Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: cherry/lug nut/olive
Upcoming appointments: ultrasound, NIPT/labwork, and first OB appt on Thursday (finally!)
How are you feeling?: Nauseated, moody/irritable, fatigued - truly a joy to be around these days
Rants/Raves: My 9 month old figured out how to army-crawl and how to get back into a sitting position from her belly over the weekend. She is SO MUCH less frustrated and happier to play independently - good news for this tired mama!
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited?: Praiano, Italy - it's a smaller town on the Amalfi Coast, and so incredibly gorgeous. Barcelona, Spain and Big Sur, California are very close runners up.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a piece of popcorn (my husband thinks these sizes are ridiculous, but it is fun to have him guess everyday! He will argue that yesterday's was probably bigger than today's and whatnot).
Upcoming appointments:. Next Wed is 10 week appointment.
How are you feeling?:
It is really up and down. Somedays I feel almost normal and somedays I feel like death. Lots of throwing up, but I think my husband and I now have a routine set up for it.
Rants/Raves:. My job opened back up but they are staggering when they want staff members to come in. I am slightly terrified to be called back in with how terrible I have been feeling. I interact with the public, so I can't really sneak off to the bathroom and get sick easily.
Questions:. My husband and I are thinking that we don't want any of the genetic testing completed. What are you guys thinking about it?
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? Hawaii is just so beautiful! We have been a couple times and it is amazing to see all the different landscapes across the islands. The night sky is also gorgeous. Now wish it wasn't so far away!
Once my grandmother knows, my entire hometown will know. I should just tell her and then shut my phone off.
We planned to go to Italy for our ten year anniversary. Well that is in August, so that trip is being delayed obviously.
Tags are being super weird right now, but sending love and the above comments your way.
@dobiemom11 - I'm doing genetic testing because I just turned 39 and I want to be prepared as early as possible if there are any medical concerns. I had a good experience with my first pregnancy as well - but I know that there are risks of false positives and false negatives as well, so it's definitely what feels right to you! I'd have to really think about it if insurance didn't cover most of the cost - Aetna said it was "fully covered" and we still ended up paying ~$800 of the $3000 total. Anyone else find insurance coverage/billing kind of a mystery?
Team Green/Pink/Blue: Getting NIPT testing this Friday and will update as soon as I can
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: A water bottle cap
Upcoming appointments: NIPT testing on 5/22, and next U/S on 6/9
How are you feeling?: Very nauseous/exhausted. Going to bed at 8:30 or 9 every night. Not hungry at all. Just trying to eat what I can and get things done around the house when I feel okay, but the majority of every day has been pretty rough.
Rants/Raves: SO over quarantine and really need to get my hair done. Salons are reopened here, but I'm not ready to go out in public yet.
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? Maybe its because I'd love to have a glass of wine right now, but really missing my trip to Santa Barbara wine country.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: mine still hasn’t updated from yesterday so I’ll go with Cherry which it says for the whole week.
Upcoming appointments: had an appt today, interview with nurse and bloodwork. Fun times. I go back next week to meet with the dr for the first time and have my first sonogram.
How are you feeling?: So tired.
Rants/Raves: kinda pissed that I cannot get any workout equipment. I need some weights but everywhere is sold out. I’ve put on 10 quarantine lbs. today’s weight was my heaviest and I’m very emotional about that.
Questions: when is everyone finding out their baby’s gender? We found out with our last at 15 weeks because my doctor was cool and just checked herself. I’ve switched Doctors this time and they allow you to pay for a gender scan at 16-18 weeks or you can wait for your anatomy scan at 20 weeks.
I don’t think we’re doing genetic testing because neither of us are at higher risk.
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? I really love San Antonio. I love the architecture and history, the food is amazing there too. It’s a short drive for us and we go there every few years.
@BmcD2016 I'll find out the sex around 13 weeks from the NIPT, I'll be 35 at delivery so it's a given. Last time I found out at 17 weeks from an early anatomy scan.
Hi there! New to week 3...After a dating ultrasound yesterday, my new due date is 12/20
Estimated Due Date/Weeks +Days: 9+2
FTM/STM/STM+: Fourth time mom
Team Green/Pink/Blue: Finding out in about 3 weeks!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Cherry/weighs as much as a penny
Upcoming appointments: Going in on June 9 for an ultrasound and NIPT
How are you feeling?: Crappy, but normal for me at this stage. I keep telling myself that crappy is a good sign, but it still sucks.
