How are things going?: Still waiting for O to show up which is frustrating. At this point, I'm guaranteed a 50+ day cycle given my normal LP length, assuming I actually O. If it gets to be 60 days, I'm thinking I'll call my OB and see if they still want me to do 3 natural cycles since stopping BC (I'm currently in my 2nd cycle) or if we will possibly be starting medicated cycles sooner.

Nothing really comes to mind. I suppose I had a cute Oktoberfest dress one a few years ago that I really liked.

How are things going?: Last week was rough for me but I’m up doing a bit better now.

My SIL told me she’s pregnant.. it happened on her first month trying. She told us in person, but at least it was just us and our H’s. I managed to hold it together until they left and then as soon as they left, I looked at DH and said “it’s so f*cking unfair!!” And just started sobbing. It’s not that I’m not happy for her, it just brought up all kinds of emotions and it seems so unfair that she didn’t even have to try. I keep hearing her words over and over in my head and wondering if I’ll ever have happy news to share. My IL’s invited us for dinner last night (thanksgiving here in Canada) but I told them I thought it would be too hard to be around everyone right now with SIL’s news. I can’t stop the feelings I feel from the hurt of infertility. I wish that I could just set aside my own pain for their joy, but right now I can’t. I know they won’t fully understand, but I thought it was important that they know that I’m struggling right now.

GTKY: What is your favorite Halloween costume that you've been? I was a Dalmatian one year as part of a group costume with a couple friends who were firefighters! It was super cute.. I wore a white tank and skirt that I painted with black spots and did my makeup the same. We got a lot of compliments!

I am so sorry about SIL's announcement. *Hugs* It's just not fair. You will get a chance to make the same announcement soon, I just know it. I'm a bit lucky in that I'm the last of most of my friends to TTC; and my sister had hers 7/5 years ago. But still, whenever I talk to friends who've had theirs and they tell me "I knew when I was ovulating, and we just went for it, and I got pregnant"... I get pretty freakin' envious. 

Also, Happy Thanksgiving! MH and I sourced a turkey and will smoke it today. I guess there are enough Canadians in the Bay Area that the local grocery stores stock a few turkeys.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Nothing happening this week, but MH has a bunch of diagnostic appointments next week (u/s, physical exam, repeat SA). Then f/u with urologist isn't until Nov 17; but we're on the waiting list in case of a cancellation 🤞🏻. 

How are things going?: It's going alright; this TWW is taking so long. 😩Like, why is it only 6DPO? Argh. I've also been binge-watching / listening to The Egg Whisperer show on YouTube and holy cow I'm in love with Dr. Aimee (she's local and apparently is just the best; she's also VERY expensive.) One thing that she said that made me LOL was wrt to Clomid (this is for @runningoncookies): she doesn't prescribe it because she finds an exorcism is required afterwards. 🤪Otherwise, I'm doing research about which clinic to switch. We're committed to finishing all of MHs investigation with our current clinic, but afterwards we'll move on. I've been chatting with a few ppl in the local IVF/Infertility Facebook group, and the consensus is the same: the REs are great, but the clinical care team does little to make you feel more than just a number. With reviews like that, I'm definitely do not want to be trying IVF with them.  

Any questions?: The Egg Whisperer mentioned a bunch of supplements that I'm considering adding to my / MH's supplementation, specifically, she mentioned NAD (Tru Niagen) for both females and males; she also mentioned HGH for men to boost sperm aspects. Does anyone have experience with either of these? I'm actually not really sure if HGH comes in supplement form. 

GTKY: What is your favorite Halloween costume that you've been? In my 20's, I really leaned into tongue-in-cheek costumes. One year I dressed up as a Russian mail-order bride (I'm Russian by birth); the following year, I dressed up as a Treasure "Chest". My costume hey-days are definitely behind me now.

**lurking** @acleverusername mh had sperm issues and our RE recommended an obnoxiously priced supplement (https://theralogix.com/collections/male-reproductive-health/products/conceptionxr-reproductive-health-supplement) and so I did some research and most of the fancy men's conception supplements have C, D, E, Folate, Selenium, and Lycopene. @acleverusername Yum enjoy your smoked turkey! Ugh, any time someone mentions how easy it was for them, it’s like a punch in the gut! Hope you are able to find a clinic that you are comfortable with. FX you get in with the urologist a bit sooner.. that’s a long wait! I find waiting is one of the hardest things with IF.

