  • sorry I fell off the face of the earth for part of last week. My aunt died. It isn't COVID related, but it is seriously the 4th family loss we've had since the pandemic started and not being able to gather is really getting tiring. They are having a funeral service but everyone agrees that I'm better off staying home. I agree as well, but it still feels isolating watching yet another livestream of a funeral service.

    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 26w6d

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: pink

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Tomorrow it will be either lettuce or a big bottle of sriracha

Upcoming appointments: 12/16 for 28w visit and glucose tolerance test

    How are you feeling?: Tired.

Rants/Raves:  We started decorating the house, which is helping with the current blues. This is teh first year that my daughter has been really excited about it so that has been fun. Hoping to bake some cookies this week too. It will be my first time trying applesauce as an egg substitute (she's allergic to egg) so hopefully they turn out ok!

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? hmm... snackwise, peppermint bark for sure. Actual food-wise, I am definitely craving a nice ham.

    Questions: N/A

Rants/Raves: My rant is that our nursery dresser was ordered months ago, and has been delayed already a full month. We're hoping it actually comes next week! I'm kind of just in a holding pattern on setting up their room, and I'm feeling very behind haha!

My rave is that we made it onto the waiting list for an early shed delivery, hoping it can happen as quickly as possible!!

    Questions: Nope

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? I'm all about the holiday chocolate treats - Lindt truffles are a favorite. I would say for our holiday meals, my favorite would be my roasted potatoes for Christmas dinner.

@manillabar I'm so sorry, losing family members is awful but I feel like it's extra awful in 2020 when we can't gather. I'm glad you have the option to livestream a memorial, I do think getting that experience is important.

  • Sorry for being a bit MIA recently!! I was promoted to a new position at work so it’s been a bit hectic.

    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: March 9, 26+6

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Team Green!!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: kale

Upcoming appointments: had my OB appointment this morning and have my gestational diabetes test this afternoon!!

How are you feeling?: overall pretty good!! Having some SPD pain but it’s manageable.

Rants/Raves: rant- the OB I’ve been seeing really sucks. She told me baby is measuring three weeks ahead today, barely explained what the lag could mean, and then passive aggressively told me “good luck” on my gestational diabetes test. I’m oooooover her.

Rave- I started a management position at work which is awesome!! I’m a social worker, so the promotion has allowed me to cut back on my frontline work significantly. I’m also able to work from home so overall I’m just feeling a lot more safe and secure in this pregnancy now. It also means I can push my maternity leave as late as possible which is great.

Questions: anyone have a baby that was measuring ahead?? The doctor didn’t seem too concerned and said we will just watch it, but obviously I’m stressing a bit.

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? Hmmm, it’s a drink but probably glühwein. My husband and I both lived in Germany and ended up getting engaged there during Christmas time. Every Christmas I get so nostalgic for European Christmas markets and warm glühwein. Sad I can’t have it this year!!
  • @manillabar I'm so sorry for your loss!!
@jfcmomoftwo Congrats on your promotion! Can you find a new OB? This one sounds terrible.

  • @juliebeannn thank you so much!! It has been such a relief. As for the OB, I usually just get randomly assigned to whatever doctor is doing appointments that day. I could ask to have it put in my file that I wish to no longer be seen by her and be seen by another doctor instead!! I’m probably going to do that. It was my second time seeing her and both times I had issues.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: lettuce... I'm guessing romaine?

Upcoming appointments: next week for 28 week plus a growth scan cuz baby was small at the last appointment.

How are you feeling?: Like a balloon? Entire abdomen is inflated. I wasn't expecting that. I was expecting my feet to still be soft. Sciatica and heartburn as usual.

Rants/Raves: Hubby's side is really starting to get adamant that everyone get together for the holiday. They understand why we are being cautious but feel we are taking it overboard. They see each other either weekly or daily. I have seen my parents 4 times this year and my sister and nieces twice this year. They are not being fair at all. I'm really angry about how selfish they're being. I won't see my mom and sister again until my baby shower. This crap sucks.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? My mother, grandmother and is girls used to make chocolates for the holidays and I miss those. The orange were my favorite.
  • @manillabar so sorry for your loss.
  • @juliebeannn So glad you're feeling better and have my fingers crossed it continues for you!!

