What kind of hobbies do you guys have that are not pregnancy related? Either hobbies you already had or are picking up due to your life changin soon? Any that you're considering to pass the time during pregnancy/COVID?
I am invested in animal rescue (we recently rescued a baby bird!) & herbal animal medicine. I greatly enjoy studying herbs and how we can apply them to our everyday lives. I'm a nature junkie so it helps me feel connected to the world around me. I've also seen amazing results that vets could not explain, so it made me a believer. I've been heavily invested in studying herbal medicine for people for over 27 years & have been blessed to have some fantastic mentors in my life. I hope to be able to pass the gift onto others & animals is one way I can help.
I also enjoy video games before they were cool haha I play on everything and enjoy a wide variety. I also greatly enjoy scrapbooking and being crafty as well as venturing in the great outdoors.
I played volleyball very competatively and still play when I can, sand, indoor court, or grass, I'll take anything! I also took up golf about 5 years ago, and play in our club's ladies league and just recreationally - my handicap showed great improvement during Covid because it was really our only activity, but these days it's hard to get through 18 with such a low energy level. Last, I love to ski. We try to get in 20 or so days on the mountain a year (not an easy talk given my husband and I are both CPAs). I'm pretty bummed to miss ski season this year, but looking forward to eventually having a little ski bunny to tote along
Oh excellent! I played VB in High School (weird I know we had a team!) That's excellent! It sounds like so much fun to play competitively! I hear ya, I love snowboarding but had some adventures (LOL) learning to ski. Evidently the first time I didn't fall & was like oh this is a cinch. After that I accidentally ended up on a Black Diamond & "skiied" half of it on my butt haha! Wow, that's gotta be quite the hectic schedule! Do you guys travel to ski or stay more local? The good news is skiing will be doubly worth it very soon! Thank you for weighing in!
@animommy I've definately taken a wrong turn in my day, so know that feeling!! We live in Colorado, so we mostly ski here (we get the epic local pass which covers all Vail resorts), but try to sneak away from time to time to ski elsewhere. I grew up in Seattle and used to make it to Whistler once a year or so, and would love to get back there!
I LOVE volleyball and played a lot of sand and some grass until after my second and I just didn't have the time anymore.
Last summer I got really into running and love trail running. I convinced my friends to do a Ragnar trail relay with me and it was awesome! Taking this summer off and will hopefully get back into it next year!
My husband and I are into curling! It's so fun and we were bummed the season got cut short last year due to covid. I'm not sure what the club plan is this year but I won't be able to join a league being due in the middle of the season. I might try and do a bonspiel (tournament) though.
Pregnant me is into biking and hiking since they are fairly low impact and I can go at my own pace.
My current (very boring) hobby is getting my MBA. It seriously takes up most of my free time.
Count me in for the volleyball crew haha! I played in middle school and high school and used to play at a local rec center, but the team kind of fizzled out and I haven’t played in 3 years now.
i grew up riding and competing nationally with my horse. We were very successful but I got out of it after college. It is a very expensive sport and I don’t see myself getting back into it. My mom and sisters are still really into it.
i started to get into working out right before this pregnancy and really enjoyed it. I’m usually not one to workout unless I have to so that was different, but this pregnancy has wiped out my energy and working out has stopped. Hopefully I’ll be back into it again soon when my energy comes back. Until then I’ll enjoy our family walks around the neighborhood.
Hoping as I come off of the progesterone, and move into second tri to get back into Peloton instead of just doing yoga.
I’m working on my cooking skills for 2020... MH loves to cook and I’ve let him just take over a lot. So I wanted to get back in the kitchen and master some of my own recipes and specialties.
I love to read but having two young kids has sapped my attention span so I’m into light reading at the moment. I also want to work on my photography skills. And I love art but I haven’t had time to do any lately. ♥️
Hobbies ahhhh I have so many aspirational hobbies and have been doing absolutely nothing.
I like photography, I would love to learn to sew and knit. I like to exercise but haven’t in weeks 😩. I like baking and reading. I like doing art but I haven’t practiced in forever.
