My SPD pain is so bad today 😭😭😭 I guess I overdid it running errands yesterday and didn’t realize it until last night when my pubic bone started hurting so bad. Didn’t sleep we’ll between that and my 3 year old fussing in her sleep a lot (she had a fever last night). Pain is still bad today and I’m trying to rest as much as possible but I’m on toddler duty for most of the day so we’ll see. I had really wanted to start going on walks again but I just don’t think I’ll be able to. It’s probably going to take me another 2 days just to recover from running errands.
@texas_t yes! And I forgot to wear it when I was running around 🤦♀️But it also doesn’t seem to help much with the SPD. It does help with my lower back pain and belly strain though! I just need to remember to wear it.
@gusgus14 I had it at the tail end of my first pregnancy and part way through my second, and yeah, the only thing that semi helped was being absolutely still. And it's super easy when you already have a kid 😬
@texas_t right?! I had it last time but not until probably halfway through 3rd tri but I didn’t have a kid to run after then so I could just lie on the couch no problem.
Alright so in this weeks episode of weird things happening to Chelsea: COVID rest negative (yay) and working through treating a sinus infection.
New strange thing happening... this past week I have been waking up in the middle of the night to really strong phantom smells? I do have a sleep REM disorder where I sometimes get “hypnagogic hallucinations” but they have always been 100% visual so I suppose this could be an olfactory hallucination because it can affect any of the senses, but this is definitely new. (To explain that more I’ve had sleep studies done and essentially I go through an absurd amount of sleep transitions each night.. 80+.. because I get too many “alpha intrusions” which are pain intrusions, I’ve just had a lot of hip surgeries. Everytime I get an alpha intrusion it knocks me into a different stage of sleep or too suddenly brings me from my deep sleep to waking, and that’s when I experience a visual hallucination because basically brain and body are not yet connected).
So anyway, it could be that but like I said those have always been visual. I’ve woken up and smelled burned plastic, popcorn, and rotten things. WHEN IVE LOST MY TASTE AND SMELL FROM THIS SINUS INFECTION lol 🤦🏼♀️😆.
I feel like a crazy hot mess at the moment but yes, let’s add phantom smells to the list of weird pregnancy things.
@gusgus14 and @texas_t I feel like my SPD is much worse when I sleep without a pillow between my legs the night before. Also, because I’m swelling, I looked up anti-inflammatory foods and have been eating a variety of them everyday. It seems to have helped with my SPD! Here is my food list:
@brynn_mamaof4 hopefully your sinus infection goes away quickly! My DH swears by the saline rinses, like netti pot. That is weird that you’d be smelling those things while sleeping. Maybe you are smelling real things? I smell the neighbor’s smells and we each have an acre yard. I can tell when they’re working on an engine, burning, and smoking weed or cigarettes. Though that sleep disorder you have is pretty crazy! I hope the pregnancy isn’t causing you too much pain.
@brynn_mamaof4 I think I have hypnogogic hallucinations based on what I’ve read about it, and Ive also occasionally woken up to the smell of smoke that disappeared like 5 seconds later! Maybe they’re associated 🤷🏻♀️
@yellingbanana thanks! I’ll have to add some of those foods to my diet! I’ve still mostly been living off carbs but I think the lingering nausea is gone as long as I don’t forget a zofran so this will be a good list for me to start adding in some other things. I already sleep with my snoogle between my legs! Otherwise I can’t make it through the night without hip pain. Pregnancy is fun 🤣
@yellingbanana that’s a great list of foods thanks for sharing!
22wks today and for the past few days I have felt eerily amazing? My energy level is super high, no aches or anything. Very weird feeling over here but certainly embracing it!
@yellingbanana the smells go away after I become more alert, and I always ask my fiancé and he is like .. what? Haha. It’s so weird!
@ckmb_1250 yes! They are actually pretty common. My visual ones always used to be spiders at first, now I will see all kinds of things at times. It scared me at first but now that I know what they are and why I’m just like 🤷🏼♀️
@brynn_mamaof4 ahh! I’m not 100% sure this is what I experience, but mine are like slipping really quickly into a dream, but I do it as I’m falling asleep and it wakes me up. And they are recurring, like I’ve been having the same ones since I was a kid 🤷🏻♀️ Luckily I’m not seeing things next to me/in my room, that sounds really scary!
@brynn_mamaof4 I have something like that but never scary like spiders, just exhausting because I think its rude to sleep when I have guests in my room. Then I realize that my door is locked and there is no way they could've gotten in so they are not real. Turning on the light helps. But sometimes I just sit there waiting for them to go away, or change clothes, because I don't like wearing pjs in public. I haven't had any recently, but i used to get them when I stayed up late and did repetitive things or was stressed. Once after a day at Disney I "stood in line" in my hotel room in front of the bathroom. Really weird, but never scary.
It is a super bizarre occurrence, for sure. If I haven’t had a sleep study done I would think I was being visited by dead people lol. I usually stare at it for no less than 10 seconds before it goes away! The smells are new, but I didn’t have any last night. I did read they can occur with sinus infections/migraine headaches which I did have a horrible headache this week (and I never get headaches). Kinda of like a non-pain related migraine aura 🤷🏼♀️.
I’ve done weird things in my sleep since I was a kid though. I was a TERRIBLE sleep walker and I would do weird things like turn on all the light in the house, take the phones off the hook, one time I emptied the fridge, etc lol. You can also have a full on conversation with me while I am sleeping, I’ll be super confident sounding in what I am saying but apparently it never makes any sense lol.
@brynn_mamaof4 Same here, weird sleep walker. Long weird conversations that make sense to me at the time and when I wake up I realize that they are completely illogical. Once I tore open a pillow thinking it was a bag of marshmallows.
