I feel like getting a little nostalgic today.

What's one (or multiple!) ultra popular toy you had as a kid? What popular toys did you have absolutely no interest in?

Love this!!!
I had so many cabbage patch dolls and pound puppies!! Also beanie babies (which we all sore would be worth so much years later), POGS, and Trolls, as well as Barbies!

I can't think of anything right now that I didn't have interest in that was popular for girls back in the day.

oh cute!  i had a collecting problem with beanie babies (like @kpearse99), also polly pockets and pokemon cards!

We were also collectors of beanie babies! My first one was bought at a Hallmark store and was the caterpillar  I think my parents kept all our Polly Pockets (the originals! none of that small figurine stuff that they have now).

We also had the Light Bright, Etch-A-Sketch, Yak Bak, Tomagochis (butchering spelling here) and GigaPets. My sister and I both had Doodle Bears, and my brother had Pogs and those ninja stick things (you know, where you're holding the 2 sticks and twirling this larger baton thing with them). Plenty of Barbies too. Oh! and Sky Dancers! Thankfully none of us either got hit in the eye with them haha.

Anyone else also own a crimper? 

We DEFINITELY had no interest in owning Furbies.

@inthewoods23 oh yes, Tamagochis!! Man, I loved that thing! And I had a Furby! Also, I owed a crimper then and I STILL own one now!! It has 3 different sized plates so I've mostly just used it for waves but I did need to crimp my hair a few years ago for an 80's musical I was in haha

@inthewoods23 omg i had Furbies.  they were the *hot* toy the year i made my first communion and we were out to lunch after and i got like 3 as gifts, put batteries in and they were making their noises in the restaurant.  my parents must have been mortified.

HOW DID I FORGET BARBIES! SO MANY BARBIES!! i had a crimper. and Tamigotchis!

I had tamigotchis, a crimper, Barbies, and a lot of Lisa Frank stuff. No interest in pogs, beanie babies, or furbys.  I loved playing the Sims too when I was in middle school and minesweeper

Oh this is fun! I had Barbies, an American Girl Doll (I had Samantha and my sister had Molly), and beanie babies! 

I'll second @inthewoods23 with the extreme lack of interest in furbies! So creepy!!

@kpearse99 My dad had a MASSIVE BB collection. I’m talking 5-54 gallon totes with tag protectors, in zip loc bags, labeled. He was convinced he’d become a millionaire.

@asf0613 I loved my Polly Pockets, probably more than my barbies!

@inthewoods23 oh, that’s a good list! Loved my doodle bear and tamigotchi! I reset that thing so many times. 🤣 Litebrite wasn’t always a hit at sleepovers!

I really liked Webkinz, the stuffed animal that came with an online code to play with your pet on their website. I probably had at least 5 or 6. Was also never into furbies. Too creepy!

This is a good one! I had Barbies, American Girl Dolls, Cabbage Patch Kids, My Little Ponies (the old school ones, not these new ones), Pound Puppies, Care Bears, and Popples. Does anyone else remember Popples? I might be totally dating myself here. I tried to find a Popple gif, but couldn't!

I would say I was, and still am to an extent, obsessed with American Girl Dolls. I have 11 of them with a bunch of accessories. I have all of them in a giant tub in storage now waiting to pass them down. 

I was also into furbies, tamagotchis, beanie babies and barbies but none as much as AG dolls. 

I also totally loved the Skip It and Bop Its. 

I never got into Pokemon. I had a brief stint with Pokemon Go but it didn't last more than a couple weeks and I think I was like 27 at that point.

@krash_ do you have a favorite AG doll? Do you like the newer ones or the OGs? I have very strong feelings on the state of the American Girl Dolls.  Like I have literally had debates with my students about this. 

Anyone else remember Wuzzles? They were animals that were a cross of different species. Bumblelion was a a bumble bee-lion, Butterbear was a butterfly-bear, Hoppopotamus was a rabbit-hippo...you get the idea. Now that I am an adult and I look back on that show/toy, there's some pretty disturbing implications there!

