Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
Rant/rave? I was finally able to feel baby move this past week! Baby jabbed my left side 3 times in a row and then I felt a somersault afterwards. But my rant is that I only really really felt it that one morning... I think I may have felt a little bit yesterday but it was so faint it was hard to tell. I’ve been laying around quietly during different times of the day to see if I can feel anything else but not much luck since. 😔
Questions? I guess my question is, is that common to feel baby move some days and other days not so much? Especially only around 19 weeks? I know in 3rd trimester I’ll feel baby a ton more, I’m just curious if this is normal or that maybe I have an anterior placenta 🤷🏼♀️
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in. Well it’s a town in the middle of Iowa. Not super big, not super small. I grew up in the country outside of it on an acreage but went to school in town, and boy do I miss country living! (DH and I may buy an acreage someday since we are both country/farm kids and miss it so much). People that live there now say what a shithole it’s turned out to be, and my family agrees for the most part. Lots of not-good people live there now, but there has always been that part of town so I’m not sure why it’s become so bad all over town in recent years. But my family and my best friend still live there so it’s not that much of a shithole to me! And my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in the woooorld is still there and I’m craving it so bad 🤤
@mamahosch I think it’s perfectly normal. I have days where I feel movement and then others where I don’t. Sometimes I think I feel it but I’m also walking or doing something so then I’m unsure. I don’t have an anterior placenta this time around. Also the baby moved so much during my sonogram and I felt none of it.
How far along are you? 19 + 3
Due date? 10/16
Upcoming appointments? Mid June. Appts are back to normal at my clinic
Rant/rave? Rave: I’m finally felling well enough to be active again. It was kind of annoying to not being to exercise without feeling like death.
Questions? So super random, anyone else lactate this early before? Or heard of anyone has? I had some leakage yesterday and googled it and read it can happen. I sent an email to my Ob but I doubt I’ll hear back from her today.
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in.
i lived in a big city but compared to where I live not it’s a much smaller city. I thought we had traffic there but it’s nothing compared to traffic here. I knew a lot people in my neighborhood and went to a great school.
Rant/rave? Not really a rant/rave, but feeling lots of emotions lately. I'm getting energy back so starting to catch up with the rest of the world in feeling super stir crazy, and I'm feeling pretty devastated not being able to go on our annual Memorial Day Weekend trip. Having some anxiety and jealousy issues not really showing and not being able to feel baby, and I'm feeling like I need the reassurance of the anatomy scan to see that little one is doing okay. (I also think the emotional hormonal days I missed during 1st trimester are catching up with me!)
Questions? Anyone else still sporting a bump like a heavy lunch?
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in. Until I was seven I lived in suburban Minnesota and spent all my time in the woods around my house. After that I moved every year or two. My current home is the longest I've lived anywhere, and we're moving this summer!
@babycakesday, I started leaking last week. One day it was enough to see through my shirt. This is my first pregnancy and the first time it’s happened so early.
Me: 27 DH: 27 Married 6/15/13 BFP #1 5/8/16, EDD 12/31/16- DD born 9/10/16 at 24 weeks ~In our hearts forever~ BFP #2 10/14/17, EDD 7/1/18
@mamahosch definitely normal with the movement (albeit frustrating)! I just started feeling regular movement in the last 2-3 days, and by regular I mean a few times a day, still not the hourly stuff I expect late in 2nd tri. @babycakesday I leaked through most of 3rd tri last time but nothing yet this time although I can definitely tell my boobs are prepping. 😳 @amapa20 I feel like my bump still looks like I ate a big lunch too. DH tells me I "look pregnant" but I think he's just being nice.
How far along are you? 18+5
Due date? 10/21
Upcoming appointments? 6/8 for AS
Rant/rave? Rant--DD has been super defiant this week. She isn't even 2 yet. I'm not ready for this! I'm tired, grumpy, and my patience has been so thin. Rave--feeling good movement the last few days! Lots of rolling sort of feelings. Nothing I can feel on the outside yet.
Questions? Nope.
