This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained IF, unexplained RPL, AMA, possible low progesterone, ovaries prone to shenanigans. 

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): I *think* tww? FF is showing me crosshairs earlier than it should because I still had dark OPKs over the weekend. My BBT also plummeted yesterday and today, so who knows.Today was the first day it was clearly negative. It's either an an-O cycle (noooo!!!) or I just didn't get a blazing + OPK. That's pretty common for me though. So I am just going to start progesterone today and hope for the best. SMH.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): OPKs, checking CM, HIO, BBT, hoping for a miracle.

How are things going?: OK. Had my last day of virtual school on Friday and I am cleaning out my classroom this week. I've already applied for several jobs for the fall, but I don't expect to hear anything about interviews for a few more weeks. Where I live interviews and job postings don't usually pick up until July/August. I'm also looking at jobs outside of education because so many towns are facing budget cuts. As far as IVF, we can press "go" as soon as we find out the outcome of this cycle, but I'm nervous that there will be a huge back-log and we'll have to wait a long time for ER/genetic screening/FET.

GTKY: how many countries have you visited? 7, I think. I'm not really a big traveler. That and travel is ridiculously expensive when school is out, which is the only time I can travel. $1000+ per person for 1 flight? Nope.

How are things going?: I'm feeling ok, less excited and attached to this transfer overall, I think it's TTCAL-related. Last time I was more emotional and connected. I'm going to try to keep busy again, I was contemplating reorganizing my home office space, but on further reflection I may skip that. This is the room MH wants to be a future nursery so that might be a little too charged for me now. I thankfully have a lot going on with work, so that's a good distraction regardless.

GTKY: how many countries have you visited? It's pretty sad, I've only visited 3! Canada, England, and Scotland!

How are things going?: things are alright. I still seem to have that lingering bleh feeling. Like I just haven't been really happy in a while. Maybe I'm doing a better job at just slowing life down and not getting so uptight about messes and what not.

Only 5 countries - Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman (or Cayman Islands?), and Iceland.

How are things going?: not bad, I guess. Just hanging in there, trying to get caught up at work (as usual lol). And hoping for a better count for tomorrow’s iui

@emeraldduchess Congrats on being done with school, FX you get some good job leads, I think expanding the search is a great plan. Yay for being able to pull the trigger with IVF, and FX there isn’t a crazy backlog.

@mvt2003 Sorry that TTCAL is making it hard for you to feel excited. I think avoiding that room for now is probably a good plan. Crossing everything so hard for you.

@inthewoods23 I relate to the lingering bleh. This has definitely been one of the hardest three months or so for me emotionally. But here’s hoping things get better for all of us soon!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Did repeat AMH/FSH testing on CD2 plus prolactin and infectious diseases and carrier testing for IVF.

How are things going?: Okay I guess. I'm feeling impatient and ready to get going with IVF so having another "natural" month to repeat testing seems like a waste of time. The nurse did call to say my prolactin levels are totally fine though so at least that's one less obstacle. 

Any questions?: The nurse also indicated that I will do my HSG in between my ER and FET, which I guess means they won't do a fresh transfer. Is that the more common practice now? I have been doing some research and it seems kind of 50/50 on whether they do or don't. 

GTKY: how many countries have you visited? Greece, Turkey, UAE, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic. Some Caribbean cruise ports too.

@legallykate what in the world is in Greenland??? DH just told me there's a new geothermal spa place in Iceland opening up next year so of course we're like, let's start making plans! lol. Regarding transfers, I believe there has been some evidence that frozen transfers are more successful than fresh transfers, but likely not by much. The better success with frozen could be because those embryos have the opportunity to be tested to check if it is abnormal or not. With fresh you're going in blind.

@legallykate I thought everyone had to do the HSG first, but I can see if DOR is a concern, the primary goal is to get the embryos created as quickly as possible. My clinic did a fresh transfer for me, but I wasn't PGS testing (which in hindsight I wish I had...) and I think fresh transfers are one of my clinic's go-tos because I've seen others who go there doing them first. If I had done the genetic testing, freezing would have been necessary.

@inthewoods23 @mvt2003 That makes sense, we said we did want the embryos tested, so that makes sense if that takes longer (I wasn't sure if they could do that in the like 5 days or whatever).

@legallykate Nope, the genetics can take up to 2 weeks to come back depending on the lab, and if you consider it this way, you have to wait until they make it to Day 5 to test them anyway, so you don't have those 5 days to test the cells. I've already told MH if we have to do a second cycle, we're paying OOP for the genetic testing.

