March 2021 Moms

Timing of jump to facebook

Hey ladies,

I thought I’d put this on our radar as we head into the new year! There aren’t a ton of active members on this board, but there are enough that I think it would be worth transitioning to a private forum as we get closer. For my July 2019 group, we made the move about 6 weeks before the start of July. This worked well to give us all some time to adjust before the first babies started coming in mid-June (I know we have a couple of twin moms here that will be delivering before March!). If we do similar timing to that, we could be looking to start the move around mid-January. What’re people’s thoughts on that timing? We can work out the logistics of how best to do it after (by way of example of how we did it, we had 3 ‘mods’ set up the fb group. If you wanted in, you posted here and if 2 of the 3 agreed you were a poster known to them, you’d get a request to send one of the mods a photo of you holding an object and a paper with the date and your username to show you’re real. Then you’d get the invite to move over via PM. We left the request period open for a few weeks to give people time, because life happens and even great posters aren’t on every day/week).

Re: Timing of jump to facebook

  • I think I feel pretty safe about moving over to fb in January.  This hasn't been the most active group so I see mostly the same names posting regularly.

  • I will miss everyone. I deleted facebook earlier this year and will not be returning.

  • @kloe818 one thing a few non-facebookers did was create a new dummy account just for this group so they could still join but not have to deal with former FB life. Something to consider if you’re willing, as it really can be a great resource and you’d be missed!
  • one thing that my previous BMB did (granted we were larger) was first move to a private group on TB. This allowed people to feel more comfortable sharing some stuff while still being on TB. This way we got to know each other even more before going to FB.  And then around the time babies were born (i think most were born by that time, mine definitely was) we finally moved to FB.  I'm ok with whatever the general group decides but I just wanted to bring that up as another option so we could still keep those of us who are not on FB at least until the babies come (and maybe persuade them to join us after!) and also because since we're not as active, I feel like we still have a lot of "getting to know each other" to do.

I agree that we are in general pretty small, I feel like probably anyone on the excel spreadsheet we have is probably ok to join whatever smaller group we decide to make

  • I'm so happy that you ladies want to move to FB! I don't know about you all, but I am much more active on there. I'm totally down to switch whenever.
  • @xvividash Same. I'm on fb much more often than I think to log into TB. I assume that the fb group would be much more active than we are on TB.

  • @finnflan I don't think I can do that either. It really is a personal thing. I was losing hours and hours of my life in there and I need to be away from it so I can focus on other things in life. I do have Instagram and I'm willing to be email friends with anyone who wants to keep in touch. I just cannot get sucked back into the void that FB becomes for me.
  • I deleted my "real" FB account years ago, but I have one that I use to manage a work page. I tried adding my info to the spreadsheet, but I can't edit it on my phone apparently. IDK why but the bump app is constantly signing me out lately and it is really annoying.
  • @duhduhduck that keeps happening to me too! It keeps telling me I need to sign out and back in and it’s driving me nuts

  • As long as we're all in agreement that we'll have a vetting system, I'm down for whatever the group wants. I've been on TB so long that I've seen so many random people pop up when it's time to move private that no one has ever seen/heard of before. Thankfully we're a pretty small group so it should be easier to ID who's a regular.

  • I would prefer fb too as it’s easier and I’m on it more than here! I think any of the suggestions for making the move would be good, since we all know who posts on here anyway

  • If @manillabar and @redselig are up for it, I’d nominate them to be 2 of the admin to vet and get a Facebook group going in the next week or two, given how active both of them have been on the board (props for pretty much always starting the weekly threads ladies!!). @kloe818 would be someone else I’d nominate for this role if you wanted to be involved, for the same reason, but I totally respect your personal reasons for not being comfortable with FB and don’t want to put you in an uncomfortable situation.

(I’m happy to help out if/as needed as well, not looking to just try and push the work elsewhere haha. But I’m admittedly not as active as those ladies).
  • @finnflan agree!

  • Hey ladies, I’d be happy to help out in any way. I only have a Facebook account because of groups and marketplace. I’ve never been a mod or admin person before but I think I can figure it out. 😅

  • I'm happy to help in any way as well! I spend way too much time on Facebook but haven't really admin'ed any groups either, though happy to learn. Should we have a third? You know, as a tiebreaker? lol
