Exercise during pregnancy

How are you staying active?

I personally workout 5 to 6 days a week--
Some of my favorite exercise/workouts:
- Spinning
- HIIT
- Yoga
- Step aerobics
- Pilates
- Walking
- Weight training
- Barre

I'm 17 weeks + 4 days and I work out about a total of 6 to 7 hours per week with a decent balance between cardio and weights. I am always looking for new things to try and I'm curious as to what others are doing and enjoy. Thank you!!

I'm trying....and failing. So far I've mostly been doing walking (when it's not crazy hot out, which anymore is never), kayaking, and barre. I've never been that into yoga, but I should probably try it again and want to incorporate some light weight training. For the most part I'm trying to focus on low impact activities that work my core and get my strength up.

  • I try to get in a 45 minute cardio walk at least 5 days a week (or 30 mins on the elliptical if it's raining or too hot outside). I don't really like working out, but I'm trying to be better about it. Open to any other suggestions or programs that people recommend!

I typically do the elliptical for 40mins 5-6 days/week and then a couple mile walk 2-3 days/week. Would really like to start mixing it up and adding weights again.
  • I have been on bed rest for the past 4 weeks but just got to the okay to begin exercising again! I’m looking forward to being active again with some walking and Yoga/light barre workouts. I’m not comfortable going to my gym, and we don’t have any major equipment at home but normally I attend cycle and classes Pilates classes. I don’t want to do anything too intense until I’ve been back at for a few weeks because I need to ease back in.
  • @shelmcclel Glad you’re clear to resume exercise! Good luck easing back in.

Before pregnancy, I was crazy active - running, weight lifting, climbing, and playing Australian Rules Football. Obviously the last two are out of the equation now but I’m still trying to run at least a couple miles 2-3 times/week and do strength training or yoga a few times a week as well. It’s all stuff I can do from home, using resistance bands and body weight exercises.

I was just running and got really sore in my uterus area and had to stop. I’m wondering if it’s from things bouncing around now that I’m getting bigger. Has anyone else experienced that? It stopped when I stopped running and feels fine now.
  • I’ve downloaded the bloom method app and it’s amazing. Basically live classes for prenatal/postnatal and anything from weights to pilates to yoga to core etc! And walking every day!

@laurenspdx I'm not a runner, but years ago a friend of mine ran a 10k while ~5mo pregnant and I remember her talking about how sore she got. I think it was more the muscles in abdomen than her uterus, but she said it was weird and unexpected. You are carrying more weight up there than you're used to, so it makes sense
  • @akoros Ya I’ve definitely had sore abs too! It could all be related. I got a belly band and hope that helps. I’m not ready to give up running yet! I was hoping to get a couple more months in 😬
  • @tryingktogku That sounds awesome! I miss prenatal yoga. Is the app free?
  • @gingkomama it’s not unfortunately but if you sign up through their website right now there is a 30% off your first month promo!
  • I was walking 2-3 miles 4-5 days a week but my Peloton finally came in so I've been getting my workout that way. I'm #katherinebee if anyone else is on there and wants to add me!

This morning I had a meltdown bc i woke up feeling huge, swollen, and like I haven't had enough physical activity.  I used to frequent the gym, but I recently paused my membership due to covid in TX and don't see any return on the horizon.  Working out at home has never been easy for me, but I convinced MH to get on board with ordering a peleton, which he has previously resisted for many valid reasons.  I think he saw how I'm struggling and feeling frustrated by the combination of COVID and the summer heat.  For now I've been trying to do the pregnancy pure barre sessions but I'm really looking forward to the bike arriving now!!
