Re: 7.5 - 7.11 Weekly Randoms

  • I feel so dumb. I spent the day at my moms yesterday because they have a super nice backyard with a pool. I didn’t put on any sunscreen and I got so sunburnt! My thighs and chest are toast. I Was feeling light headed/dizzy so I chugged a bunch of water when we got home. Feeling better this morning, but still feeling dumb. I’m usually so careful with sunscreen and making sure I’m in the shade mostly, especially when pregnant. Ugh

It's so hot outside here.  I was outside for 10 minutes helping DH take down a canopy we had set up and I was sweating buckets by the time I came inside.  I feel like I waited forever for it to get warm in March and April and now that it's here I'm dying haha.

  • The heat is making me so exhausted. I always knew I wouldn't like being pregnant in summer... It's exactly as I thought it would be 😂
  • @gingkomama my son was born in August. It was triple digits for two weeks before he was born. 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Got scolded by my 3-year-old nephew for having difficulty putting his diaper on (they're trying to potty-train, but he had an accident while everyone else went out for a walk). He was incredulous that I didn't know what I was doing and that we didn't "have a baby at home". Apparently he'd also asked my husband about it the day before, so perhaps his parents told him that we're expecting and he doesn't quite understand just yet. I'm due right around his birthday, so they'll be holiday birthday buddies.

@gingkomama That's exactly why I skipped the walk with the rest of my in-laws. I normally like to join, but in this heat I don't want to do anything outside that doesn't involve water.
  • @bearmomma1 - I did the same thing on the one nice day of sunny weather last week.  I was half under an umbrella so it never occurred to me - and now I'm still paying the price  :s   Pregnancy sun sensitivity is no joke!
  • @bearmomma1 I was just coming here for the same thing! I never burn the way I did yesterday!

  • @the_road_to_oz Ahhhh that is my worst nightmare! I don't handle intense heat very well, and would be so miserable! You are a super mama for giving birth in that!!!
  • I definitely thought I was going to pass out before. I took my pressure and it said 97/66 but I sat down and ate and drank some water and was ok. My blood sugar was perfect. I feel ok now and checked baby’s heartbeat but if it happens again, I’m going to call my OB who will probably send me to L&D to get monitored. I’m going to give him a call in the morning if I feel ok through the night just to let him know and see if he wants me to come in.

Random question to put my dumb pregnant mind at ease...

My parents just told me they are putting in a pool next year and I'm so excited but then got instantly stressed with all the kid worries lol. My parents are pretty much the only people that watch my kids and they are very safe with them.

Next year I'll have a 3 year old, 2 year old and 6 month old. Pretty nerve-wracking for pool time! I just took my 2 and 1 year old swimming with my husband and we could barely keep up. Lol

I guess my worry is, as I'm mulling over all my crazy worries of what this pool could bring lol, is that if they watch the kids without me there that they will take them swimming on their own. That's so much to take on for grandparents and 3 kids that don't know how to swim. To be honest, I'd even be wary of them with just one.. bad things happen so fast! If anything were to happen, I want it on my watch, does that make sense?

Is it way crazy or overprotective of me to say I'd rather them not swim if my husband or i aren't present? At least during these very young years when all 3 can't swim. Thanks for any input! We don't go around pools much so this is a new worry for me lol. Going to put my 3 year old in lessons next summer though
  • @elmich3 the best thing is to put them all in lifeguard approved VESTS, not puddle jumpers. The ones that have to strap that goes between the legs so it doesn't ride up. If they're all in one of those (and I mean if they're outside at all they're in it) AND your parents are BOTH with them in the pool you're pretty good. If you're not comfortable then that's still OK of course but I recommend those. My son is 4.5 and after swimming with my Mom with that on for the last few years we finally started having him take it off and practice without it. It's been 4 weeks and he can lap the pool on his own and float on his back. It's amazing.
  • @willashbaby That is wonderful to hear! I really appreciate that advice! We will definitely invest in proper life vests for all kids next year. Any recommendations of the best places to buy those? I want to make sure we get the best.
  • @elmich3 any approved coastguard vest are all held to the same standards. I usually buy them at Costco at the beginning of the season. Just make sure they have the loop that goes between the legs. The ones for younger babies will also have the pillow in the back on the top for the back of the head. The ones that are the next step up won't and that's OK because you want them to do more in the pool.

