IF Testing &Treatment w/o 10/26

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (if you've been):

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):

How are things going?:

Any questions?:

    Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO forever

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): trying naturally

How are things going?:  I had EWCM last week which I took as a hopeful sign that I might finally be if the verge of be Oing but OPKs have stayed stubbornly negative and temps are staying low so it looks like I'm still at square 1. I'm definitely planning on calling my doctor this week (hopefully today). So incredibly frustrated with my body.

Any questions?: I'm planning to update my doctor on my 2 cycles since stopping BC and asking what the next steps should be. Is there anything else I should be asking about? Maybe a referral to an RE? Possibly moving into medicated cycles is completely new territory for me

GTKY: If you could only have one Halloween candy for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
Reese's. I could eat those forever. DH brought home a bag of Reese's Take 5 bars and they're pretty much the best thing ever.

Diagnosis (if you've been): just started the IF workup this cycle

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW

How are things going?: still waiting on the above result and getting annoyed dr office hasn’t called and it’s not on my patient portal

Any questions?: none at the moment.

GTKY: If you could only have one Halloween candy for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

@gingermama29 I would definitely ask about doing medicated cycles to help you ovulate. It would be best that they monitor you to make sure the medication is working and making you ovulate vs just taking it and assuming it works. You may want to look into getting a referral just in case you start venturing into a territory your doctor is not familiar with.

@misshelen86 the pain for me during the ERA lasted.... idk 5 seconds? Essentially however long it took for her to slice my lining. It feels like some of the worst cramping you've ever had in your life, but it is short lived. The nurse in the room with me offered her hand but I decided I would just distract myself by reading the pamphlet they handed me on the Receptiva test they were also doing on my lining. I probably should have opted for her hand for something to squeeze and focus on since trying to read words did not distract me at all.

I've heard it can be helpful (for those with migraines) to pinch the webbing between your thumb and forefinger to distract yourself. I'm sure it could help with the pain during the ERA. GL you got this!

@And846 I hope you hear from your doctor soon!

    @inthewoods23 thank you friend 💕

@misshelen86 hugs friend. I think you have a good plan going forward and are giving yourself the best chance for success. Sending you all the positive vibes.

AFM, I just called the nurse's line to my OB's office and talked her through what has been going on so far. I asked next steps and she said the OB wants to see me for a follow up appointment which will be in 2 weeks. So I'm kind of in limbo with my cycle (though with my luck, I'll O right before it 🙄). But I'm glad I've gotten the ball rolling on things. I'll continue to research REs in my area so that I'm prepared for that step.

@gingermama29 I’m glad you were able to talk to the nurse and get an appointment with your OB. Sorry that it’s still 2 weeks away...hopefully you do O in the meantime, and then you can talk about a plan for the next cycle (if there is one!)

@And846 sorry you’re waiting on results, that’s always so frustrating. Have you tried calling to pester them about it yet? When I had my 7dpo progesterone draw last week, they didn’t call me with results because it was normal. When I called to ask they gave me the exact number.

@misshelen86 it sounds like you and your doctor have a great plan. Hopefully this means everything will work perfectly when it’s the real deal!

    Diagnosis (if you've been): unexplained

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI was 10 days ago, this TWW has been feeling like forever!

How are things going?: The answer to this changes honestly every 30 minutes I feel like haha. At the moment I’m okay, but some of my hopefulness has gone out the window. I’m trying to remind myself to stay positive through the next few days until I can test. Also, we were at my IL’s yesterday afternoon, and in front of everyone my FIL made a completely insensitive comment about grandkids. He didn’t do it on purpose, knows what we are going through, and felt bad that he upset me. But that doesn’t change that it happened and I’m upset about it. I also recognize that I’m likely being extra sensitive at the moment, and that the comment may not have bothered me at a different point in my cycle. The rollercoaster is SO REAL people.

Any questions?: for those who have done a trigger shot, how long did it take to get out of your system? At 11 days after I triggered (even though it’s too early), it should probably be out of my system...right?

GTKY: If you could only have one Halloween candy for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Twix. Hands down my favorite candy ever.

