Re: Weekly Check-in *** Week of 10/12
GTKY: (suggested by lavenderclouds!) Do you have any creative hobbies or have you in the past? Photography/writing/playing an instrument/etc? I do almost any crafty thing. Quilting, needlepoint, crochet, knitting. In the fall/winter (not this year because of COVID
@hp242 That's amazing that you're so crafty. Sad that you can't participate in the fair this year. Are you on Etsy?
I used to play the piano. I haven't played in years though. I don't have much time for creative hobbies.

10/20 & 3D US this Saturday!!!
Also going for glucose test this week..🤞🏼
i used to play piano. I also like to knit sometimes and trying to learn to crochet! I was super crafty when DH was deployed always making the best/cute care packages- so glad deployments are behind us 😅🙏🏼
Appointment next week!
feeling a little more tired, a little more sore. I need to start doing some stretching or yoga because my hamstrings are getting tight. I should also take walks at lunch because it's good for me and my dog needs to lose 2 lbs 😂
rave: met a few coworkers in the park to say hi last night and it felt really good to see and talk to people
rant: one coworker touched my belly before I could block her 🤬 also my finance class is hard 😭
No questions but I think I have some answers I'll post below!
gtky: as a serial hobbiest I love this question!!!! Hobbies on hold: piano (we should all start a piano bar 😉), sewing, dog agility, coaching volleyball and track, playing sand volleyball, trail running, curling. Current hobbies: chickens, getting an MBA. Upcoming hobby: I just ordered a small loom to weave scarfs and towels and things!!!
@hp242 if you are getting cramps make sure you are not only drinking water but also an electrolyte drink (Gatorade or whatever brand/mix). I would get wicked foot cramps curling and no amount of water was helping, swapping some water for an electrolyte drink was a game changer!!! Bonus points if your beverage is magnesium based because it will help keep you regular 💩
@amm126 the extra ultrasound isn't typically standard but could be related to the need of a c-section
@briemo you will only need a rhogam shot of you have a negative blood type (technically if you're partner is also negative you shouldn't need one, but I don't know if they rely on that). If the baby has a positive blood type and your blood mixes you could develop antibodies to positive blood and have future pregnancy complications. The rhogam shot prevents this from happening and is very effective. So, if you need it, you will get a shot sometime in the third trimester and again at birth. I think they will also test your blood at some point after delivery to check for those antibodies.
@amm126 Sorry about the work stress
@briemo I'm getting a flu shot at the same time as the whooping cough shot
@jumpy57 good idea on the electrolytes, I have blue BioSteel, just have to get back to drinking it. Weaving is a great hobby, my mom learned a few years ago and I borrowed her small loom when she got a floor loom. Great activity to not have to stand for (as long as you have a good height table).
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 27+ 5, 1/8
@lavendarclouds I also woke up and vomited from acid reflux. I made it to the sink. This was also me last pregnancy during the third trimester. And you will sleep again! Newborns sleep a lot, so there's opportunity for naps. We sleep trained our daughter at 6 months and she's been sleeping like a champ ever since (minus when she had colds or was teething). Hopefully we have the same luck this time.
@amm126 Sorry to hear about the work stress. That sucks.
@briemo I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago.
@jumpy57 NO! That is completely unacceptable. No touchy the belly!
@whitealbum29 Congratulations!!!
@briemo I got my flu shot last month and as jumpy57 mentioned, you get the rhogam shot if you have a negative blood type. I'm getting one next week I think.
@jumpy57 grr the belly touching! I've always heard about people randomly touching pregnant women's bellies and never believed it was a widespread thing because it's so absurd. The only person who's touched mine was my mom and she asked first. I suppose since I've been mostly at home for my pregnancy I could be avoiding a lot of that! Haha no I love that you put all your hobbies and I love when people have lots of them! I should have made it a broader question so I would have a better answer!
@whitealbum29 congrats on your wedding!
Congratulations @whitealbum29!
@amm126 lol the countdown on your phone. I've been thinking about doing this too. I'm stopping work after the first week of Dec. And re ultrasounds: I don't have anymore scheduled for the rest of pregnancy at the moment. I think bc now I'm low risk and have no reason to.
@briemo will be getting the flu shot at my appt today. Highly recommend. You can pass the antibodies to your baby who will be protected upon birth--in flu season.
@hp242 I can attest the u-shaped pillow really helps! For me, I can't imagine I'd be able to side-sleep--and now upright sleep--without it.
@oaktree6 Let us know how the support belt goes. I've been wondering if/when I might need that.
@supersara2 awe, thank you for the kind and inspiring words that I may one day sleep again!
@msjaay I will look into doulas next month, but only if my hospital looks like they'll allow more than just my husband in the delivery room. Of course, Jan is ages away in healthcare/covid policy terms and anything can change. I'm trying to have an unmedicated birth, but also FTM, so leaving open the option of meds if/when I think I need them.
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 25+0
@whitealbum29 CONGRATULATIONS! It looks beautiful and perfect. And your cake sounds SO GOOD.
@lavenderclouds sorry to hear about the puking! what do you use for sleeping upright? I'm a back sleeper and I'm so uncomfortable on my side, even with my leg slung up on a big pillow.
@oaktree6 so jealous you get changing leaves
@msjaay I know in my area in the Northeast there are a some doulas who are very vocally welcoming of all different birth experiences/plans and don't push the idea of going med-free. The doula who wrote one of the pregnancy books I got (called Nurture) is the same way. I'm sure it's worth talking to the doulas you're meeting about it and I would imagine (and hope) they'll say they're just there to advocate for you and support you regardless of what you want! I'm taking the same approach as you I think re: meds...not totally set on being med free just because I've never experienced labor before and am worried that if I get it in my head that meds are something to be avoided, I'll feel bad if it doesn't go that route.
@hanfam2021 Totally agree re: your rant! Our state got through the first couple of waves with relatively low numbers compared to other places but I'm proceeding as though it could blow up here any time (although a Target candle-sniffing excursion sounds amazing right now and I'm glad you got to do it before locking down again!). I'm super, super lucky that I can work from home and H works outside the house but in a very cautious workplace and I know not everyone is in that situation...but we're already preparing to be super hunkered down going into winter, just going to work, doctors appts and the grocery store - although H is thinking of continuing CrossFit since it's an open-air pace and everyone's spread out but we'll reassess if things get worse here.