Rants/Raves: My husband is working from home right now, and he had been awesome about giving me breaks from the kids/naps whenever he is able! I want to do something special for him to say thank you... but I’m too tired!
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? My husband and I went to Santorini on our honeymoon. Dreaming about those sunsets, beaches and laid back atmosphere!
@dobiemom11 We are getting NIPT done because I am 39, so I’m considered high risk. Personally, I am happy to get it done simply because I’m a planner and if my baby was going to have special needs, I would want to be prepared. However, I have some friends who said they would rather not worry about it, since they would continue with the pregnancy no matter what. I think if it isn’t crazy expensive, then it’s just what you and your partner decide is right for you.
@BmcD2016 We will find out sex with the results of our NIPT because my age. With our first two kids, though, we didn’t find out until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks.
@readermom1 biggest thing people often do not realize, even if they were to continue with the pregnancy, many babies with Down's have heart problems and often require surgery or careful monitoring. The sooner that can be tracked and planned before birth the better the outcome for the baby.
@willashbaby and @readermom1 It's even more complicated than that. Some babies with Downs Syndrome have heart problems that are so significant, they're fatal. When we got our NIPT testing, we found out the baby had T21. When we went in for the ultrasound, we were told that the abnormalities were so significant that the baby was likely to die before it was born. And, if it somehow made it to term, it would die shortly afterwards. The baby was "incompatible with life." That's a good reason to consider NIPT testing. Yes, it's easy for people to say that they'd "love a baby no matter what," but, in our case, we felt that the most compassionate thing was to let the baby go. So, we made the decision to terminate at 12 weeks rather than have the baby suffer. Not trying to start a big "thing" about it - just saying that these decisions are a lot more complicated when you're actually in them than what you'd expect before you get there.
Here's my check in:
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 12/19 (9w4d)
FTM/STM/STM+: STM+ Third kid
Team Green/Pink/Blue: We'll find out. I'm guessing it's a girl, though.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: A pecan
Upcoming appointments: Ultrasound and blood draws on the 26th.
How are you feeling?: Sick by the evenings for sure. I think I'm still feeling worse each day rather than better, and, given what happened in past pregnancies, I doubt I'll feel better for another month.
Rants/Raves: I'm annoyed that it's cold here. 48! What the heck.
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? Costa Rica.
Team Green/Pink/Blue: we’ll find out in a couple weeks!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: A green olive?
Upcoming appointments: Genetic testing the 26th
How are you feeling?: good just tired and easily winded oh and extremely bloated
Rants/Raves: I can stop bloating and look like I’m 5 months pregnant. Also I’ve had this very light brown spotting that’s stressing me out.
Questions: anyone using a home Doppler? We’ve been finding it everyday and it never gets old!
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? So far, probably Paris or our anniversary in Riviera Maya. We were supposed to go to Ireland in 2 weeks and Bora Bora for our 10 year anniversary and both have been cancelled. Pretty devastated especially about bora bora!
@notvincent I am so sorry you had to go through that. I definitely didn’t mean any disrespect, or to bring up difficult memories with my comment. It seems that testing is a much more complex issue than I realized.
@notvincent I am so sorry you ever had to go through such a difficult experience and I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this, I think it’s impossible for anyone to say what they’d do until they’re in this situation. You did what was absolutely best for your family and your baby.
@notvincent thank you for sharing! Also, echoing everyone else - I’m so sorry you experienced that, and sending you all of the positivity for this baby. These are also the reasons why we’re doing all of the testing we can do, so that we can make early informed decisions if and as soon as we have to.
@readermom1 No disrespect taken at all! I just wanted to give everyone a little bit of a different perspective. It was a difficult decision, and, while it was incredibly painful, we feel pretty confident that it was the right decision for us. Nobody wants to have to face that, obviously, but we're obviously hopeful for a different outcome this time. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words!
Team Green/Pink/Blue: I thino we're going to cave and find out next week when harmony test results come back.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a prune
Upcoming appointments: I have my MFM consult on Tuesday and my genetic counseling on 6/2. I dont go back to my OB until 6/18
How are you feeling?: overall ok. Still pretty tired and bot very hungry.
Rants/Raves:
Questions: I had one by I forgot! 🤦♀️
GTKY: What is your favorite placed you’ve visited? I'm lame I've never reall gone anywhere.
@notvincent thank you for sharing your story! I am so sorry you had to go through that.
@dobiemom11 i got the blood draw for the Harmony test on Thursday. Due to my health issues my OB recommended it. We did it last time as well. Insurance covers most of it and I'd rather have more information earlier rather than later if there is an issue.