@gingermama29 did you find any promising RE's in your area? I know when I mentioned a medicated cycle to my OB last week at my pap she said that they don't have the type of ultrasounds to do the monitoring with a medicated cycle so an RE was really the best bet. Their consultations usually book out a bit so contacting a few to see when you could schedule a consult might be a good idea now even with your appointment with your OB scheduled.
@And846 good luck with your testing. Hope you get some more information to move forward!
@misshelen86 I'm glad you have a plan to move forward that your are comfortable with. It sounds like you are handling everything really well.
@runningoncookies thinking of you! Everything crossed that this is your cycle! I haven't had a trigger shot but when I asked my RE about it he said it can show up on a HPT 7-10 days after and they don't recommend testing until 14 days after.

Diagnosis (if you've been): unexplained; secondary IF

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): last cycle trying naturally and getting all our ducks in a row for medicated cycle. The nurse at the RE's office called today saying all my blood work came back normal but that they ran the wrong tests for MH so if they don't have a sample left he will have to have his redone. I still need to complete a couple education things from their office.

How are things going?: so based on a normal 28 day cycle I would have FW while MH was going to go hunting next month, right before Thanksgiving. But I have been O-ing on CD 12 and having 25 day cycles so FW would have been just before he left. Of course the one month I want to O early to potentially not mess with his trip for our medicated cycle, I don't O until CD 15. FX that means I maybe had a good egg and all of this will be for naught. But he did already say he would cancel if need be, I just don't want him to have to do that.

Any questions?: not at this time

GTKY: If you could only have one Halloween candy for the rest of your life, which would you choose? This is too hard. Kit Kat probably but also Skittles. I'm a pretty equal opportunity candy consumer EXCEPT for Whoppers. They are trash.

@runningoncookies So sorry about your FIL’s insensitive comment. Even if he didn’t mean it, it still hurts just the same. Are you planning on testing before your beta? FX for you!

@krash_ Hope this last cycle is the one for you.. I’ll be keeping my FX! If not, sounds like you have a great plan moving forward with a medicated cycle. I hope that the timing works out so your H doesn’t have to miss his trip!

@krash_ thanks! Yeah, that’s why I want to wait as long as I can to test...my RE had told me to test at 14dpiui so I’m trying so hard to hold out! FX that your cycle timing works out and that this ends up being it for you!

@misshelen86 my RE didn’t schedule a beta for me, he just told me to take a test this Friday and call them to schedule bloodwork if it was positive. I’m nervous that if that’s the case they won’t be able to fit me in until Monday, so I’m contemplating testing Thursday...not sure what I’ll officially decide! I feel like it just all comes down to sheer willpower.

Late posting this week! It's been a busy one.

@gingermama29 I'm so frustrated for you re: your ultra-long cycle. I'm 💯 in agreement with the others re: RE (see what I did theRE?) They are, among other things, PCOS specialists and they have the time to dig into these issues unlike your run-of-the-mill OB.

@And846 I'm sorry you find yourself in the IF land. When I came over to this thread, someone said it is the "most supportive corner of the bump" and I have to say that person (can't remember who it was now) was 💯 correct. Good luck with your initial testing.

@misshelen86 I will follow your ERA adventures as, if we end up in IVF land, it'll be something I'll want to do. Are you also doing the Receptiva test? Also, sounds like taking the time to work on your mental / emotional / physical health pre-transfer is a good idea; that way, your embaby will have a welcoming environment into which to stick to!

@runningoncookies saw your update in the Dailies today. 😭I'm sorry you're headed into IUI # 2. I'm also sorry about your FIL's comments. Do you and YH have siblings? Do your PILs have grandkids already? Either way, sorry that you had to suffer through that.

@krash_ I hope your later O this cycle is a good omen. It's also nice that YH is willing to skip his trip for your common good. Hopefully that won't be necessary (for more reason than 1), but it's nice that he's a team player.  I don't know if this is true for you, but I tend to bear most of the load of our IF journey and I'm always pleasantly surprised when MH says he'll do something / be somewhere when I've mentally prepared myself for going it alone.

@shoogapoff Yay for starting your FET cycle! So excited for you. Hopefully the 13th will bring you sticky luck! FX.

@chichiphin you're an awesome lurker! Such wealth of info!

Diagnosis (if you've been): AMA, MFI

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Letrazole + IUI including advance sperm freeze to make sure sufficient swimmers on day of IUI. I also asked the urologist to order additional blood testing for MH as recommended by The Egg Whisperer, so that his infertility workup is super thorough (Vit D, pre-diabetes, Cholesterol, y-chromosome microdeletion, and chromosome analysis). Finally, MH did the sperm DNA fragmentation test on Friday, and those results will be in early next week (if we didn't screw up the test! 2 pages of instructions!)