As for supplements, @keikilove is the local supplement guru. But you always want to confirm with your RE what to take. @gingermama29 I'm sorry your cycle is stretching so long! Super frustrating. I hope your Dr will be open to starting a medicated cycle sooner rather than having you do another cycle after this one. 

@misshelen86 sending so many hugs to you. I've been in a very similar situation. Take it day by day, and know better days are coming for you. 
**TW preg, mc mentioned**

My SIL/BIL are VERY competitive with us, and we are not. MH proposed first, and my BIL proposed a month later with the SAME EXACT RING. They rushed to get married first, didn't have a honeymoon. We were engaged for 2.5 years and took a big honeymoon, which caused a lot of fights between my BIL and SIL bc they didn't (🙄)  I had a mc in 2012 and spent another 10 months trying again. During that time my SIL had a LO and got pregnant with #2, and even knowing about the mc made some kind of comment about lapping us. It was a really rough, terrible time for me and I couldn't be around them without loads of Xanax. It is so hard dealing with stuff like this- on one hand, I was happy for family and wouldn't wish struggles on anyone, but it just sucked. I can't tell you how much and for how long I cried, and my in-laws took it as me being unhappy about her baby, when I was really unhappy about the unfairness of my situation. Do what you need for you. If you need space, take it. 

@acleverusername thanks!! I figured it would be fun for this week! My costume heydays are waaaay behind me now too LOL. Glad you are connecting with people in your area and finding more information about other treatment options. I hope your follow-up with the urologist gets moved up!! 

@krash_ good luck at the RE! Something I asked about was timeline- what the "typical" frame of time from first meeting to graduating is. It helped me gauge how quickly things would move. Of course, the thing that came back off in my bloodwork is something that has to be retested 3 months later so that messed up the timeframe.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):  Started taking baby aspirin last week and am hoping that's going to be enough to make this cycle a go 😂 planning an IUI next month and ordered the medications on Friday. 

How are things going?: they're going. Feeling more hopeful than I have in a while. Nervous too. 

Any questions?: Any other IUI people freaked out about the possibility of twins/multiples?? After I ordered the medication I started panicking about multiples even though I haven't really thought about it until now. A few years ago I would've been totally down for multiples but at this point in the journey I'm hoping for a singleton. I know it's silly bc IUIs have a low chance of success in the first place, and I will be monitored, but that's what's going through my head right now. 

GTKY: What is your favorite Halloween costume that you've been?
I had fun costumes in college that were all set around drinking lol. One year I was a MILF and walked around with a baby doll and baby bottle full of vodka, and another year I was Betty crocker with a turkey baster and a gin bucket. So. Much. Fun.

@_orchid_ I totally had the same panic when starting medicate cycles / IUI. I think it's a phase everyone has to go through.

Had this overwhelming fear that we'll end up with triplets and there's no way we'll be able to manage on our own and would have to move back to Canada to be near family. 

But yeah, so far I've done 2 medicated cycles, and both times I've only had 2 dominant follicles. Your first round will be your "baseline" re: how your body responds to medication.

@acleverusername LOL it’s so true. I’m just over here losing my mind...this morning I was literally infuriated by 1) the size of the raindrops and 2) the fact that my mask was touching my face. I’m a mess lol. Enjoy your smoked turkey today...that sounds delicious!

@krash_ good luck tomorrow!! Before my first appointment I wrote down every single question/concern I could think of and made sure I addressed each of them to get a general idea about what a hypothetical plan would look like for me. Hopefully you get some good answers!

@_orchid_ when my RE first offered IUI to DH and I as an option, I was SUPER freaked out about multiples. It’s not having twins as children that makes me anxious, but the actual twin pregnancy. That being said, given the current state of my cycle I’m getting less worried about it haha. I think it’s good to remember that your RE wouldn’t do anything that would put you in danger - they don’t want you to be a super high-risk pregnancy any more than you want that.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): finishing up this round of Clomid tonight, then hopefully scheduling an IUI eventually...

How are things going?: Just feeling super yucky from the Clomid. I definitely will be asking about taking something else next cycle if there is one. My poor H has been an absolute saint. I’ve been way more tired/out of it, moody, and just generally blah-feeling on the 100mg vs the 50 I was on at the beginning of my cycle. But today is my last dose yay! And then a monitoring appointment on Thursday and hopefully 🤞🏻 we get to schedule the trigger/IUI.

