Re: Product Spotlight: Baby Containers

  • I feel like we're doing ALL the baby containers possible, just because there are two babies, and we have a dog and a cat, and I want a safe place to put them down everywhere.

We have Fisher Price bouncers and Bumbo seats for our first floor, and a Bjorn bouncer and a Mamaroo for our second floor. The idea is that we'll have a seat for the girls in our work spaces just in case we need to have them with us during calls etc.

  • @mvt2003 I like the idea of having something for upstairs and downstairs. I have the Babybjorn Bouncer and it was excellent, especially when I needed to take a shower.

  • @redselig I kind of resisted the Bjorn for a while because it's pricey, but I love that it folds flat, and we've really started realizing that we need seats for them on both floors just to get basic things done like bottles and baths.

  • @mvt2003 - something on each floor is definitely needed! We didn’t have that at first and realized the mistake pretty quickly. We have the baby Bjorn bouncer and it worked great. I’m debating finding a 2nd used one for our upstairs as the space savings is great. As an aside, That little wooden toy you can buy for it is surprisingly expensive, and was worth it for us. We used a super old fisher price rocker upstairs last time which was good because it was motorized so helped with occupying during showers, but it has a really large footprint.

We also got a fisher price on the go baby dome (https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/fisher-price-on-the-go-baby-dome/6000196386420?cmpid=sem_google_en_pla_none_868545286_42591591006_None&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3dSfiPSl7gIVELbICh2V-wATEAQYAiABEgK4FPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) (tons are available on FB marketplace for way cheaper) and it was handy to have downstairs as well for when we wanted to put her down when she was sleeping. The second we would out her upstairs in her crib she’d wake up. We have a big dog so floor on a blanket wasn’t an option where we could put her down and leave her if we stepped away for a minute. This contained nicely and folds up well as well to take to travel for naps when they’re little.

Another option I know a lot of people like is the boppy lounger. That’s not really ‘containment’ though as any pets can easily access and they’re not secured in in any way.
  • It took me a second to understand what baby containers were lol.

We've got the pack and play that we used with DS.  We set up the activity mat in the bassinet portion of the pnp so that he could play without anyone worrying about the dog accidentally trampling the child.

We've got a swing that DS pretty much lived in for the first few months.  We've also got a bouncer that we could easily move from room to room.  We had a baby bjorn that we loaned out to a coworker last year.  They live like 2 hours away, so I haven't even considered driving down to get it from him - we just put a cheap bouncer on our registry.  The same coworker also has our Fisher Price sit me up that DS loved.  Thankfully, my nephew has one of these that he'll outgrow by the time little Ryan is ready for it.

As @finnflan mentioned, the boppy lounger wasn't as great for containment bc it's not confined, but we did like to leave it on our dining table or island while we ate or prepped meals.  My dog is big, so he's not allowed on any furniture, so we never had to worry about him being knocked off by our dog.

  • We have a pack n play with the raised bassinet attachment, a bouncer seat, a regular bassinet, 2 cribs and we're about to replace our swing that quit working when baby girl was about 9 months old. So I hope between these things we'll be able to contain a 15 month old and a newborn to get things done lol. Baby girl was in the swing most of the day the first few months of her life and I'm anticipating that her baby brother could be the same. I haven't felt the need for any super expensive baby containers, and I think we'll continue to get by just fine without them 🤗