@krash_ I have a bin of American Girl dolls too!! Just was never willing to part with them, there must be somewhere around 8-10 at my parents house!

@_orchid_  your comment about the sims made me remember how much I used to love Zoo Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon! 

i also had a million barbies and beanie babies. Stuffed animals in general we’re my “thing” as a kid. My room was FULL of them!

@krash_ we never had American Girl dolls but I definitely DREAMED about having one and all the cute accessories. Also Skip-It and Bop It were my jams! I think the 90s was when it was like "now with counter!!!" on the Skip It. In fact, my aunt challenged my mom to a Skip It battle during our wedding reception. Both failed miserably, and my aunt had been the one to buy them and had all the practice!

@inthewoods23 a skip it challenge during your reception sounds amazing!! That would instantly make your wedding a top 3 for me if I were a guest. So much fun!! I bet it was hysterical to watch!

@emeraldduchess POPPLES!!! YES!!  I apparently still had one in my bedroom at my parents house and my niece found it. She was so excited when I told her she could have it!!  I also used to love the Wuzzles!

@inthewoods23 OMG Skip It! My mom wouldn't let me get one. I think she was afraid I would hurt myself. She was (and still is) very over-protective.

@_orchid_ my aunt (same one) also did a hula hoop challenge with my cousin.

Backstory - a bunch of us from my mom's side had gone on an Alaska cruise and we participated in a game one night. At the end of it, they had this bonus game of a hula hoop competition. My male cousin and aunt ended up being the last male and female to be hula hooping. From there they did a competition between the 2 of them by adding more hula hoops. My cousin ended up winning it all and became King of the Ship (crown included) and he led the YMCA dance some other day towards the end of the trip.

We did the same hula hooping with multiple hoops with the winner at the wedding getting a cheap plastic trophy I bought at a party store It was planned with my aunt to give her the edge to win at the wedding so she had practiced for a few months before coming to the wedding. My cousin, on the other hand, hand NO idea we were going to do this. My aunt STILL lost.

@inthewoods23 😂 your family sounds like so much fun!! Is your aunt the mother of that cousin? I love that she practiced and he still beat her!! Best wedding prep ever!!

@_orchid_ lol no they aren't mother and son. We had quite a few special/unique bits to our wedding.

Might make another good GTKY - what was uncommon about your wedding.

@krash_ that's amazing that you had so many AG dolls! I had Felicity and loved her My neighbors across the street had Molly and Kit (we each had the respective hair colors of our dolls) and we could play for HOURS! Did you play with the dolls or were they more for display?

+1 to polly pocket, easy bake oven, and beanie babies, too. My brother was into pokemon a bit when we were younger so I loved that for a bit, too (cards, tv show, but mostly the gameboy game).

@kvh22 I had Felicity, too! She was my favorite. I also had Kirsten and Samantha. The deal my parents made with me was that I had to read the books if I got the dolls.  I have the doll clothes in a bin in my basement, but I can't find the dolls themselves. How weird is that?

@emeraldduchess oh no! Somewhere at your parents' maybe? All of my Felicity stuff is at my mom's, still. I moved after graduation with 2 suitcases and shipped my POS car with a box or two of stuff but that obviously didn't make the cut. It's a 5hr flight so not going to get it back until we move back to the east coast (which is kind of in the works but delayed likely with covid while my husband is too busy to do much job searching).

i had Samantha because well, i am a "samantha" i think lol.  its funny now that my nieces are into American Girl dolls.  i still have all my things that i'm saving

@kvh22 I played with all of them! I would dress my cat up in their clothes (she hated it  ) and I would undo and redo their hair all the time. They are pretty ratty looking now but I'm ok with that. I do have one that is probably worth like $500. She was the first American Girl Doll of the Year in 2001 but most of them, even the retired ones, are only probably worth $50-100 so I'm definitely going let my kids play with them.

I still have my Molly AG doll! Her hair is a hot mess but you can actually send your doll in to the AG "hospital" for a complete head/hair transplant, I am sure it isn't cheap but I may do it at some point.
