Re: Product Spotlight: Baby Monitors

  • We are just going to have to get a new one so this is great!! We have use the basic Vtech audio only and it has worked great for us. It was a hand me down and has been used with two other kids, one is 7 so it has gone the distance. We have 1/3 of an acre and can do all the yard work with the range in it, the battery has been great for 7 years and is just now starting to go. I love the lights for sound because I could do loud things like snow blow and at a glance be able to tell if he was getting loud.

We may just go with the same one and may look into video. Anyone have opinions who have used just audio and the video monitors?

  • We just used one of these for the boys’ room because we bought them for home security and MH set it up as a closed network because the stories of parents having strangers talk on their baby monitors over WiFi freaked me out. https://www.amazon.com/YI-Security-Surveillance-Monitor-Android/dp/B01CW4AR9K

With my oldest we used an old iPhone and the baby monitor app called Cloud Baby Monitor on a closer and locked WiFi network.
  • We have this one. Will get a second camera for baby #2. It’s a closed system so there’s no concern of creepers hacking into it. Has great range everywhere in our house (two floors, 2800 sq ft).

We had the Levana Willow which we loved, but they stopped making all Levana products  :'( Ours was dying, so we got the Vava off of Amazon. It’s a closed system so you don’t have to worry about people hacking in. I don’t like that the sound is always on and the monitor screen is not motion activated like the Levana, but the big screen, super clear picture, and the pan/tilt/zoom option on the Vava camera makes those negatives tolerable. They just came out with a split screen function for those with multiple kids (which I’m jealous of bc my one I got in August only has the scan through multiple cameras for 15 seconds function). You can get 20% off with the code “newbaby20”

Here’s the single camera version on Amazon:

Edit to add: you cannot access/watch the camera through your phone bc it does not require wifi, but the range of the monitor is super far- we’ve been in our backyard at night and had no issues with distance and seeing the cameras clearly.
  • We have the same monitor as @hannahbananas11. The original plan was to buy another camera for it for this kiddo. The color camera is good but the night vision is a little blurry and the camera is in night vision 99% of the time. We haven’t really had any problems with it. Although I think we bought a new battery sometime in the last 2.5 years.

But recently I’ve realized that we might want to switch to cameras that will work with our home security system so we can use them after we are done using them as baby monitors. We haven’t decided.
  • We originally had a Motorola video and audio monitor and hated it! It wasn’t cheap either. We ended up returning it and buying a nest cam and that is what we use and love it! We bought another one for baby 2’s room. I love that I can go outside and not worry about losing the signal.