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in. Small city in Indiana--about 120,000 people (I just googled it). Great place to grow up. Low cost of living and still enough to do in my opinion. Went away to college, back to my hometown for the first few years of medical school at a satellite branch of the main school, then to the big city to finish up school and residency. Been here 5 years now. DH and I both accepted jobs in our hometown when we are done with fellowship training and will be moving back in summer 2022. Almost my whole family is there and DHs brother (and his family) still lives there.
@amapa20 With my first pregnancy, I didn't feel any movement until sometime after 20 weeks even with a posterior placenta. I also didn't have much of a bump until after 20 weeks. I went a good portion of my pregnancy without being obviously pregnant. My baby was healthy. The anatomy scan did make me feel a lot better during my first pregnancy because it confirmed that there was actually a baby in there because I really didn't feel or look pregnant.
@mamahosch I agree that what you described sounds normal at this point in pregnancy. When I first started feeling baby move during this pregnancy, I would feel her move one day and then go several days without feeling any movement. Now, the movement is starting to become more consistent.
How far along are you? 19 weeks 3 days
Due date? 10/16
Upcoming appointments? 6/2 (anatomy scan)
Rant/rave? DS is being super sweet. He keeps giving me little kisses and hugs while saying, "I love you, Mom."
Questions? nope
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in.
I grew up in a rural area with lots of farms. However, it was close to the suburbs, and it was within a 30 minute drive to a big city. The area where I lived was so small that nobody seemed to know that it existed. It was usually thought to be part of one of the surrounding towns.
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in - Nothing to exciting to day. I lived about 15 mins outside of a fairly large city but we rarely went into town. It was a fun place to grow up with a lot of kids, but as the years went on it became a little dangerous so I was happy my parents moved.
@amapa20 it’s okay and normal to feel that way. I go through a bunch of different emotions. Just remember it’s all normal at this point. Babies are all different sizes and do different things. I always have moments of questions if she’s moving and then I remember with both my anatomy scans for both kiddos they moved so much and I felt zero of it. So they’re moving even if we don’t always feel it. Thursday will be here before you know it!
@carrotsandpeas3 DD is almost 4 but she’s going through another defiant phase too! I wonder if it’s just because of quarantine. Just stay strong and it’ll pass. I’ve been struggling with my patience for what feels like the last four weeks.
@babycakesday I wouldn't describe what I'm experiencing as lactating, but my nipples seem somewhat "oily," like they're secreting a little bit of something.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@kboydbowman Yeah mines definitely lactating. The first time I noticed a quarter size wet spot on my shirt. The second time I felt it get wet and when I gave it a good squeeze I released some milky white liquid. I keep reading it’s normal and it happens just not something that happened the first time around.
@babycakesday everyone I know talks about it getting worse from ages 2-4, so I'm terrified if she's already this defiant at 21 mos. Also, she's back in daycare so who knows about quarantine effect. I'm just trying not to let her age be an excuse to walk all over me but also balance the fact that she is so young and hard to effectively communicate with. It's tough. And also, I'm pregnant and tired. 🤷
@carrotsandpeas3 DD started at about her age. It goes in phases. Some times they’re super defiant and other times they’re the sweetest. I think her age is so hard because they can’t communicate 100%. By the time you get to 3-4 the issue is they hate being told no when they express exactly what they want. You’re doing a great job and she isn’t walking all over you. If you’re trying that’s already a huge thing. I’ve nannied kids before that have zero boundaries and they get worse and worse as they go through this age.
Upcoming appointments? Hopefully my A/S soon, everything is tied up right now, hoping to get my provider switch finalized this week and then make the MFM appointment
Rant/rave? My breast pain is beyond anything. I feel like I have a clogged duct, I've had a clogged duct before and I swear this is the exact pain, swelling, everything. I didn't start getting colostrum leaks until late third trimester last time and now this at 18/19 weeks seems absolutely excessive coupled with the amount of leakage at night. So yes @babycakesday definitely lactating over here.
Questions?
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in. I wasn't lucky enough to have a hometown in my childhood, by the time I was 3 I'd been uprooted 4 different times to different states and I never went back to any of the places I lived as an adult 🤷
@mamahosch more sporadic movement seems to be more common than not with the anterior placenta crowd. It's disappointing after having consistent every day strong movement by this time with my last. The kicks are picking up though, hopefully they pick up for you as well soon, even a few days can make a difference.
