  • @princessjenney Congrats! The weight gain lecture really makes me annoyed. From what I've read, there's almost zero downside to gaining more than "recommended", but there is a downside to gaining less than recommended. My substitute OB gave me a lecture about gaining too much, telling me there's no point in putting on weight I'd have to lose later. I got pretty annoyed when I read up on twin pregnancy and saw that studies recommend gaining more earlier to help get them to a higher birth weight.

  • @princessjenney @mvt2003 weight lectures are super weird, and seem to be so provider dependent. I’ve actually gained quite a bit less than recommended so far (only about 6lbs) but my midwives haven’t said anything about it because my belly size is still on track and the few u/s I’ve had she’s been measuring just fine, if not ahead. I was similar my 1st pregnancy as well - I think I gained about 15lbs in the last 2 months to get up to a total gain of 25lbs. If you’re eating proper nutrients and baby/babies are growing well, who cares? And I can totally see the benefit to gaining more earlier in a twin pregnancy given there’s more baby to grow and you’ll also deliver earlier!
  • @finnflan I think part of the key is the gain at the end of a singleton pregnancy - I most likely won't have that time and twins actually do not put on as much weight at the end of a pregnancy as singletons do, which I was surprised by. I agree it's also very provider dependent, I think I've mentioned before I didn't love my substitute OB while my OB was on maternity leave, and she's the one who lectured me on there being "no point" in having to lose extra weight at the end of a pregnancy (we were discussing 7 lbs btw).

  • The OB I’ve been seeing the past couple months comments on my weight every time. I’m projected to gain about 40 pounds, which I get is higher than average but it’s not that far off the 25-35 pound recommendation. My blood pressure is low and I passed my gestational diabetes screen the first time, but my OB still insists I eat too many added sugars (I don’t, she’s never even asked me about my diet) and passive aggressively comments about gestational diabetes even though I don’t have it 😂 she’s horrible, I was so excited to have her resident instead of her at my appointment the other day.
  • I'm blessed that my OB hasn't said anything about my weight.
  • @jfcmomoftwo I feel you. The pre-pregnancy weight they have listed was my morning weight in my underwear and then at my appointments, they weigh me in full military uniform with boots, and lecture me about my weight. That's why I'm like whatEVER. And my diet also is actually pretty good. I'm not gonna "diet" during pregnancy. 🙄

  • Ugh! The weight gain concerns/comments I'm hearing about from providers is so frustrating. I've been so lucky with both my pregnancies my providers have literally never said anything- they look at my blood work and say that my weight isn't a problem.
  • Ugh! I was super annoyed at my very first appointment to confirm the pregnancy when the doctor basically implied my weight would be an issue and that I needed to meet with a nutritionist. I explained that I knew my weight was higher than ideal but in my first pregnancy I actually ended up losing weight from a combo of eating better due to being pregnant and also horrible morning sickness. She backed off a little and agreed to monitor it and revisit the topic. I’ve only seen her one other time this pregnancy and she didn’t bring it up (again I’ve maintained/lost weight), but she instead flipped to basically imply I will have BP issues. I’m trying to avoid seeing her the remainder of the visits. Everyone else has been more concerned with how I’m actually feeling, baby being on track, etc. It is so provider dependent and can vary so much within the same practices depending on who you see.
  • I’m thankful my OB hasn’t said anything about my weight! I’ve gained 36lbs and I must be more worried than he is. I agree with that if the bloodwork is good leave the moms to be alone about their weight. We have enough stress. 🤣
  • @xvividash I'm sitting right at right around the same amount gained. My blood pressure is great and both my GD tests have been normal. This happened in my last pregnancy too so I think this is just my "normal" (even though I've stayed WAY more active this time around). My body just wants to hold on to everything, my husband tells me the weight is all in my boobs and belly 😂🤣
