good day.
@usedtobeknottie I agree with @doodleoodle. Don’t stress yourself too much. I don’t know what you’re talking about with rice or balsamic vinegar and I don’t think I want to know either lol I’d say like doodle said, stick to the common basics (alcohol, some cheese, raw eggs) and you should be fine!
@doodleoodle do itttt!! You’ve been wanting to move for awhile, right? Remind me, have you moved while pregnant or with a newborn?
@jackie_dunny I moved while I was 5ish months pregnant with my first, but it was like 5 miles away 😂 baby #3 will actually be about the same age as baby #2 was when we bought our current house. Girl... we’ll be about 1.5 hours outside of Disney if we make this move. I really don’t know how my husband could turn it down. I’ve been super supportive of him taking the job. I just hope we can all move together instead of him going ahead of us.
@usedtobeknottie it is mostly a ftm thing lol but I second what @doodleoodle said, try not to stress too much because verything carries some risk and you are going to go nuts. Stick with what your dr tells you, but my main rules are as long as it is from a reputable store/restaurant it is usually pasteurized and safe. Stay away from raw/undercooked foods, and high mercury seafood but otherwise don't stress too much. You absolutely will not hurt your baby from eating too much rice 😆
@doodleoodle I can't even imagine having to move that far while pregnant. Sending you all the good vibes that it goes smoothly ❤
@usedtobeknottie I’m driving myself crazy over food choices too. Every other thing I look up is dangerous in some way. 😩 I also bought new cleaning supplies because of the chemicals. 😬
@jackie_dunny thanks for being so on top of starting threads and keeping us honest 🙏🏾
@usedtobeknottie I remember being on top of all that with DS, but this time around I remember the next day after a cold cut sub that I'm pregnant and shouldn't have 🤣
@jackie_dunny I know!! I was thinking he might have to move ahead of us if they gave him a start date of like, 2 weeks. We just got word though that he would have to start until June! I am so jazzed. He has an interview tomorrow with a local company and unless they offer him a lot more money I hope he takes this job. Eeek
@marbellie I probably eat more lunch meat when I’m pregnant than I usually do. Sub sandwiches just hit differently when you’re pregnant 😂🤷♀️
@usedtobeknottie It's easy to get sucked down the Internet rabbithole and you do have to be careful with that because it can absolutely drive you crazy. All pregnancy food recommendations are based on risk vs benefit assessments. Many of the recommendations of foods to avoid are based on possible listeria exposure PLUS not enough nutritional benefit to outweigh the risk (why you're told not to eat deli meat but no one says not to eat a salad, which carries the same risk). @marbellie During my first pregnancy, I ate a cold cut sub because we were getting lunch catered for us at work so I didn't bring anything to eat and then it turned out it was ALL cold cuts! So I had to make a choice between the low risk of listeria poisoning or starving. Yes, oh yes, I ate that sandwich.
@amostpeculiarmlle that makes sense! My SIL was insanely ill with my nephew, but only could keep down cold subs. Her doctor gave her the ok to have one every day if that’s what it took to get nutrients. I am trying to stay with healthy foods, I can’t imagine how hard it is to have nausea make those choices for you 😬. I will try not to google as much... it’s so tempting!
@amostpeculiarmlle agree! A lot of the recommendations as far as foodborne illnesses are pretty reactionary. You’re just as likely to get listeria from cheese, vegetables, ice cream, fruit, and we don’t get told to avoid ice cream...deli meat gets blamed for all of it though. I’d read about why certain things should be limited (like mercury in some fish vs risk of a particular illness) and make a choice for yourself. I ate deli meat some last pregnancy, but I didn’t go crazy with it.
@marbellie happy to do it! I’m 5 hours ahead of the rest of you (at least) so by the time I’m scrolling on my lunch break, y’all are just waking up haha
@doodleoodle ahh I see. Sounds like a win-win situation if you ask me!
@usedtobeknottie I've already learned that eating crap is better than not eating at all. This weekend I couldn’t eat ANYTHING because I was so nauseous (not crackers, rice, toast - nothing) and the only thing I could manage was KFC. I felt really bad about it at first but it was getting to the point that I was getting extra nauseous because I was quite hungry. So I had it Friday AND Sunday which is obviously not ideal but I couldn’t eat anything else, I’d just throw it right back up 🤷🏻♀️ but my appetite is already slowwwwly getting better and I’m making sure I get those nutrients in on those days!
Yeah, the first trimester is about survival. We have been eating a lot of takeout, because the smells of things cooking absolutely kill a meal for me and I can't eat it. It's also impossible to meal plan right now. I couldn't tell you what is going to sound good in 10 minutes let alone tomorrow or the rest of the week. The second trimester is a lot easier for me and I'll clean up my eating then 😅
Hey friends, sorry I was missing this week, we took a mini (in state) vacation and the place had atrocious WiFi, so I just took it as a sign to disconnect. Trying to catch up now, hope everyone is doing well
I threw myself a nice little pity party today because DS (17 months) hasn't breastfed for over a day ago now. He's had a runny nose since starting daycare a month ago, but he would just work through it to still BF. Now I guess he doesn't feel like it's worth the fight. I think being pregnant has likely affected the quantity and taste, and so is part of his self wean reasons too.
On the one hand, I never expected to nurse this long and am grateful/feel better if he self weans. But on the other hand I didn't cradle him extra long on the last few sessions. Like they didn't feel final 😭
@marbellie your milk does change a lot when you’re pregnant since it’s getting ready for a newborn. It’s sad to finish a breastfeeding journey, but it also means new things are coming and new ways to snuggle and bond. My son is 3 and hasn’t been breastfed for over 2 years, and he still just comes and snuggles with me. Yesterday he kept asking me to give him kisses...mommy, kiss my nose, kiss my chin, kiss my hand, kiss my knuckle-boom (he calls giving a fist bump a knuckle-boom 👊).

Awww that's so cute. Thanks, I think you're right because he's been just as cuddly as before, but now my boobs have stayed inside my shirt for the duration lol.
@marbellie big hugs to you but also I'm jealous lol. DS is 23 months and I keep waiting for him to decide the milk tastes bad. I'm going to actively try to wean him once I'm three weeks past my second covid vaccine so he can get whatever antibodies I have to pass onto him.

Haha, that's a great plan! Do you have the vaccine appt booked?

Also I'm clearly over-tired, DS is 25 months not 23 months
