  • @asf0613 I've never done carrier screening because it wouldn't change anything for me.  however, if you are a carrier and your husband does not have the disease, meaning he either is a carrier or not. This meaning there is a 50% chance baby will be a carrier and 25% chance of not having it at all.  So 75% chance everything will be ok in a worse case scenario.  I hope it doesn't take as long for his results to come back.  I don't have personal experience, but I hope this info is comforting for you.

  • thank you for this @mkc3888
it wont change anything for us either, expect that we might plan differently, which is the reason why we opted to get it done.  i just like to know things ahead of time.  that being said, i am definitely trying to be optimistic that he won't be a carrier and all will be right with the world lol.
  • @asf0613 someone on my A19 board found out she and her husband were both carriers for SMA. It was her third baby, but first time doing genetic screening (first time she was AMA). All three of her children are perfectly healthy. I know it's just anecdotal, but thought I'd share.
  • @mrosek91 anecdotal is helpful for me right now, thank you for sharing!