GTKY: What is your favorite Halloween costume that you've been? DH and I are pretty good at halloween. We were Hercules and Megara a couple years ago and that was probably my favorite. I was not into Halloween as a kid, but I’m actually a little bummed that we won’t be dressing up this year!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Clomid + Ovidrel + TI

How are things going?: We had good coverage this month, but we had good coverage the first two rounds, too, so I'm not very encouraged by that. Time seems to be going much more slowly on this round 3 than it did on the other 2. If this doesn't work, I'll do IUI instead of TI next, but RE says that really won't increases changes too much because we already have good coverage and there are no problems with my husband's sperm.

@runningoncookies I hope your respond well to this higher dose of Clomid but boy does it such that you’ve had to take it twice. Argh. Will anxiously await your update on Thu. Are you still doing OPKs?

@fingerscrossed1 an IUI in general increases chances of conception by 5%. So you go from about 5-9% with medication alone to 10-14% with IUI. You could also consider double IUI to increase the chance by another couple of percent, especially if there are no issues with YHs sperm, and if you don’t have to pay extra for that.

@fingerscrossed1 I'm fairly certain I've seen DPT used in context of embryo transfers ("days post transfer"). But it's not in either glossaries unfortunately, and I've been told that editing those things is a giant pain in the a$$.

@acleverusername I was using them, but I ran out and my RE told me not to even bother since they are monitoring me. So now I feel like I’m just waiting and waiting, which I guess I am lol.

My RE consult went well. He definitely made me feel like we belong there and are right to seek out help at this point but did say that he doesn't believe that my tube is actually blocked but whether it is blocked or not doesn't change how he recommends moving forward so he basically said it doesn't matter. He thinks it was a false positive, which they are known for, and without any indicators of a blocked tube its unlikely. I asked why even do them then and he did say they are therapeutic and can open up the tubes. Alas, we are going to move forward with letrozole and timed intercourse.

TW TFAS

He did say that MH's SA while "normal" he does has MFI with low morph and he would have recommended an IUI had we not successfully already conceived.

If after a few cycles we are still unsuccessful we will do IUI. He did also say that with the monitoring that if I am consistently ovulating on the right, the suspected blocked tube, and we are still unsuccessful he might recommend a repeat HSG. I'm on CD 2 now but there is more paper work, blood work and education that myself and MH need to complete before we can start and the baseline u/s and letrozole would start on CD 3 so we don't have time for that by tomorrow.  So we get one more cycle before we spend up to $2k per cycle on IF treatments. 

Also I liked that he said the 12 month benchmark is based on old data and that he doesn't recommend BBT tracking anymore.

@krash_ glad to hear that your RE was a lot more understanding / interested in working with you and YH. If you don't mind, can you share YH's SA results? I've been told before on here that MFI would be anything below 10M TMC, but it sounds like different REs have different parameters for what they call MFI.

@krash_ I'm so glad your appointment went so well!! It sounds like your Dr is great and was able to make you feel comfortable. Bummer that you're at CD2 and missing the CD3 bloodwork- I was on CD4 when I went and it was "hurry up and wait" for the next cycle. MH's morph is low too (1%) and my Dr said that could be related to why it's taking so long.

@acleverusername Thank you for the info! I'm wondering if that increase is mostly from couples who are having sperm issues as well? Perhaps not, I don't know the statistics. My RE had mentioned that it won't increase the chances much if there are no existing sperm issues. But definitely will try it next round if I strike out on this one. Today is still just 6 DPO...

Double IUI is interesting - RE didn't mention that! I will ask about it if necessary.

@krash_ Hoping Letrozole + TI works for you! This is my third round of Clomid + TI and if that doesn't work, we'll try IUI for round 4.

@acleverusername Sorry this TWW is dragging on for you. It’s always hard the closer it gets to testing time! Sounds like you guys have a lot more helpful appointments coming up—although FX you won’t need them!//I LOVE the Egg Whisperer—she seems so down-to-earth and is super informative.//I’ve only heard of HGH as an injection, not sure whether it’s available in supplement form. 
@krash_ Glad you had a good appointment with the RE! Re: your supplement question: We just met with a new RE. She said the critical supplements for both men & women are: Folic acid (preferably folate) Co-Q 10 (preferably in Ubiquinol form), Vitamin E, & Baby Aspirin. 

@_orchid_ FX that the baby aspiring does the trick! I’ve heard lots of women with blood clotting issues report that the only thing they added to their successful PG was baby aspirin. So it’s not that far fetched! Re: your question about multiple with IUI: I never worried because mine were almost all unmedicated & there was always only one lead follicle. If you are medicated an shave several larger follies then maybe it’s a concern? 