How are things going?  IUI was on Saturday.  Doc said everything looked good on both ends.  Now just waiting to test on the 27th.
Any questions? How about suggestions to occupy myself during TWW.  I'm on summer break as a teacher, and I've been going crazy with nothing to do.

@legallykate my clinic only gave me the option of a frozen transfer, probably because I am AMA and have a history of loss, so they strongly recommended PGS testing. I know what you mean about being impatient to get started!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Letrozole (5mg), IUI, and Progesterone. Testing this coming Monday!  

How are things going?: Going pretty well!! Work has been super crazy still but it has helped keep my mind off things during the TWW! I’m still hopeful for this cycle, but I’m also not going to be too surprised if it isn’t a success...my RHR is doing wonky things again this cycle, which it has done the past several failed cycles! Nothing I can do about it though, just have to wait and see. 

Any questions?: None right now. 

GTKY: how many countries have you visited? Only 3...Australia, New Zealand, and Chile! Hoping we can take a trip to/through Europe in the next few years and add several more countries! 

@emeraldduchess yay for your semester being over! Hopefully you hear back about some jobs (in or out of the school system) before too long! Sorry your cycle is being a bit confusing...hope you get some clarity soon, and that this is your cycle! That’s great that you have the go-ahead for IVF if not though! 7 countries is a lot for not being a big traveler! ☺️

@mvt2003 I’m sorry you don’t feel as attached this time, but that totally makes sense to protect your heart in that way! AL brain sucks! I feel ya on the work distractions keeping your mind off things...I think that sounds good to hold off on reorganizing! I hope you will be setting up that room as a nursery so soon!

@legallykate I hope you get the rest of your results back quickly and that all looks good! I’m sorry that you feel like this is a wasted cycle...but you never know! I hope this cycle flies by and you will be starting your ER cycle before you know it...but of course I hope even more that you are a unicorn and this is your cycle!! 

@sesshomarumom glad your IUI went well! No insight on making the TWW go faster, other than just trying to keep yourself busy if possible! Maybe start a craft project, small home improvement project, or  read a book?

@mvt2003 I would agree that the way you're feeling after this go around for the FET is probably TTCAL related. It makes sense, in my opinion, that your brain and heart just aren't letting you get as excited this time around because you're protecting yourself as much as you can. I hope you've found some good distractions so far to keep this week moving!! When do you test??

Diagnosis (if you've been): Secondary Unexplained IF

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): Ummm... I'm really not sure. You all know my OPKs have been crazy this whole cylce, but I stopped doing them a week ago because I just felt like it was pointless.

I'm on CD 40 and I had fertile CM from about Wednesday of last week thru Monday so maybe I O'd late? But I also have a feeling this may be an an-O cycle. 

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Just trying on our own

How are things going?: As @emeraldduchess put it... "Hoping for a miracle!"

I found out the other day that work is switching insurance companies (again) and that this new carrier doesn't cover ANY fertility treatments.    My current one covers unlimited IUIs but no IVF, so I at least had that, and this new one doesn't cover anything. DH's insurance is crazy expensive and my plans offer so much better coverage so that's not an option really either. So I guess that's the end of that and we'll just be on our own from here on out. Sigh. It sucks, but it is what it is. Maybe this is the last "kick" that I needed to push me fully into the "I just don't care what happens anymore" phase.

Any questions?: Am I allowed to still stay here with you ladies in this thread if I'm not doing anymore treatments?!

GTKY: how many countries have you visted? I've done a lot more travel in the US than out but I have been to Canada, The Dominican, Bermuda, Puerto Rico (does that count?) and St. Martin

@SesshomaruMom glad your IUI went well, I don't have any specific tips for staying busy through the TWW. I usually intend to wait for AF or 14dpo but often fail 

@legallykate yeah we also did our HSG before any treatment so it's interesting that they're doing yours after your egg retrieval and everything. I hated the "testing" cycle as well- felt like a waste of time. hope the time flies by, or even better, that you end up not needing it at all!

Thanks everyone! The IUI went well, H's counts were *much* better ("excellent" per the RE), so I'm feeling a little more hopeful. Trying not to get my hopes up too much, though. So hopefully I can survive the TWW lol

@manillabar Insurance switches over on July 1st so there wouldn't be time to get another IUI in. I did think about it though! Even if AF arrived tomorrow there wouldn't be enough time... and she has no sign of showing up anytime soon. That's great news about YH's count this time around!!