How are things going?: Going pretty well actually. My anti-anxiety meds are starting to work, and I'm starting to feel calmer / more grounded. I'm feeling good about the current "Hail Mary" cycle. I think I will be ready for IVF knowing that we've thrown everything at this final IUI attempt. Someone in my other fertility forum (Modern Fertility) offered up that some clinics do research and offer freebies to their patients, so I ended up reaching out to Main Line Fertility in PA and they're currently recruiting for research looking at at effectiveness of either crinone vs PIO in FET cycles. The benefit to the patient is a free transfer and free genetic testing, which is approx $6K in value. I discussed with MH and we're actually quite interested in this. So, if this cycle isn't it, I might end up doing ER before Christmas to enable participation in this study. I also spent a large chunk of my day on ClinicalTrials.gov looking at other infertility studies. I'm not sure if there are other clinics that offer benefits to their clients, but hey... it's worth a shot!

But... having some challenges with the new clinic already; I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet, but I've been asking one of the CNAs questions via phone / in person, and she's not getting back to me with answers. She also doesn't take note of my questions, so I have a very distinct feeling that it's "in one ear, out the other" type of situation. For example, one of the questions is whether or not I should take progesterone after O, and how much to take. This is something that was prescribed both by my OB and previous RE and not mentioned at all at this clinic. I'm not giving up yet, but this is a red flag.

    Any questions?: None!

GTKY: If you could only have one Halloween candy for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Nerds or Rockets.

ETA to add my treat choices.
Edited to fix "Mail Mary" 🤦🏼‍♀️

I lied! I do have a question: has anyone here had experience with low testosterone? I've been tested twice now, and each time it's come back very low (7 ng/DL and now 5 ng/DL). I've been reading that low testosterone affects ovulation. It apparently can also impact IVF outcomes so I'd be really interested in learning more about this. Any thoughts / info would be super useful! Lurkers are welcome.

@runningoncookies sorry about the insensitive comment from your FIL. The intent behind the comment doesn't change the fact that it was hurtful.

@krash_ it looks like I'll have to travel an hour to a RE but it appears from their website that they take my insurance which should cover everything in full so that's a big plus. I'll likely give a call tomorrow. FX YH won't have to cancel.

@shoogapoff hopefully that numbers are your lucky ones!

@acleverusername I appreciate your insight (and enjoyed your clever play on words with RE 😊). I'm definitely looking into an RE. So glad your anxiety meds are starting to work for you. Glad you have a good plan in place, though hopefully you won't need it, particularly if you're seeing possible red flags.

@acleverusername yay for the calmer week and looking at clinics w/ research.

I ended up calling the Dr office when I didn't see it load and they said that the results came back normal.

It's been a doozy of a week and I have hardly had time to get on here as much as I would like. I'm on CD 1 and they want me to do blood work again on CD 3 but I think the lab is closed Sunday so I'm going to go on Monday...going to call and make sure that is okay.

@acleverusername Im glad you’re starting to feel good about this cycle! Sorry for the issues with the new clinic. Can you be pushy to talk to someone else when you call? So my FILs comment came from the following scenario: (TW: PG and loss mentioned)
My BIL and his wife are pregnant and due over the winter. My FIL was talking about various things about the “first grandchild”. Had my first (or second) CP stuck around, I would’ve been due in November or December. It sounds like I’m upset because I’m not “first” but I’m really not! Like the comments wouldn’t have upset me if I were KU but he knows everything we are going through, and so it was just really hard. I’m always a little more emotionally charged when I’m around my KU SIL anyway because obviously I’m not there and wish I was.

Emotionally, I’m feeling much better than I was yesterday! I let myself wallow for a full day about the BFN and failed IUI, but now I’m ready to move on to the next cycle. Hopefully AF comes in a timely manner, so I’ll be able to get in for my baseline monitoring early next week!

@gingermama29 happy to hear you've sourced a good RE: hopefully both s/he and the clinic take good care of you. I've learned that the clinic plays SUCH an important role in the whole experience. And also glad that you have that benefit covered. I'm a bit envious.
@chichiphin you're an excellent lurker! Please keep on lurking.
@And846 glad to hear that your Day 21 results were normal. One diagnostic test down; hundred more to go! 🤣I'm kidding... mostly. Hopefully your Day 3 tests come back normal. Did you find out if going on Day 4 is okay? I've heard that any time Day 2-5 is fine, but earlier is better.
@runningoncookies I'm happy to hear that you've had a chance to mourn the BFN and are ready for IUI #2. It took me a lot longer to get there after our first IUI.
@keikilove it sounds like you're already seeing benefits to the LIT treatment! When is your next session? If I understood correctly, you've found out that you can do that treatment at the same clinic where you're doing the IVF? Also, what does DuoStim IVF entail?