@runningoncookies I said it in WTO, but congrats on finishing the Clomid! I hope the effects subside quickly. Also, FX that you get to do the trigger & IUI fairly soon. Good luck!

Thank you all for your support! It’s pretty crazy to be actually starting down this road now. 

@acleverusername I don’t actually know the specifics of his SA but the RE said that his count was 200M but his morph was less than 10% and they like to see that closer to 30%. He said morph was the least important factor but still a factor so it could be MFI. I think there might be a couple different things playing a role here so idk that either of us have an actual diagnosis 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thanks you for that article though that was helpful!

@krash_ happy to pass on all of the useful information I've learned here and elsewhere! Sounds like YH count is really good, but yeah, morphology can be a factor. That's not an issue that MH has, so none of the vitamins he's taking is for that. (But they broadly overlap with what @keikilove has suggested except Vitamin E and baby aspirin... @keikilove really? For men too? 🤔)

@fingerscrossed1 I think that even with no issue with sperm, IUI _should_ increase your chances b/c all the sperm is being placed in the uterus. Are you out of pocket or do you have fertility benefits? Maybe your RE is not suggesting it because the cost isn't worth it? 

Also, I found an article that cites 3 studies that says that double IUI isn't really beneficial: https://www.austinfertility.com/can-double-intrauterine-insemination-iui-improve-pregnancy-outcomes/. In our case, our RE recommended against it since we're out of pocket, and it is not proven to increase chances. 

@keikilove I'm learning so much from TEW! My acupuncturist was singing her praises last week ("Dr. Aimee is THE BEST") and I'm thinking of getting a consult with her. Apparently she'll still answer your questions / give advice even if you don't end up going with her. But... maybe I won't need to! FX.

@acleverusername That's possible. I do have some fertility benefits, but not great ones, so for the IUI I would be paying out of pocket mostly. Still, I will absolutely try it next cycle if this one doesn't work out. We will have to make the costs work.

**lurking again** @krash_ hope you don’t mind me popping in. MH had low morph (under 4%) - our main issue plus my short LP. Supps seemed to improve it over a period of 3 mo. I shared them in this thread already. TI and letrozole with monitoring seems totally appropriate and *tw* success story

We had success with that. Unfortunately it ended in TFMR. We then tried IUI and had success with the first IUI - so I have hope for you guys!!

@chichiphin thanks for posting! MH also has low morph so I'm going to double check his vitamins. When I had my initial RE consult, without seeing a single test result, she told us both to start taking vitamin D-I'm glad it's one of the ones that can help with morph!

Exciting update for me!! I have a follie on the right at 21mm, and one on the left at 15mm that my RE said “may or may not produce an egg”. Either way, psyched about that 21! Triggered this morning (with minimal panic over my first time injecting myself with a needle), and my IUI is scheduled for tomorrow morning! Yay!

@krash_ I know you didn't ask me (haha), but I figured I'd contribute what MH is taking as well. Most of these were recommended by the NaPro OB I saw in July; they were also "approved" by our RE.

@krash_ I was going to send you a PM, but then I thought this might be good for others to see in case they are in the same boat. My first HSG showed a blocked tube as well- a distal blockage, which is unlikely to be a spasm. My RE gave me 3 options. 1. Do nothing, since my other tube was open. She was open to doing medicated cycles to help me ovulate on the good side. 2. Repeat the HSG to make sure it’s really blocked. 3. Go for an exploratory lap to see what’s going on. Her recommendation was to get booked in for the lap but in the meantime, repeat the HSG to make sure before going through surgery. I really didn’t want to bother repeating the HSG but went with her recommendation. My repeat ending up being fine so the surgery was cancelled. She explained that sometimes there isn’t enough pressure to come out one side of the tube because it’s all trying to go out the other tube so it appears blocked even if it isn’t. Glad things went well with the RE.. sounds like a reasonable plan for you to proceed with letrozole/TI for now and consider repeating the HSG in the future as long as they don’t think you have a hydrosalpinx (since that it would interfere with implantation). 

@_orchid_ Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps to know I’m not alone in my reaction. But a big WTF to your SIL for that comment.. what a horrible thing to say! I was really freaked out about the possibility of multiples. Especially since I work in an NICU, so I see the complications that arise from multiples. My RE pointed out that the risk of twins is the same between IUI and IVF (about 10%... assuming you are properly monitored of course!) because the embryo can split during IVF. So that helped put it into perspective a bit for me.
