threatened miscarriage?

I'm 27 and this is my first pregnancy. According to my app, I should be at 7 weeks currently. Well (tmi), me and my boyfriend were getting intimate and all of a sudden there's blood everywhere, like a horror movie. He took me to the bath tub, and I passed two giant clots. I was certain I miscarried so we went to the emergency room. However, the doctor said I was indeed 7 weeks and there was a heartbeat after I had an ultrasound. Is it still possible I am going to miscarry and just haven't fully yet? or can I assume since there was a heartbeat, I'll be ok? I've been doing physical labor since I just moved a couple days ago so maybe that did it but I don't feel like I can be totally happy yet cus I'm still confused. I see my obgyn on the 20th but may need to go sooner. Any expertise?

You could possibly have a subchronic hematoma....best advice call your doctor and get advice.  Its encouraging there was a HB in the ER.  We can not tell you what will happen, talk with your doc and go from there.

  • Heartbeat means your baby is/was still alive at the time.  As @harpseal135 said, I'd call your doctor and see what they recommend.  They may want to see you sooner, send you for hcg betas (although not sure if they'd do that since you already saw a heartbeat), and/or monitor you more closely.  Or, it could just be a subchronic hematoma and nothing to worry about, and they'll tell you to wait until your appt on the 20th.

    Good luck.

  • Honestly, it could go either way. You could ask your Dr to run betas to see if numbers are increasing like they are supposed to be.

  • It's possible you had a subchorionic hematoma which is basically a puddle of blood trapped between the placenta and the uterine wall. I had one with my previous pregnancy and it was scary. Call your doctor to get checked. That stuff does show up on an ultrasound with a knowledgeable tech.
