Rant/Rave: Finished organizing the baby/DD closet (AKA girls closet) I have most things ordered/here AND I just found the double stroller I want for $80 bucks on marketplace so picking up today as long as it looks as good as the photos! I just need to get diapers and some small things.

GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? H is a recovering alcoholic... Two days before Christmas 6.5 years ago H gave up alcohol cold turkey. It was by far the best gift I have ever gotten and saved our marriage. I don't drink at all for him and we have a dry house. But yeah that was the best gift. I am so proud of him because it was the second time he gave it up and it was his own decision.
@mtengl I don't think I have shared this yet here but I am in recovery, and just wanted to say that is so awesome your H is in recovery and that you both were able to come out of that together! I know first hand how much destruction we cause and how much we hurt those that we love most/that love us. Recovery is definitely a gift!
Baby is the size of: VHS Tape Case - bringing back my childhood!!!
Upcoming Appointments: Glucose screen sometime next week...or whenever I decide to commit to it and walk into the lab. 28 week midwife check-up 8/21 and f/u anatomy u/s scan 8/28 to make sure my placenta is moving away from my cervix
Rant/Rave: RAVE! This was an active weekend for me! I went on a 20 mile (mostly flat) bike ride with a couple friends on Saturday and felt great! Then Hubs and I decided to hike in Mt. Rainier National Park yesterday; we ended up choosing a strenuous hike, but despite getting out of breath way too fast for my liking, I felt good too! Baby girl preferred ascending over descending. It was 8 miles RT and elevation gain of ~1700 feet! Crazy! RANT: My poor hips can feel how active I was...stupid relaxin...
Questions?: I think this has been answered already, but I can't remember where. Did you fast before your Glucose Screen (1 hour test)? My midwife said I didn't have to but...I don't want to eat something that will make me have to take the 3 hour test...
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you?: Hmmm...probably the flight and 6-week trip to New Zealand my (now) husband but (then) not even boyfriend bought me to come visit him! Long story short: we were talking but unofficial my freshman year of college because he had just graduated undergrad and was off to NZ for a break before the next step in his life and I had just started college. He bought me a ticket to come see him for summer and the day I landed, he asked me to be his official girlfriend! 8 years ago now and here we are.
@mtengl That is definitely an AMAZING and wonderful gift

@bserena congratulations on the recovery! what always blows my mind is how many strange looks I get for saying I don't drink at all. It was such a hard thing for H to give up and my father is an alcoholic and has been since I was born (he functions in society so he thinks he is just fine), so me giving up something I just moderately enjoy is nothing compared to what H has done and it supports him. I think if I even had a sip of something I would feel so guilty. @lovelee3 I did fast for my GTT each time I have taken one. My OB recommended it this time but in the past they never told me I needed to but from everything I know as a dietitian, you are going to get better results fasting.... that is a super sweet story too about your husband!! Also omg that is amazing all you did this weekend. I get through 1 mile walk and I am ready for a nap...
@mtengl Thank you! Did you do an 8 hour fast? I might have to plan to swing by the lab first thing in the morning on the day I decide to go... My midwife said I didn't have to fast for the screen but would have to fast if I have to go back for the test. Don't get me wrong about all the activity - I was tired after! But looooved being active during!
Me: 27 DH: 30 Started dating: 10/2010 ;; Married 10/2017 Started TTC: 10/2019 BFP: 12/20/19 ;; MC: 12/24/19 BFP: 3/5/20 ;; EDD: 11/11/20
@lovelee3 My appointment was at 8:30AM and I didn't eat or drink anything after 9pm (just the time I went to bed). I would say don't eat or drink anything after midnight and get an appointment first thing.
@mtengl oh yeah, I totally get that! My H is in recovery to, so neither of us drink. Most of our friends are as well, so we don't hear about it often, but it definitely comes up. For example, I have been with my company over 3 years and every Christmas they have a dinner for us. We always get coffee instead of wine or whatever, and without fail, every year, someone has to make a comment about it. I really don't know why people feel the need to bring it up, but oh well!
Rant/Rave: Rant: I'm soooooooo tired! We had family down for my birthday on the weekend, which was great... but now I'm exhausted! Rave: Same as my rant! lol It was my 40th birthday on the weekend, and TBH I just wanted to ignore it, but DH insisted we do something, so ended up having family down. My parents are being very cautious with COVID, so just had a small gathering, but we haven't all gotten together in probably 4 or 5 years so it was great to see everyone for a couple days xx
Questions? Nothing this week
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? DH wanted to get me a matching band to go with my wedding/engagement ring for my birthday... but he didn't realize how much the price of gold went up and about 2 days before my birthday decided that was too much money... but didn't have time to find anything else... so he got me a garden hose! bah ha ha ha ha ha ha It made me laugh soooo much... love my hose! But seriously, probably my best gift was the little gold pineapple pendant he got me when we did IVF. The pineapple is the symbol for infertility and I wear it every day.
