GTKY: Team Green vs Find Out!

edited July 2020 in February 2021 Moms
An earlier discussion about NIPT results had me wondering: Are you team green (meaning you don’t want to find out the sex of the baby until birth) or are you planning to find out the sex beforehand?

Re: GTKY: Team Green vs Find Out!

  • We have one of each and my husband does not want to find out so I’m going with it. I normally would die over the anticipation but I think I can do it. Eeeee

  • I unintentionally found out with my first when I wanted to be team green, so I am team green at all costs this time around!
  • I hate surprises, so I want to find out as soon as it’s possible. My H doesn’t mind secrets and thinks it’d be fun to keep it a surprise, but I have to know and I fail at keeping secrets so I’d tell him immediately. With DS we wanted to go team green, but I decided to bail on that plan during the anatomy scan. 😂
  • @hannahbananas11 I am the exact same so I don’t know how I’ll survive honestly.
  • We found out with DS and only told family (or at least tried to... we let it slip with a few other people). This time we will find out and tell anyone who wants to know lol.

I don't want to find out, but my kids think the only babies born are girl babies, so it makes sense to find out and help prepare them.
  • We didn’t find out with my son which was 100% my choice so I told my husband that he gets to pick for baby #2, so as of now we will be finding out this time at the anatomy scan.
  • We didn’t find out for DS and we loved that moment finding out at birth so we are doing it again!!
  • We found out for both our previous kids and I'm 100% a planner so I'm not sure why I'm even considering being team green. I think part of me just thinks it would be cool to have that surprise the day of delivery. I'm 99% sure I'll cave and want to find out during the anatomy scan though.

  • I definitely want to know! Fingers crossed baby cooperates at the anatomy scan :).

I have heard of a blood test that can tell you very early on in pregnancy...is that an American thing maybe? I really wish I could find out right now lol!
  • We didn't find out with DS1 and I loved the surprise! My DH really wanted to find out with DS2 so we did and it was fun as well, although I still prefer to not know. This time around, we both want to find out. It's definitely our last and we'd both love a girl. I'd rather know and be prepared.
  • I like to plan and after the past year I think it is super important for our boys to know if it’s a little brother or sister to help this seem more real. Plus i don’t want to spend months arguing about a name we don’t even need 🤣
  • Plus i don’t want to spend months arguing about a name we don’t even need 🤣
Prior to getting pregnant I didn’t think I would want to know (no need to start gender stereotyping before they’re even born), but now I agree completely with @mdfarmchick! My husband wants to know, and I am a big planner so I think we might decide to find out, but still undecided for now. If we find out I’d rather not tell people....but I am sure I couldn’t keep it a secret!
  • I’m in the same boat as @birdiejo .. my husband is committed to waiting until birth but it’s going to be hard for me. I think I can do it though! We have one of each (we found out with both) and this is our last so it’s now or never!
  • @manditchka24 With both boys we found out and didn’t tell anyone for about a month with my oldest and almost two with my second ((we out at the NIPT with him and waited for the anatomy scan to confirm 😂)). Anyway I like have a few weeks where the only two who know are MH and I. That’s always an option.
  • I did PGS testing and decided to know the sex  :D

  • We were team green with our first - it was awesome. Found out with our second. We already have 2 boys so we want to know if this 3rd one is a boy too. I’m going to need 9 months to process that much energy running in our house 🤣
  • I just ordered the sneak peak gender test. We'll see if its accurate!!

  • We found out with our DD, but hubby is wanting to be Team Green this time! I think I’m on board with it and hope I can keep it that way during anatomy scan.
  • There is an old wives tale about heart rate being high (>140) or low (<140) indicating a girl or a boy, respectively.  Those with other kids - how'd that pan out for you?  It was accurate for my DD - I just checked back at what her HR was at our first ultrasound.

  • @Cats*in*space both my boys had heart rates that sat around 144 and never higher than 152. My friend’s with girls said they were 160-170. I know it’s not always true and have some friends with kids who didn’t match.
  • @Cats*in*space - According to our HR, Chinese Calendar, and Cardinal Number predictions, we're 100% having a girl, lol.  But DH and I are team Green, so I guess we'll find out in February! It's a cute random trivia, none the less!

  • @Cats*in*space my son had a really high hr my entire pregnancy...like 160s. We were team green and I wrote down about 20 wives tales on a piece of paper and took it to the hospital with us. It was about 70% girl 30% boy and man were they wrong! My gut said boy and that was the correct wives tale haha
  • @WildMagelet me too! 100% girl and also team green

  • My NIPT labs are processing!  Super excited to learn so early!

  • We are definitly finding out! I asked for the NIPT but apparently they do them at 15 weeks here, and then it could take up to 14 days for the result so I'm like UGHHHHHH i would like to know now. I really wanted to do the at home sneak peek test but I was nervous that it would be wrong and that would be more stressful than just waiting, haha!
  • @PinkKathryn12 I ordered the sneak peak test and it took forever to get to me and then I waited like 3 days to actually do the test and once they got it they said they weren't able to get results fromy sample. They're shipping me another one but I'll probably have results fromy doctor by the time I get them.

that just sounds too stressful to me. im secretly openly hoping for a girl so I didn't awnt to be crushed with wrong results LOL
  • @tamalahoops
Oh how frustrating!! fingers crossed you hear soon either way
  • Is anyone doing a fun gender reveal? I want to do something special for either just me and my husband or just us and our close family via zoom. I don't particularly want to do confetti because I don't want to clean it up.

  • @tamalahoops for my DS, I knew the sex (not by choice) and revealed to my husband with one of those colored smoke bombs. No clean up and would be easy to do via Zoom for family if you wanted.
  • @tamalahoops we were team green the first time but plan to find out this time so I want to do something fun. We think we will find out for ourselves at the ultrasound and then FaceTime our families and have our son tell them the gender somehow. Maybe even just a cupcake with blue or pink in the middle. My mil might faint with joy if it’s a girl HAHAHAHA we are all convinced we will have all boys though.