Thanks ladies, you are all definitely right about sporadic movement as just a few minutes ago laying completely still in bed I felt some “bubbles popping” and a baby punch right in the middle 😂
Upcoming appointments? June 10th (routine OB checkup)
Rant/rave? Rave-ish rant: I am getting promoted at work on Monday, and I just got the email notification that it will be a virtual ceremony, meaning that it has to be done at home instead of on base in the presence of my commanding officer, executive officer, and command master chief. This is my last advancement ceremony before I retire from the military in two years, so it's a little heartbreaking. However, I'm not one for all-eyes-on-me, so doing it from home with just me and MH is nice.
Questions? I know we've discussed ovarian cysts in this BMB before, but has anyone who has ovarian cysts had issues with them during pregnancy? I have a 5cm x 3cm cyst on my left ovary, and a slightly smaller one on the right, and I must have slept funny or something last night because my right one is f*cking killing me today. I'm going to see if taking some tylenol will help, but yeah, oof it hurts like hell.
GTKY: Tell us about the town you grew up in. Okay, so as the fourth of five kids in a blended family, I spent half of my childhood in Southern California, and the second half in a very small town (actually, a census-designated place) in rural Washington state. As of the 2000 census, there were 299 residents. I doubt much has changed that much since then, since the town is mostly dairy or berry farms, and many of the folks in my generation moved away after we graduated high school. Speaking of which, my town only had an elementary school, so we all got bussed in to one of thee high schools in our county, all of which were about a 15 minute drive from my house, so I got to choose which one I wanted to attend. And since we were in such close proximity to Canada, many of our field trips were to the Vancouver, BC area, and we always went school clothes shopping in Canada because of the exchange rate.
I actually loved living there. It was so quiet, and you could see a bajillion stars at night. I loved my schools, the climate in the Pacific Northwest, and that everyone knows everyone. But, I needed more for myself and my future, which is why I joined the military at 17 yrs old and have never gone back except for brief trips to visit family.
@amapa20 - I've had a few friends ask me when I'm going to start showing, so I guess I still look like I've had too many burritos for lunch, lol. To me, I am definitely showing (I can't fit into my old jeans), but the only baby weight I've gained is in my abdomen, so I'm thinking that by the end of this I'll be one of those pregnant ladies who looks like she swallowed a basketball.
@babycakesday - FTM here, and I haven't started leaking, however, I had my nipples pierced in 2014 and only recently took them out this past Christmas, and have noticed some white-ish discharge if I squeeze them (sorry, TMI). I'm used to cleaning the holes where my piercings were as part of my shower routine, which is why I noticed that. Bodies are weird, haha.
@babyodo, mine have been pierced since 1997/1998. I know I will need to take them out before the baby is born, but it's a hard thing to give up when I've had them for so long (I sincerely doubt I'll get them re-pierced, and I'm fully aware they will close within a week; I don't have the patience to deal with removal/reinsertion every time I feed the baby).
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
I was heartbroken to take mine out, but it was a requirement for my D&C, and they closed right up. I tried to re-insert them as soon as I got home, but it was too painful so I gave up.
I also have my naval pierced, and just bought a set of flexible extended belly button rings for when my abdomen gets big enough to need something longer than what I currently have in there.
I ended up ordering some reusable nursing pads for whenever I go out in public in case the leaks happen again. I keep reading that it’s normal. I just didn’t expect it since I didn’t deal with anything with my first.
@coldbrew I only have found one pair that works so far and that was through ThredUP.

Congrats on your promotion @babyodo! I understand the slight disappointment though. I'm graduating residency next month and what is normally a really big ceremony has become a virtual. I'm still graduating which is the important thing. Just makes me a little sad.
@carrotsandpeas3 thanks! Yeah, my commencement for grad school next month will be virtual, as well, so I'm getting hit with a double-whammy. In fact, this morning I had to submit a slide with my picture and a brief message for them to display when they read my name out loud during the ceremony. And they're sending us our caps & gowns for free, but I had to pay out of pocket for my military service member stole.
Upcoming appointments? Telemedicine appt on June 22.
Rant/rave? Oh goodness I am having a return of nausea at Week 20-WTF? Anyone else having this experience? I had nausea up through the end of Week 16 and thought I was done.....