@kpearse99 Sorry about your insurance! That really sucks. I'm getting to a point where I'm like, these presidential candidates better make fertility coverage mandatory. Like why TF do we have to pay a bajillion dollars for a mere chance at having a kid, meanwhile, people who probably shouldn't be getting pregnant are getting pregnant with ease like all it takes is looking at somebody.

@manillabar yay for good numbers! I always try my hardest to not care at all when it's 2-5 days past O/IUI because obviously it's not possible to be pregnant at that point. That last week though, that's the real test of endurance in getting to beta day.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):
Another IUI with a higher dose of Clomid, Ovidrel, and progesterone suppositories. 

How are things going?:
I’ve been swamped with work this week after one boss being out all last week and the other being out this week.
I was upset and frustrated about starting this cycle. I talked to my RE about progesterone and she wasn’t concerned about changing it. She just increased the Clomid dose. She’s hoping to have several eggs that will ovulate this time. My ultrasound is Saturday morning to see how they’re growing. When I’d scheduled the baseline appointment I’d asked if they could have the IVF estimate for me to look at (knowing that my RE’s suggestion if this IUI doesn’t work that we move to IVF) so that DH and I are prepared for the cost. It’s been a week since the appointment now and I still don’t have that estimate. So I’m frustrated about the business office side of my RE’s practice. 

I’m having symptoms to the higher dose of Clomid like I did 2 years ago. Hot flashes and headaches. I was surprised last cycle and back in Feb when I didn’t have these side effects.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some good, credible articles about IVF. I feel like I’m about to become a science teacher explaining it to DH and our parents. They still see IVF as something you hear about, but don’t know anyone who has done it. I hate that IF is such a taboo subject in society.

@thegirlwhowaited_ I'm sorry you're having a not-great experience with your RE's practice. I know it's not always an option, but have you considered looking at another practice? It ultimately comes down to your own preferences, and there's no shame in looking for a new physician if you're not having your needs met. I also have had to explain IVF to MH and various other family members, it's not always fun. I know for my practice, we had to watch a series of videos about the IVF process before we started our first cycle, MH learned a lot through that, and I filled in any gaps.

@kpearse99 I'm so sorry about the insurance! I can relate to that feeling, even though mine was due to a choice to leave my current job. Are you guys open to IVF? There are a fair amount of grants out there, as well as clinical trials you might look into. Just a thought. I really thought we were going to be stuck once I lost my insurance, and then this trial popped up. Sending good vibes your way that you find a path that works for you! Also, if it matters, I vote that you should stay in this thread if you want to.

Diagnosis (if you've been): AMA, blocked tube 

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):  my hysteroscopy and mock transfer are Friday. We are waiting on official lab results to confirm we're accepted into the trial (they did an unofficial AMH on me to make sure I was in range, but the trial needs to check it themselves. Also we had to have Genetic Carrier Screening completed. I have already been tested, so no matter what MH's results are, we'll be okay on that one. But it takes about 2 weeks for those results to come back, so nothing will be official until probably next week). 

How are things going?: Pretty good so far. I still live in fear that they will find something crazy that will knock us out of the trial. Yesterday the nurse called to update me that our STD panel results had come back. I thought it was weird that she called instead of emailing me, because she's been emailing to this point. Then she said "So...(dramatic pause)... we tested for HIV, hep B, hep C, syphilis and gonorrhea. And your husband *DID* ...(yes she emphasized the word) test negative for all of those. Then she did the same thing for my results! I was like, lady, someone needs to teach you about how to deliver scary news!

GTKY: how many countries have you visted? 21. I have lived overseas a few times, so that definitely helped the count go up.

@legallykate thanks, friend! I’m telling myself that the lower RHR now is due to getting healthier and so that’s why it seems oddly low for post-O 🤷🏼‍♀️

@shoogapoff Hope all is well today with the Hysteroscopy & mock transfer! Sorry for the nurse’s delivery of that good news—how scary! *Im so curious about your 21 countries. That’s awesome. 

@thegirlwhowaited_ I’m sorry your workweek has been so crazy. I can relate completely. Hang in there! And sorry your RE’s office has been less than responsive. You may want to switch before undergoing IVF; I switched doctors when I had that same feeling about my first RE. 

@manillabar FX for a successful IUI result! So great that YH’s Numbers improves so much. 