I was a gymnast in college but those days are over and never coming back! I have worked quite a bit overseas and my husband and I love to travel but that is on hold for now.
With a 13 month old at home my hobbies lately include organizing/cleaning out the house, yard work, and keeping the tiny human happy!
I love to hike and took my first mountaineering course in January in the White Mountains. Was hoping to take another in the Cascades this summer but since everything stopped due to COVID I figured it was good timing to try to get pregnant instead! I also enjoy traveling, indoor rock climbing, yoga and sewing. We also took up puzzles during quarantine!
My hobbies are cooking, hiking/camping, reading, and writing. I've made time for the first three this summer! Though it almost feels like cheating to list reading as a hobby, since I'm an English teacher and it's also my job... (Never fear, @cmoon3, if reading is something you love, you'll squeeze it in here and there as a mom!).
@manditchka24 that is so cool! The White Mountains are amazing.
@babymamadimo I grew up riding as well. We lived in the mountains and had horses on our property and competed in three-day eventing. Definitely something I miss, but too time-consuming to get back into if you keep your horse at home and do everything yourself, as we did growing up, and too expensive if you have other people taking care of your horse!

I used to be a bowler. I have a perfect game and they give a "diamond ring" for that achievement and a wind breaker! Lol I stopped when my son was 9 months we ended for the summer and then by fall I was pregnant with number two. Bowling alley was 45 mins from home so it just didn't seem worth it to try to continue w two littles. We just moved to Florida last April and this was gonna be the year we started again hubby and I but covid and a new baby has kiboshed that. I read quilt and sew as well. I've been making masks recently. I've never made a blanket quilt for my own kids thinking nows the time!
@Yiggle09 I love sewing but have zero time! It's a good thing a already have a stack of flannel blankets made from my girls to use 😂 my new favorite baby item to make is burp cloths. I recently got a surger to try a different method of finishing them
@Yiggle09 I just started making my first quilt with fabric I had laying around! I bought a sewing machine like 3 years ago and haven’t ever taught myself to do anything 🤦♀️.
@birdiejo Yay for your first quilt!!!! Let me know if you have any questions! My hobby is quilting (modern quilting in particular). I piece them on my machine at home and sometimes also do the quilting part on my little machine, though before the pandemic I was regularly renting a longarm machine (a massive sewing machine that does the final sewing part of quilts where you sew or ‘quilt’ all the layers together) and getting pretty proficient at it. I dream of one day buying a longarm (they’re $10k+) and making it into a business (lots of people choose to only make quilt tops and then send them off to a longarmer to quilt, since quilting can be difficult to manage with a small home machine).
I also love hiking and reading, though I’ve not had the energy for hiking lately.
I aspire to get into gardening, but so far I’m only good at buying plants and then killing them. Or planting them in places where moose eat them. 😬
Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one here with a non-green thumb! Haha!
What an excellent bunch! Totally second the volleyball group if we all weren't so scattered haha! Everyone has such an exciting array of hobbies & I'm inspired to bust out my sewing machines and try again haha! Puzzles also sound like an excellent COVID time passer.
I'm a competitive cosplayer with my best friend. We like to go a bit extra and over the top with our costumes and performances, and actually won a trip to Spain, which has been postponed due to COVID. We also run a cosplay podcast for S&Gs.
When I'm not sewing or otherwise crafting, I enjoy reading (self help and young adult fiction), Netflix, and video games.
I want to brush up on my cooking skills outside of using a gas grill, lol.
I had a hard time thinking of my hobbies since I really don’t feel like I have any. But I guess vegetable gardening is one. This is the first year I’ve kept all my plants alive. I don’t really have time to read but when I was still commuting I would listen to books on Audible in the car. Mostly YA fiction. (The last series I “read” was the Maze Runner series which is basically about a massive plague that hits earth 😳). I also like doing jigsaw puzzles but I’ve stopped that since we got cats and had a kid.