@elmich3 ask them to get a fence around the pool, not just the perimeter of their yard.  We bought a house with a pool when DS was 1 and that before we started spending time outside we had a removable fence installed.  That way the kids can still play in the backyard without the additional worry of someone going in the pool without a life vest or adult.

@elmich3 I think you have every right to go with your gut feeling. But there are ways to make it as safe as possible! When my parents moved to a house with a pool and my nieces were 2/4, I was super worried. They put up a VERY good fence around the pool with crazy childproof locks, they also never let the girls out alone. My sister started the girls with swim lessons right away and now at 8/10 they have been swimming nearly their whole lives and are like fish!

I am thinking about getting an elliptical for my house. I need to get in some movement and walking out in the humidity is not an option. I had a cheaper at home one years ago and just hated it, because I always compared it to the gym ones. Does anyone have one they really like and would recommend? For me it’s important it is super stable and gives me options for increasing tension and incline (though I’m not sure if that’s an option with at homes). I’m willing to spend more, but really would prefer to stay below 2k.
  • This weather sucks. We’re getting hit with the tropical storm and are stuck in the house today and probably tomorrow too. It wouldn’t suck so bad if other days felt normal.

Has anyone ordered clothes from Latched Momma? I keep getting adds from them and the dresses look really comfy, but are a bit more then I’d like to spend.... BUT if I heard they were really great I might give it a try 😝
  • Anyone still use a Doppler? I really want to know if those “blip” sounds are baby moving but I can’t find anything on google with that description lol

  • @jchpg we have one made by golds gym. It’s comparable to the gym ones - not quite as study, but the stride length is similar and it’s pretty sturdy.

  • @jchpg I have! I only have their nursing shirts though, so I can't speak to their dresses. I probably have 4 nursing shirts from there.

@jchpg I have 8 rompers, and 3 swim pieces and 2 diaper bags from them. I'm obsessed. I'm planning to buy 3 more rompers and 3 more swim pieces next week. I live in them. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I justify the rompers by calculating the cost of pants and a top with nursing access, and they're not so bad then. The bst page is good, and Latched mama stuff gets good return if you sell it once you're done. They'll have a huge promotional event the first week of Aug for world breastfeeding week if you're still on the fence after my rave review..

  • @sejica. Thanks for the heads-up on the sale.  I have been looking at their stuff, but haven't pulled the plug yet.  Any ideas on sizing?  Just trying to think about what my body might look like later in pregnancy and afterwards (that sounds terrible, but my brain is too tired to figure out a better way to say it).

@dobiemom11 I'm 5'2 and 175lbs pre-preg, and 195 at delivery, 38H/I once my supply settles in. I only have their standard rompers, but will be buying petite now that it's available. I buy the L in their sized items - swim and jumpsuit. As for swim, it is maybe my favorite of their items, restocking next week and adding a long sleeve nursing rash guard. Their high waisted swim bottoms fit up over my section scars and bump, which us awesome. The rompers are easily pulled aside to pee, so you don't have to undress completely. I buy 12/14 XL normally in tops and 8/10 M/L in bottoms, but most people size down in latched mama. My friend who is a solid 18/20 fits the standard momper pp.

@elmich3 Like others said, get life vests and mandate that they be worn anytime the kids are even near the pool (even if they're not going in the water). Depending on the size of the yard you could insist that they wear them whenever they're in the yard. They should also be supervised at all times when they're outside. My in-laws live on a lake, so my SIL tells her kids that anyone under 18 has to wear a life vest while on the dock (the rest of the yard is up a big hill). That said, given that there's 3 of them it's not unreasonable to ask that they not take the kids into the pool without you present, at least for a year or two.
