Started the thread so I could get this off my chest. We've got an almost 11 year old cat, and a 9 year old cat. The 11 year old had his annual physical this morning and we got the news he has a 3/6 heart murmur and one of his kidneys is enlarged. He was a "dropped at a farm in a box" kitten and he's always been sensitive to UTI's and kidney infections, so we knew that was coming. It was just a big old womp womp because we're having to come to terms with the idea that our babies are getting old. Killer, the 11 year old, has followed us through 6 houses/apartments in his 11 years with us. He was MH and I's first baby together. Reality that he's getting old is sad.
Kitty picture in the spoiler: Killer, our 11 year old is the grey and white monster. Our 9 year old is L, the black beast.
@RedBaramid What a handsome boy. I'm sorry you got difficult news at the vet. It's hard realizing your beloved companions won't be there with you forever. I hope there's a treatment that can help
Can we just talk for a minute about how annoying these Teleconsult things are?
As I mentioned before, I've been having trouble with my cell phone service at home, so I tried to head it off at the pass, and call the office to let them know that the doctor should call me on my landline. They thanked me and said they appreciated it! So I've basically just been waiting all day for the phone to ring, and hoping I don't miss it while I'm in the shower or going outside with the baby or whatever.
So of course, today DD won't let me put her down for her nap. And usually she is so good about, but today she would just only sleep on me. So fine, normally I wouldn't mind just resting with her for a while, except now I'm just stress-resting, waiting for the cordless to ring, and quietly figuring out what I'm going to have to do when it does. I finally get up to see what's going on with my cell phone and when I check the voicemail, sure enough, there's a message there from the nurse. She's saying that the doctor can't get through and asking me to unblock my phone so that a blocked number can call me, and then the doctor will call me back tomorrow once I've done that. Or today, if I let them know that I've done that in time.
So now I have to call them back, and she's not picking up at her extension, so I have to try again and the other extension, and finally they get me over to the lady and I tell her, 1. I wouldn't know the first thing about unblocking my phone, if it's a setting from my service provider, and 2. which number is the doctor trying to call? Turns out she was trying to call my cell, and then the nurse saw the note to call the landline, so now I've just been anxiously waiting for the past half an hour for the doctor to ring the cordless phone. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020794/uploads/editor/ck/iwyyg33tilnc.gif" alt=""> At least DD is just sort of playing quietly in a room for the time being, but I can't exactly ignore her for the rest of the day waiting for the phone to ring. Like, I'm actually starting to get pissed here. How difficult can it possibly be just to have a blessed phone call??? At this point it would have been so much less stressful just to show up at the office for an appointment.
My DS1 sees 2 speech therapists one private and the other through the state. We had our first online call with our private speech therapist that he doesn't really like and it was pointless. She couldn't keep him focused and neither could I. I'm seriously considering dropping her and just keeping his state provided therapist who we all LOVE and since he will be in preschool come August we get one at school. Even before it was moved to video calls they just don't get along. I don't think she likes working with 2 year old's as she doesn't try to understand him at all and the "learning games" she plays with him have not helped his speech at all. I actually yelled at her at our second appointment because she kept insisting he sat in a high chair and would not understand he has sensory issues that make confined spaces a nightmare for him. If his next appointment is just as bad we WILL be switching therapists.
@mrswheeler812 I'm an SLP and I work with 2 year olds and that is NOT how the therapy process should be going. At all. He does not need to sit in a high chair for therapy, that is so not functional for the little ones and only reinforces that its not fun for him. Teletherapy and early intervention should be child led and heavy on supporting parents during this time. Does he need two SLPs? I say don't continue with this one and keep the one that you love. You won't get anywhere with a therapist that doesn't mesh with your family and your needs. I'm sorry you're in this position!
@RedBaramid@wednesdaygirl1019 - Thank you for the support. His pediatrician thought the two different styles would be beneficial because of how behind he was when we first started our journey. The main reason we hadn't cancelled our private is because I thought we would be loosing early interventions when he turns 3 this summer and I wanted to keep him working with someone outside of preschool. Plus our early interventions SLP focuses a lot on what we can do as his parents to help him along and turn the play he already does into learning moments. His private which is through Dayton Childrens focuses solely on him every session which I thought may help. I should just put on my Big Girl Pants and cancel her. Guess that's something I can do during my hour wait for my Glucose test next week!
@mrswheeler812 Ds1 had speech therapy, starting at 18 mo. When he started, he had the speech patterns of a 9 mo. We had 2 speech therapists as well. Eventually we dropped our private therapist, because of the expense, and went with an OT. The OT helped with his sensory issues, and worked his body, which helped him open up his speech. He still has some sensory issues and his gross motor skills are that of a 2 yo (he's 4), but his speech is at a 5+level. I know that may not fully help your situation, but for us, speech didn't click until we got his body worked out a bit, does that make sense?
@wildrainbow We actually just graduated from OT! He was almost completely on track with motor development and his sensory issues actually stemmed from his speech issues. We've improved enough that we don't need her anymore although she does still check in with us through his speech therapist. She gave us a lot of tools to help him and we will be receiving a TON of specialized equipment too to keep him on track plus her assessment helped get our preschool IEP since the school couldn't perform their own due to Covid restrictions.
@wife-and-mommy YES! I was just thinking this yesterday. I have been working from home since March 13. I feel like I can never leave the house and the days drag on. My employer just announced a 90 day extension on work from home so it looks like I will be working virtually up until my delivery date. I am so jealous of my husband, who is now finally able to go back to work, as he gets to leave the house each day. On the bright side, I haven't had to buy any maternity clothes and I can work in my sweats on all day so that is a win!
@charhar0820 Same! I'm 28 weeks on Saturday and I'm like how did that even happen?? It's so strange to think that the last day of normal I had was when I was 19 weeks and that was 9 weeks ago.
I'm with you @charhar0820 and @wednesdaygirl1019... just hit 25w today and I cannot believe how fast this is flying. First tri felt like forever and now I could use time to slow down.

