Prunes and acrylamide???

Hi all. The internet and Dr. Google is a scary place. I recently looked up a recipe with prunes and low and behold, google shows me how acrylamide exists in prunes, prune juice, baked and fried potatoes, and bread! Of course, all the things we make at home and that my child likes.

Apparently, acrylamide is toxic and cancerous in animal lab tests and deemed probably carcinogenic to humans. Children of course have smaller systems and process things faster, therefore taking more of this toxin in.

How many of you have given your child prunes and prune juice or nectar when they were smaller, to combat constipation and just as a healthy part of their breakfast snack? Either store bought or home made.

We also make potato pancakes at home. So apparently lots of acrylamide!

it had me so worried. I think whether this exposure can increase a child’s chance of some kinds of cancer later on in life. It makes me feel so guilty and ashamed. How did nobody ever tell me about this? Doctors didn’t. Midwife didn’t. Not to mention, it seems like prunes and prune juice are just the natural go to for tummy troubles in babies and toddlers.

Have I harmed my child? I needed to vent. And need some kind of reassurance, unless the verdict is out that this really is dangerous stuff for us!

Anyone have older kids or even teenagers where they have given them prunes and juice as little ones? Are they ok??? I know I know. A little over anxious at this point.