Bserena mtengl Congratulations on your / your husbands recovery! It is not easy to admit and overcome... definitely something to be proud of.
Upcoming Appointments: Thursday for the glucose test 😖
Rant/Rave: This is always the point in pregnancy where I have a hard time with body image. I’ve never been one of those amazing women who feel beautiful during pregnancy and I am trying suuuuuper hard to fight those degrading thoughts!
Questions? Not today.
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? My parents woke me up Christmas morning when I was 16 with a little yorkie puppy. He has seen me through a lot of rough times in my teen years and now has been my kids security guard. He will be 16 next month and his health is starting to fall, but he has been the best dog ever. 💜
And to you awesome ladies celebrating sobriety for yourselves or your SO, I am so proud of you all and happy for you! My brother is a recovering drug addict and have seen how great it is for those chains to fall. 💜
Rant/Rave: rave- I passed the glucose test and my iron levels are back up. 🥳 rant- back pain kept me awake last night. Probably related to some yard work I did in the evening. 😣
Questions? None right now.
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? One year DH took me on my birthday on a boat through the mangroves to see crocodiles in western Mexico. It was a wonderful adventure!
Upcoming Appointments: Just had one on Monday. Passed the glucose test (yay!) but found out I'm pretty anemic, which makes sense for the levels of exhaustion I've felt lately. I had been blaming my 1.5 year old, but I guess he's off the hook for some of it. Now just trying to figure out the best way to take the iron pills so as to avoid three more months of nausea after feeling like I just got over the morning sickness.
Rant/Rave: I'm glad to be back here! I was on like a month long vacation back home out West and, like most vacations, felt even more tired and overwhelmed while away so I never had much of a chance to log on. The rave part of it was that it was great to be back home with the lovely dry summers and huge lake and family pontoon. The rant part is that it's always frustrating when making travel plans like this to hear relatives say "oh we'll help with the toddler, don't worry!" and then be reminded that by "help" they mean play with the kid for 15 minutes a day while I still managed all meals, naps, and diapers, without DH even. So kind of hit and miss there.
Questions? I'm paying close attention to the Questions thread and discussion about sheltering in place before the birth. I had already floated to DH that he should work from home 2 weeks before the due date, but I haven't heard any official recommendations from my midwife. Will try to remember to ask next time though.
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? DH planned our entire honeymoon as a surprise after the wedding. It was so great not having to think about or plan any of it. I keep telling him that once the kids are older, I want a similar planned vacation as multiple years' worth of Christmas presents because it was by far the best thing I ever received!
Baby is the size of: 🥬 Kale and as long as a box of Kleenex.
Upcoming Appointments: 24-26? I can’t remember. I’m waiting to get a confirmation text to mark it down in my calendar 🙈 It’s my glucose test. @lovelee3 I was told not to fast, but when they made my appointment they made sure made it in the morning so I can eat after.
Rant/Rave: I ordered a wooden sign with LOs name to go above the crib and a personalized Muslin blanket. So we officially have her name, Emmylou Jentry. The wooden sign was around a 10 week wait so I had to finalize it. DH was out of town last night and DD stayed at grandma’s. I was an idiot that accidental binged “How to get a way with murder” until 3am. Today is a struggle.
@lovelee3 How is that workout even possible? I walked two flights of stairs yesterday and thought I was going to die.
@bserena and @mtengl good for the both of you and H. It helps to have a support system.
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? I know there are probably some better ones, but the first one that comes to mind is a black leather jacket DH bought me for Valentines one year. I’d been wanting one for a while and he surprised me with it. I was super impressed because it fit perfect and I loved the style. I gave him practically no direction. I usually feel horrible, because I have hated some of the gifts I’ve gotten.... and I’ve told him.
Back in March I was pretty anemic. I didn’t do pills, but I did start taking liquid Floradix. It’s an iron supplement mixed with juices with good vitamin C content, which helps with iron absorption in the body. I learned there’s a whole list of things that prevent your body from getting iron (coffee is one ) so I was careful about the timing of my taking the Floradix. I also made an effort to eat more meat and added some other iron-rich foods like molasses and dried apricots to my diet, which I think helped me get my hemoglobin up to a normal level. I hope you can find some good sources of iron that don’t make you too nauseous. Best of luck!
Baby is the size of: sonogram tech estimated about 2 lbs on Monday
Upcoming Appointments: GD screening next Tuesday morning. I've found its best to chill it then chug it quickly rather than trying to sip it.
Rant/Rave: I'm trying to think of something new to rant about but failing. 8 weeks of contractions. FML. Rave: I did an online social event this week with my local mom's group! Yay for socializing! FYI I'm rusty at social interactions 😆
Questions? What are y'all doing this weekend? Anything fun?