@manillabar I'm so sorry for your losses and sorry that they have been especially difficult because of COVID.
  • @juliebeannn - happy birthday!!

@manillabar - I’m so sorry to hear about your aunt and your other losses, that’s hard to deal with even in the best of times.

@jf@jfcmomoftwo - congrats on the promotion, it sounds like a great move!! Both my first pregnancy and this one my estimated due date has been pushed up a week plus based on the fetus’ size at the early u/s (even though both times I can nail down pretty exactly when they were conceived). We just make big kids. They will just watch it - these kiddos have such big growth spurts from time to time that what they’re measuring at one visit doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll continue on that path. Worst case is they’ll decide to induce you a bit early or you may need a csection (not meaning to minimize either as I know that may not be what you’re hoping to have happen)
  • @finnflan thanks so much for this, I really appreciate it!! My husband is 6’3” and all of my family are in the 6 foot range so it wouldn’t be unheard of for us to have a tall/big baby. I would LOVE to be induced early, I’m honestly hoping for a February baby.
  • @jfcmomoftwo my hubby is 6'4" and his sisters are 5'7" and 5'9". I was expecting a big baby but they tell me she's small, 35th percentile. Talking to our moms and it turns out we were both small babies. Who knows with these kiddos? If the doctors aren't worried, I'm not.
  • @jfcmomoftwo - I’m 5’11” and DH is 6’4”. DD1 has always been high 90th percentile for height and weight. That said, I went to 40+2 with her and she was 22”, 8lb2oz at birth so bigger but not induction worthy (for my body type anyway).
  • thanks everyone <3

wow some of you are tall/have some tall husbands lol! We are definitely not tall over here.  My daughter was on the smaller side (6lbs2oz), but I'm thinking this one will be bigger, especially since we don't have the same issues we had with my daughter, and also she seems to be bigger on the scans so far.

  • I'm in the tall husband club too, mine is 6'5 and has a big ole head so I'm secretly glad I'm doing a repeat c-section.

I'm 5'2 with a short torso so my older daughter never had room to turn and was lodged under my ribs. For what it's worth she was measuring ahead too and they were estimating her to be a 10+lb baby but she came out 7lb 10oz. Which is perfectly normal.

Upcoming appointments: not until after the New Year.

How are you feeling?: good but I think I may be developing an umbilical hernia... it's protruding a lot more with this baby than with DD. I'm gonna bring it up at my next appointment.

Rants/Raves: I think I have most of my Christmas shopping done. We are being super frugal this year because we are having to buy so much baby stuff... my Husband says our loved ones will understand. 😕

    Questions: ---

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? I have been totally craving gingerbread lately... but tamales are a south Texas Christmas tradition and my absolute FAVORITE.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a pork pie hat haha

Upcoming appointments: had my midwife appointment today, next one is Jan. 12th

How are you feeling?: good. Have some heartburn/reflux but more just noticeable than anything

Rants/Raves: rave - I have almost all of my Christmas shopping done, which never happens! Rave - I have zero clue what to get for the ones I have left. Any suggestions for a gift for our nanny??

Questions: my midwife freaked me out today by telling me the average discharge time assuming normal delivery with no complications is 3 hours (this seems to be more midwife related than covid related, as the midwives will come to your house for a 24 hour checkup). I stayed in hospital 24 hours last time. Have any STMs been discharged so soon after birth before and how did you find it?

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? I could eat mashed potatoes for days. The more butter the better.
  • Wow so many tall folks here!! 5'3" here and DH is 5'10", so we're very average in this house lol.

@finnflan What on earth is a pork pie hat? haha.  Also, 3 hours after birth sounds SUPER early! Granted, my first was a c-section, so I was in the hospital for DAYS after.  I think I'd want to be monitored at the hospital for at least 24 hours.