A bunch of updates from me:

    New clinic updates
The assistant got back to me, and answered some (but not all) of the questions we'd discussed. But she did get back to me re: progesterone to say that Dr. wants to evaluate whether or not I supplement at my monitoring appoint next week. So I'll wait and see. I've also decided to just ask my questions in person when I'm there for monitoring.

    Saga with MHs SAs continues
Every time MH has an SA, we get different results. Yesterday we dropped off a sample for freezing, and they analyzed it and his TMC was 79M!!!! A serious WTF. We did abstain for 4 full days, so that might have something to do with it. But both the concentration and motility was in the WHO normal range, and that hasn't been the case in the previous 3 analysis! So... maybe the supplements are working? BUT, the morphology was 2% which is bizarre; when he did SA in June (the "original" one that we based our treatment plan on), it was 35%. I... give up.

    Testosterone
@keikilove so I had started taking DHEA back in August after doing the IUI orientation at the original clinic; then in September, I reviewed my list of supplements with the old RE and she said I don't need to take it because I don't have DOR (my AMH is 2.36). I'm going to bring this with the new RE. I did look up what Rebecca Fett says about it, and it sounds like I could still benefit from it (my DHEA-S is below 100) especially if IVF is in our future. In the meanwhile, I actually bit the bullet and applied for the Second Opinion program from Center for Human Reproduction (Dr. Norman Gleicher). I've been thinking about it for several months now, since he seems to be the expert in changing PCOS phenotypes, and low testosterone, etc. so I figured it would be good to have his insight. He basically will review all of our docs and provide a report on what he thinks our diagnosis is and what the best treatment is. It'll take 2 weeks to get it. I think this was the right thing to do.

@runningoncookies So sorry for the BFN. I would also be very upset by those comments.. sorry he was so insensitive. Sending hugs!

@acleverusername That’s great your H’s count was so good this time. My DH’s urologist said it’s very common to have big fluctuations in an SA. Sounds like a great idea to do the second opinion.. it will be interesting to see what the Dr says. 2 weeks isn’t very long at all! Hopefully you get some answers/insight.

@keikilove I’m glad you decided to share and I’m so very sorry for your loss friend  <3 I teared up reading your update. It’s just so unfair, you’ve already been through so much. I am so hopeful for you that this is a sign the LIT may have made a difference.. will you be doing more LIT with your next IVF? Glad you are also looking into surrogacy as another option but I’m so hopeful for this IVF with all the changes this time around! I’m sending you hugs and all the positive, healing vibes  <3<3

@acleverusername Yes, you remembered correctly. I will get at least 2 more LIT treatments: one more before PG and one after BFP. I have to coordinate it with next time I travel for the IVF appointment, which I’m waiting for CD1 to schedule. This has turned into another unbearably long cycle, not sure if it’s the estrogen priming affecting things... DuoStim is one normal egg retrieval followed by just 5-10 days off before starting stims again. Then a second egg retrieval. This allows for two egg collections in about one month. Our hope is to get enough embryos to test & freeze, then do a FET as soon as results are back (& when LIT/LAD test shows improvement in the number of the specific cells that affect embryo acceptance by immune system).// Glad to hear that YH’s numbers went way up! But sorry for the confusing morphology rate. All I can think is maybe the morph is tied to DNA fragmentation? I’m not an expert there so no idea, really. Just a thought. So glad
to hear you’re getting the second opinion. It sounds like it is the right way to go to put your mind at ease. Two weeks isn’t too long to wait for expert advice!😊

@misshelen86 Thank you so much for your sweet words.💗 It means a lot. I definitely feel like I’m on a see-saw of positive thoughts and then feeling very doubtful that anything can fix this issue. I’m working on it, trying to replace all the negative with positive thoughts! I appreciate your support.💕

@keikilove ah! I guess I've known about DuoStim before, but I've only ever heard it referred to as "back to back" ER cycles. I've also known (from others who've done this) it to be successful in growing more follicles on subsequent cycles. So, I really hope it works to give you more genetically normal embryos!

We're just waiting for MH's sperm DNA fragmentation test (results should be in early this week) so hopefully that'll give us more insight.
