    Hi! I'm reading Ibram X. Kendi's How to Be an Anti-Racist for my other book club this month. I also just finished Beach Read, which was pretty fun. My favorite books so far this summer were Tove Jansson's The Summer Book and Yoko Ogawa's The Memory PoliceJust a few things knocking around in my head.
    Rainbow Baby? {2.1.21}
    MC at 8 weeks {EDD 9.2.20}
    Rainbow Girl! {2.28.16}Pregnancy Ticker
    Baby boy, lost at 16 weeks {EDD 6.10.15}

  • I'm a big fan of the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
  • Oh The Memory Police looks interesting...

    I'm currently reading Blink (forget the author) not sure if it's appropriate for a book club read tho? It's nonfiction and based on relationships.
  • I'm currently reading Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It's set in a creepy old house with a really strong female lead.

    @adorebel I recently read Beach Read! I think it was a pretty fun read. A romantic comedy book I read and LOVED was the Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
  • @animommy I love Malcolm Gladwell! Just checked a couple of his books out from the library.
  • I’m terrible at picking books. The only book I was able to get off Libby this week was All we Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin. She is the one who was talking smack about Meghan Markle right? That’s lame. Are we boycotting her because she’s rude? Is that why I was able to borrow the book? 😆 Anyway maybe we can make a poll of like four options and vote? One historical fiction, one romance , one sci-fi , one non fiction ... that type of thing?
  • @birdiejo A poll works.  The Summer book has gotten a couple mentions with good reviews. Maybe start with that?
  • @jumpy57 Mexican Gothic looks so good!!! I heard a review of it on NPR and was intrigued. It’s on my list!
  • @hannahbananas11 I just finished it 😳 it got a little wild but it was a very good read 👍 these are my thoughts while I read the book:
    Oh this is good, nice characters, ooo getting weird, I wonder what that means, oh no, OH NO, WTF!?!, Oh man, ok, wow
  • @jumpy57 😂😂 that was my train of thought when I read Gone, Girl. 😂
  • @hannahbananas11 if you liked Gone Girl you will probably really like You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.
  • Ok I absolutely can read anything else  but my ideas

    A. Becoming By Michelle Obama
    B. The Darwin Affair By Timothy Mason
    C. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
    D. American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

    what do you guys think?
  • @birdiejo looks good! Maybe skip American Dirt on that list and replace with Mexican Gothic or The Summer Book? There was a lot of negative press around Cummins' book that kind of dampened my interest in it...

    MC at 8 weeks {EDD 9.2.20}
    Rainbow Girl! {2.28.16}Pregnancy Ticker
    Baby boy, lost at 16 weeks {EDD 6.10.15}

  • Sure thing! I’m down for either of those! Honestly I just frantically compiled a list this morning because I realized I suggested this on August 1 and it’s now August 6 ahhh! Should I make a separate post with poll?
  • @birdiejo that list with @adorebel’s change is great! I’d be happy to read any of those.
  • @birdiejo agree on the American Dirt replacement.... Also I was going to read where the crawdads sing as my next book 😂 you must be psychic
  • Where the crawdads sing sounds really good. I'm also in for either of @adorebel replacement suggestions.
  • Should we start with Where the Crawdads Sing? I am going to order it if so because it’s been on my holds on Libby for like three months and no end in sight.
  • @birdiejo Sure! Let's do it. I'll order it on Kindle today. When should we aim to finish by?
  • That is fine with me.  Crawdads Sing is the winner!  What's our goal to finish the book?
  • Looks like there's 2 parts to the book, could we all check in after the first one for some mid book discussion?
  • My book just came in!!
  • @birdiejo How’s this going? I missed it for August, will there be a September book? Interested in joining!
  • Omg I failed at our book discussion 😂 anyone want to discuss? Let’s pick a book for September!!
  • @birdiejo Yeahhhhhh, I didn’t read a single page. 😳 But I’ll try my best for the September read!
    Throwing out some book ideas:
    -Born A Crime by Trevor Noah
    -Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
  • Oh I really like Trevor Noah... let me google this book...

    Truthfully I forgot to read a single page but the one thing I can do well is read quickly so I figured I’d just read it today 🤣.
  • @hannahbananas11 @birdiejo I started reading born a crime and would love to finish it. I’m on board with that for September! Maybe we can set up a video chat for the book club meetings!
  • Am I the only one that read crawdads??? 😂 I loved it!
  • I’ll read it this weekend! I got so distracted by recipe books this month!