@kpearse99 OMG, I’m so sorry about the insurance!! That is a real blow. You seem to be taking it ok, but I’d be blowing a freaking gasket. Like @mvt2003 said, I’d be up in HR losing my s*** if necessary. (Not sure that could accomplish anything, but hey, you never know!) On a different note, the backup clinic I’m using, CNY Fertility, has multiple locations &!a set out-of-pocket cost of $4700 for IVF. You can do monitoring with your local doctor & then go to CNY only for egg retrieval & transfer. Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk more. My inbox is always open.

@SesshomaruMom Sorry, no real advice here for keeping busy during the TWW. When you’re teaching during the school year is there anything you feel like you have to put off till the summer when you have more time? That’s the thing I’d spend my time on. 

@legallykate Sorry for the frustration of waiting for more testing. That’s the killer thing about IF: there is SO. MUCH. WAITING!! But honestly, your treatment plan seems to be moving extremely quickly compared to most of us here. Your doctor seems to be pretty committed to getting you what you want ASAP. Hang in there with the testing!

Whew, that took me forever to respond to everyone’s updates above! Gonna try to bang this out real quick lol. 

Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, Elevated NK Cells & Activity(resolved, FX!), blood-clotting disorders, AMA 

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW I think! 

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Letrozole again (since my RE could monitor this time at the last second). Just did another IUI 2 days ago, going to increase my prednisone after O is confirmed to try to minimize any potential inflammation & increasing my dose of PIO, hoping to see if increased meds leads to any success; also following Gluten- Sugar- Dairy-free diet.

I’ve taken on more work to pay for extra rounds of IVF & embryo testing, but I’m very stressed & getting little sleep so need to find more balance if this whole TTC is going to work. Also, I knew that we were doing the IUI a bit early (probably 2 days early) because my OPKs hadn’t even started to turn yet. But I got in where they could fit me into their schedule. My lining was at 8mm & there were 2 follicles. We did the HCG trigger shot after the IUI. But then I forgot to temp the next morning to confirm O—I could slap myself! I got a high temp this morning but FF won’t give me CHs no matter how many high temps I put in for the coming days with that missing temp from yesterday. 

Any questions?: For those of you who’ve done Letrozole or Clomid for IUI: how many follies do you usually see? We saw one that was 22mm and another that was 18mm when we did the IUI. I wasn’t sure if 2 was normal, low number, or what?

GTKY: how many countries have you visited? 4, I think: Italy, Mexico, Thailand, Puerto Rico (does a US territory count?🙂)

@keikilove haha "wham bam thank you husband" just hasn't been our theme for this cycle of HIO. We were careful not to make ourselves go raw and we did it at reasonable hours of the day! Lol regarding the Letrozole... The first IUI I had 2 developing, but 1 eventually shrunk. My other 2 IUIs there was only 1 growing. They had me on 5mg a day. I think clomid develops more follicles but I think we've had some ladies here end up with more follicles come trigger day.

Thank you for the response re: Letrozole. I was also on 5mg/day. Your answer makes me feel normal & confident that it was the right move to at least try it.

@keikilove on all of my IUI’s I’ve seen 1-2 that were large enough to ovulate. But this time my RE is hoping to see 3. *TW* my very first IUI I had 2 large, 17mm and 18mm, on the left and that cycle was successful. *End TW* The past two IUI’s I’ve done this year I had 1 large on the right and last time I had a large on each side.

@mvt2003 I really like my doctor it’s just the business side. I also like that my RE and OB are best friends so they actually communicate.

@keikilove thank you for the info friend! I am fighting with HR on this! I’m not expecting much to come from it but I can’t give up without pushing back, ya know? That’s so great you were able to be monitored this cycle!! When I was on letrozole I had 2-3 matured follies ready to go. Clomid only gave me one.

@keikilove so glad you were able to do an IUI this cycle!! Fingers crossed so hard that timing ended up being perfect! The past two cycles being monitored with Letrozole, I’ve had 2 dominant follicles. I haven’t been monitored later to see if they would both reached maturity to release though. I hope you can find that balance with working...you need sleep!! 

AFM, I got a stark white BFN this morning. I pretty much knew it was coming after a drop in RHR yesterday morning, but it’s still hitting me hard! I’m just so over all of this! I may take a step back from here for a couple days (although work has been forcing that anyways lately). But @mvt2003 I’ll be thinking about you and sending you so many positive vibes! Hoping for the absolute best news ever from you!! 💜💜💜