@RedBaramid I'm sorry to hear that about your cat. Its hard hearing as they get older what issues they have. I hope you have lots of years left to enjoy.
@BusinessWife mine is making me do video consults. I hate it. My Ob isn't down with technology and I could not hear a word she was saying the whole video session so I tried my best to read her lips. I really wish I could just do my typical in person visits. My kids have no chill and beat on my bedroom door like savages when I try to do a video appointment.
mrswheeler812 yeah you need to drop that slp. I have had to go through several because one screamed at my son and others didn't click with him so he refused to work with them in anyway at all.
@wednesdaygirl1019 since you are an SLP can I pick your brain about my son and if I'm making the right choice?

@ziggymama06 Yesssss, I am feeling the same. The first trimester felt like it lasted forever and a day and the second just waved at me driving by. Time is flying. But I have a feeling that the third trimester is going to be a long one again.

We went for our first family walk of the season (beyond just playing in the yard together) and it was so nice just to get the juices flowing! DH wore DD in the carrier, and I carried the water bottles. Lol Unfortunately we didn't get very far, since our normal trail access was closed, but now DH has his homework to figure out our new way to go. ;) Hopefully we can make it a regular thing!
Today has been great. I went for a couple of good walks, and I kind of felt pretty today while my hair was drying and it was falling into soft waves (I should have taken a photo earlier because by the time I thought about it I'd tried to play hide and seek in and pretty much ruined it lol). We rearranged the bedroom and assembled the pack n' play so by the time baby gets here we won't be stubbing toes. I deep cleaned the master bathroom and DD was desperate to be involved so I let her clean all my make-up brushes, that was actually really helpful and I'm reminded that I enjoy the free slave labor. We had great fried chicken for lunch and dinner and during my second walk today DD rode along with me on her scooter and it was nice to hear her laughing like she was. Then I spent $100.00 ordering stuff off the internet that I don't need. Oops lol. Now I'm going to continue to online "window" shop for artwork to hang above the pack n' play. Probably something magical and moon themed.
After snowing (!!) last weekend, today was absolutely beautiful. It felt so nice to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine. My mom came over and we socially distanced in my front yard to work on my drive-by shower plans. I hadn't seen her really in 9 weeks other than on family zoom chats on Easter/Mother's day. Afterwards H and I drove down to the lake and took a nice long walk at the park and the pier. It was packed with people having picnics and letting their dogs swim in the water (swimming for people is still closed) but we had our masks and people generally were respectful of each others' space.
Then I had a hot fudge sundae for dinner. #noregrets
Here lately I'm really digging minimalism. I have purged so much stuff to my garage. Just waiting now to be able to donate clothes and more essential like items to a local shelter when they are open for donations again.
Seeing empty space or mostly empty shelves has felt really satisfying. We have also been getting some projects completed around the house.
I'm really excited for the real school year to just come to an end. The assignments my son gets at least aren't very educational but I know his teacher is really trying. I think I'm going to load us up with workbooks and just work with him more over the summer. He's more of a hands on kid so I'm hoping he enjoys them.

My hospital just relaxed the visitor policy slightly for maternity patients and now I can have an additional support person! Tat means my mom and hubby will be with me the whole time and that makes me so happy!
