So I did this first time parenting class like what to expect at the hospital, I know I'm a third time parent but knowledge doesn't hurt and it was free.  Anyway, she suggested dark-colored underwear because you will have bleeding and leakage.  The one mama asked if they were having a c-section do they still need the dark colored underwear.  Then I thought to myself this poor mama no one told her that you bleed no matter what.

Anyway idea for a new thread, ask the STM STM+ anything thread.

@bntfroggie any other good reminders? I’d love a refresher course for all the stuff I purposefully erased from my memory. So. Much. Blood. And it goes on and on and on.

@bntfroggie, I was gonna start it but then remembered so many here are STM+ moms. But I still think it would be helpful!

@becks_726 These are the notes I took, sorry I was MIA for a bit, daycare provider took a fall and cancelled the rest of last week so I was home with the kiddos.  ANYWAY

What to pack?
- Favorite things that provide comfort (pillow, blanket, nightgown, slippers)

- Any diffusers or essential oils are usually fine.  Hospitals won't allow candles

- flip flops for the shower

- white noise machine as the nurse's station can get noisy

- snacks

- clothes for your partner

- breast pump (a lot of times the hospital will have these but if you are a first-timer they can show you how to use them)

- Laptops, phones

- Chargers for everything, if you don't have a long cord charger for your phone then get one, since the outlet might not be by the bed

- toiletries (toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, soap) [They should have most of this stuff but good to have]

- clothes for baby (most places will have onesies so you really just need your going home outfit)

- laundry bag for any clothes that you guys have

MY NOTES

- I brought our baby book and they were able to do the first footprint in it right at the hospital with both kids

- I wouldn't worry too much about things to do, you will be either feeding the baby or sleeping I don't remember a ton of downtime.

- Bathing suit if you want to do laboring in a tub, but if you are comfortable letting it all hang out that;s fine

- Also a bathing suit for your partner (at my birthing class eons ago the nurse told us that one time she walked in and the husband was butt naked next to his wife)

Circumcisions

- You can have this done at the hospital but the newer protocol is to let the pediatrician do it 7-14 days after birth, after breastfeeding (or feeding) has been established

Pain Options

- Oils

- counter pressure points on contractions

- movement (walking, pacing)

- Nitrous Oxide (You must test negative for covid to be given this since it allows for particles to go into the air)

- IV Meds (Fentanol is most popular but they wont give it to you too close to pushing since it passes to baby)

- Epidural

MY TWO CENTS - Just know switching positions is the best was to progress labor but it can also hurt like a b*tch the first few contractions after switching but it does simmer down.