  • Tall husband over here with an enormous head too! I must say, when my nephew was born I looked at the size of his head and immediately thought to myself "oh no" :D:D:D:D I myself am also tall and come from a very tall family (I'm 5'7" and the shortest of my female cousins) so these girls will eventually be tall!

I'm not anticipating terribly large babies since we're having twins, but I'm hopeful they'll be decently sized! Both MH and I were 8 pound babies,

  • Haha, funny that so many of us have tall husbands!! Found out today that I passed my gestational diabetes test, so I’m looking forward to seeing that doctor next month to rub it in a bit 😂

@finnflan I’m in Canada and it’s typical to be discharged within three hours if you deliver in hospital with a midwife, as long as there have been no complications of course. Your midwife follows up with you from home so your care is just continued there. I considered going with a midwife this time around for that very reason- I’d much rather go home early to recover!!
  • @jfcmomoftwo ya that’s where I am too (Ontario), I’m just having such a hard time wrapping my head around it haha. I was still a mess at the 3 hour mark last time I think. Although being able to dish out my next dose of Tylenol/ibuprofen hit mix at the exact next minute I can rather than chasing down a nurse is definitely appealing 😅

How are you feeling?: pretty good, but I'm now uncomfortable sitting down for longish periods. It feels like this kid is getting shoved into my ribs.

Rants/Raves: we split our staff at work, so I have one person I work with in the office part time and I work from home the other days. The person I work with is high risk for covid, but she also does the riskiest things. If she brings covid to the office, I'm going to be pissed.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite holiday food? My mom's buckeyes and my MIL's sugar cookies are favorites.
  • well, it’s covid 😫😭😫 I can’t believe it. I’m so annoyed at myself for not quitting when covid got bad, but I wanted to prove I could still work. And now here I am with covid. OB says nothing really to do but take Tylenol and monitor pulse ox (luckily I still have one from nursing school). And obvi go to prego triage or ER if worsening. Sigh. I think I’m gonna quit during my sick leave. I’m done.

  • Thanks ladies 💗 yesterday evening was the worst (I hope!) when the muscle aches were bad and I felt chills but no fever. Today my throat is still sore and cough has worsened but actually I feel better as far as those flu-like aches. The cough feels like a reaction to my throat, not my lungs, so that’s good. Baby girl is still moving around a lot too! I hope I continue to improve and in a few days I’ll be better. Oh and DH tested negative yesterday so I’m hoping he and DS stay healthy. I’ve been banished to our bedroom and DH is using guest room. He’s going to his moms shore house with DS today for a night to try and keep them as little exposed as possible.

  • @treebagel I'm so sorry and hope you feel better soon. My sister is a nurse with a 2 and 4 year old and she quit back in September. She was doing 12 hour shifts on the covid floor. It was just too much. I feel for everyone working in the healthcare system. I can't imagine the frustration of people denying the severity of thd virus or that it exists at all.
  • thanks again everyone. I’m feeling so miserable. Lost ALL taste and smell today which seems silly but it’s very depressing. The congestion and coughing is horrible. DH and DS are staying at the shore the entire week now since they have been symptom free and we’d like to keep it that way. Im hoping somehow they didn’t get it from me. I’m lonely, but getting by... sigh.

  • @princessjenney very limited on what I can take, but honestly I’m taking just about everything I can, though I would obvi rather not take any meds at all. Tylenol 650mg 4hr, delsym AM and PM, mucinex AM and PM, Flonase AM and PM. Drinking as much water as I can. Trying to eat meals but the no taste/smell thing makes that hard. Every time I think oooh that sounds yummy I get depressed bc it literally tastes like air. Such a weird sensation. Napping a lot. I’m lucky DH took DS so that I can actually rest but I’m feeling bad for him not getting any rest. Not much else self care happening but again I feel lucky I can just focus on myself thanks to DH.