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? DH worked with an artist to get a picture of us created (digital file) with DD in the bluebonnets. We didn't get good bluebonnet pictures and I was disappointed. He surprised me a few months later for my birthday. It's like the Disney version of us and I love it. So thoughtful and honestly I was so surprised that he thought of it. He got it printed on metal. We want to update it within the next year as it just has DD.
@kelk5 feel free to rant about the same thing. I just now tell H pregnant when he asks me what is wrong.
We went on our 1mile walk and got a bagel sandwich. Now I am watching the toddler play with finger puppets. No real plans other than laundry. I made peanut butter balls and monster cookies after work yesterday.
A bit late this week but better late then never, right?😅 Estimated due date (EDD): Nov 9th or 13th🙄
Week of pregnancy: 27+5
Baby is the size of: kale I think?
Upcoming Appointments: sometime at the end of the month...24th maybe? with my midwife
Rant/Rave: rave: just got home from a week long trip to middle norway. My SIL was home for the summer but lives there, going to school so we 'brought' her back. Did a ton of necessary shopping that I otherwise would have had to do online so super pumped to just have what we need! Rant: we had a 4 hr ferry ride to get home and it was quite the ride! Super windy and huge waves...and yes, I got seasick🤢 Rave #2: I'm glad MH was with me and has had lots of practice taking care of a puking me. He knew just what I needed!
Questions? There was some talk on a different weeks post about fundal massages so I learned a bit about them but are they something that is optional or does that totally depend on the hospital/delivery sites procedures?
GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? I'd have to say first is my wedding ring from my husband. It's a simple gold band and I love it! My engagement ring was pretty cool too tho. I didn't want anything fancy or expensive because I wasn't planning to wear it after we got married (just the wedding band) so MH surprised me with a band he made out of a quarter. So many people would ask me if it was rose gold and it was always so fun to tell them, nope, copper!😂 (if you didnt know, the inside of a quarter is copper and it's just plated with nickel to make it silver) also kind of special because you can read "the United States of America" on the inside and we're an international couple😊 Picture in spoiler
Laundry is also a big plan of mine this weekend! Luckily, my parents, cousin, and BIL all came over to help with the kids today (they are our bubble). I feel bad as I didn't realize what the date is and tomorrow is BIL's birthday. So we ordered a cheesecake for delivery to celebrate.
@kelk5 mmm cheesecake. Monster cookies are oatmeal, peanut butter, m&ms and chocolate chip cookies. Kind of like a kitchen sink type cookie.
@babywiik I was so out of it after delivering but I do remember the nurses doing the fundal massage after labor. It might have just been an auto thing, I need to ask my OB if they will do it again. I thought it helped and it wasn’t that painful for me but I had just pushed a kid out sooo... I would talk to your midwife to see if it is something they automatically do or not.
@babywiik your ring is so cool! And that 4 hour ferry ride sounds like a nightmare. Our ferry ride close to here last about 5 minutes. 🤣 @kelk5 my plan today was to go to a Ross and buy new pet beds. Done! And clean house... 2% done even though I worked on it for hours! Tomorrow, we are planning on going to our friend’s 3 year old birthday party. I kinda want to jest stay home a clean more.. the nesting urge is starting to rev up.
@kelk5All weekend DH is swamped with work, so I set my bar low this weekend. Yesterday my goals were to check out a natural foods store I found a few weeks ago and to get an iced hazelnut latte. Mission accomplished! Today I want to get some yard work done and do yoga afterwards. If I skip the yoga my hips and back will be killing me. If I do it, they’ll only be threatening to kill me.
@kelk5 Last day of the weekend but a weekend that was going to have minimal plans turned out to be a fun weekend. Yesterday, I explored Ballard (socially distanced) with a couple friends from work - we got dairy free ice cream, hot cakes, and sushi! SO fun! But my feet swelled up in the heat and I got blisters from my Birks Today those same two friends are throwing a due baby shower for a co-worker and I at an outdoor park. It's just co-workers that we are already around every day of the week, so that's going to be fun (but hot!).
@babywiik That's SUCH a cool ring! Way to go hubby!
@mtengl Wanna send some monster cookies and PB balls this way? YUM!!!

Also, thanks everyone for your replies about the glucose screening. I'm definitely going to fast - no food after 7:30-8PM tonight so I can get to the lab right at 7, take it, and be done by 8 so I can go home and EAT.

@babywiik love your ring! So unique and beautiful. I don't think I've mentioned this before but we were in Norway the first week of March. We were visiting friends and primarily stayed in the Oslo area because we were traveling with a 2 year old and 10 month old. But we took a ferry out to some islands in the Oslo fjord and it was beautiful. But not nearly as long a ride as you had on the ferry. I really want to go back when the kids are older and do the train ride to Bergen. Have you done that?
@kelk5 Oslo is really pretty! Ok, like everywhere ive been in norway has a good view but I've spent most of my time in northern norway. I want to take a trip along the coast of southern norway someday so let me know when you come back over here and I'll try to plan a trip at the same time and we can meet up in Bergen 😉
