Lead Follicle IVF

Hi everyone,

I am on my second IVF stim cycle. The first cycle was cancelled when I over stimmed and had 50 + large follicles developing. 

This stim I am having very different issues. I Am on stim day 8 and have one lead follicle that is 14mm. All the rest of my follicles are 5mm. The doctor has changed up my med protocol in hopes that some of the small follicles will “catch up” but I do not feel very hopeful. I feel that it is inevitable that this cycle will be cancelled. 

Does anyone have experience with this? Is there any hope?

@lmatche was there a lead follicle present before you started the stim medications? I've heard of cycles being cancelled due to one showing up at baseline. Is it possible your new protocol is having the complete opposite effect and only producing 1 follicle? With that big of a difference in sizes, I would expect that they would cancel the cycle again. Don't give up hope though - they will work to find you a protocol that yields better results.

@Imatche, sorry to hear that your cycles keep getting problems.
I also had a very large number of follicles with my first IVF, but in the end we didn't end up with that many eggs (and I did have bad OHSS afterwards). I do hear stories of people having one very big lead follicle and other catching up in the end, so you still have hope! If it doesn't happen, do you have an option of switching to IUI instead?

Thanks for the positive vibes. My last monitoring appointment showed some more promise, with 8 follicles gaining quickly in size. I am back for more monitoring today, and am hopeful that things will continue to progress for me. Unfortunately IUI is not an option, as I have a non - functioning uterus. So, I am attempting to make embryos for a surrogacy journey.
