FTM Check-In Week of 10/5

There weren't really any good first time mom group examples in some of the other BMBs. Not sure why. Please let me know if you think of a question we should add to this list:

How far along are you?
What are some thoughts/ideas/concerns you are having as a FTM?
Rants/Raves:
GTKY: What car do you drive? What car does YH/SO drive? Has that/will that change because of your growing family?

  • How far along are you? 5+5

What are some thoughts/ideas/concerns you are having as a FTM? I'm SO excited this has finally happened for us, but of course the worry of a MC is there even though I have no reason to believe it will happen (I'm sure that's what most think the first time around!). I'm on Wellbutrin and I'm a little worried of fetal issues by staying on these meds. Need to get an OB ASAP so I can ask if I should be switched to something else.

Rants/Raves: ugh Mondays 😆 just need to get this week over and then it's our first US with the RE next Monday!

GTKY: What car do you drive? What car does YH/SO drive? Has that/will that change because of your growing family? DH and I are a Tesla EV family. He has the Model 3 (sedan) and I have the new Model Y (crossover). I don't think we'd go beyond 2 kids so there should be no need for a new car in the future, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. For now, our cars meet our needs!

What are some thoughts/ideas/concerns you are having as a FTM? Similar to @I@inthewoods23, I'm worried about MC, even though I have no history of it. I feel like I have a million questions about my lifestyle while pregnant and there is so much contradictory information out there, its enough to drive you crazy!

Rants/Raves: I feel like I need to get my ish together... I can not stop eating. Please note, it is not just because I am hungry. It's also anxiety, exhaustion, and, you know, just because food is there... I have lost 80 pounds in the past 2.5 years and I am more than happy to gain back what I need to so I can deliver a healthy baby, but it doesn't need to start in the first dang week...

GTKY: What car do you drive? What car does YH/SO drive? Has that/will that change because of your growing family? We have 2 cars - A Nissan Rogue and a Kia Forte. My husband drives a work van everyday, so the Forte is pretty much sitting there gathering dust. I love my Rogue and have no intention of changing it. It would definitely work for 2 kids and we have no plans to grow our family more than that!

What are some thoughts/ideas/concerns you are having as a FTM?  I'm just freaked out about everything right now!  I'm pretty much worried that anything I do is going to mess things up, so I guess I'm in the same boat as @inthewoods23 and @Maggie1202 about being worried about MC.  Right now I'm super stressed about finding an OB, did a bunch of research yesterday and planning to get on the phone today.

Rants/Raves:  Rant:  on the OB front, why is it so hard to find one!?  I fell like I need to make this huge life decision right now so I can start scheduling appointments and all I have to go on are crappy Yelp and google reviews!  Am I just supposed to pick the one with the least complaints posted?  ugh.  And on top of that picking the hospital also plays in since they all seem to only deliver at one place.  In an ideal (an unrealistic) scenario I would just like someone to tell me which doctor is best for me so I can move on :)

GTKY: What car do you drive? What car does YH/SO drive? Has that/will that change because of your growing family? I drive a Buick Encore and he drives a Chevy Blazer.  My car is a little crossover type vehicle and I'll admit the idea of future kids played into the purchase decision so no need to change mine at the moment.  His car is quite old and needs an upgrade, although its perfectly safe to carry around the little ones and is also our "tough" car for getting around in the snow.  He wants to get an electric SUV but I told him he has to wait a couple years, they seem to only be available in the luxury brands right now and we don't need to spend that much on a new car, we can wait until some of the mid-range brands start making them.

Same as everyone above, just so nervous about MC although I fully know there's nothing I can do about that. I'm trying to get my OB to let me get some blood HCG today but waiting to hear back. I just want to know were I stand!

    Rants/Raves:
Ugh. I'm impatient lol. I wish I knew if this was going to pan out or not.

GTKY: What car do you drive? What car does YH/SO drive? Has that/will that change because of your growing family?
I drive a RAV-4 SUV and my husband has a truck but also has a small company car. I think we are good with are cars for now since his is paid off and mine has less than $1500 to go! I think if there was a 2nd baby down the line I would consider getting something with a third row. Our dog is kind of a princess and needs space to travel too lol
  • How far along: 5w+4d

Thoughts/ideas/concerns: MC is definitely on my mind but I’m more worried that a baby isn’t even there! I’m such a planner that not having verification is stressing me out. My husband is trying to keep me calm 🤣

Rants/Raves: nothing outside of wanting a picture now! Appointment is 10/22.

GTKY: I drive a Chevy Cruz and he has a Ford Ranger but he also has a van work gave him to commute that we can put a car seat in. We will be trading in my car sometime over the next few months for an all wheel SUV. Not just for the space for the baby but also because we live in a snow/icy part of MD and we need a safer car. I’ve been holding off because my car has been paid off for 4-5 years. It’s been great!
  • I just wanted to pop in to offer some support. Pregnancy is a total mind f*ck, especially in the early weeks, even more if you've had trouble conceiving, even worse if you've had a loss, and the holy grail of sh*t show if you have a combination situation. I've been through it all, so my heart goes out to all of you.

Try taking it one day at a time, and when you have those moments when you just need to say something to someone about whatever weird emotional state you are feeling - thats exactly what this group is for. Feel free to PM or tag me. Always here for you ladies... because I was you once and someone held my hand.

Also @inthewoods23 you should be able to at least have a virtual appointment with a doc via your insurance company to discuss the meds you are on, in the event you cant get ahold of your OB and @ellieemc26
is your GYN not also an OB? Or can they at least refer you to one?

@fitz1989 fellow MD resident although Im closer to the city. Are you western MD like Garret Co area?

  • @jaztastic thanks for the support :) I did talk with a nurse at the OB's practice and got confirmation I'm okay to stay on the Wellbutrin. I think it's just not the preferred medication to be on. I've only been on it for about a month and a half so I would've been fine switching since I'm not that far into taking it.

  • @jaztastic - hagerstown but hoping to move to Allegheny next year! We would love to live in Garrett but it would be too far a commute for the hubby. Where about a are you?
  • @fitz1989 Im western Balt Co near Sykesville just before crossing into Carrol Co. Garrett is a hike, but I love the area. I cant get enough of Deep Creek... fall is my favorite time to go.

  • @jaztastic my OBGYN actually retired about 2 months after she referred us for fertility treatments!  Since we've done any necessary treatment with the RE since then I hadn't needed to find a replacement doc.  The thing I was really struggling with was that I live literally 5 minutes from a hospital with a top notch birth center, but I just couldn't find a single doctor that delivered there that I felt even remotely compelled to talk to more.  It turned out (without knowing I had been a patient there) that my IVF nurse highly recommended the same practice I had been going to so in the end I'm staying with a different doctor at the same practice, but we have to drive a half hour or so to get to that hospital whenever that is needed.  On the upside the practice has offices both at that hospital and very close to my house so regular appointments won't be a location issue.
  • @ellieemc26 ohh yea I get that. My OB referred me to my RE, and both are affiliated with my preferred hospital (also about a 25min drive). We have a OBGYN coop, I think they are up to 8 doctors and like 3 NPs now. On the plus side I can always be seen by someone. Downside is you almost always see a different doctor when visiting for routine appointments. Im glad we have an extensive communications/charting system but at times I wish I could just see the same person. In hindsight, in the case of emergency or delivering with the "on call" doctor, you are at least fairly familiar and it isnt a total stranger.
