Genetic testing

Hi all! Just starting our TTC journey. I have infertility issues so I will be going to get my bloodwork soon. The doctor mentioned genetic testing and made it seem pretty normal. We have been trying to decide if we want to do it and it is giving me MAJOR anxiety. All of the worries.. what if we are a match for something..will it cause more anxiety.. is it selfish?? All these questions. Ugh! Any words or wisdom from experience?! Thank you!!

Re: Genetic testing

  • @newbie67 this would be a better question for the Infertility board. Doing the genetic testing is a valuable piece of information to know as you work with your doctor to conceive. Remember, even if you do test positive as a carrier for any genetic issues, it  requires both parents to be carriers in order for there to be any chance of passing it to your child.

If you both test positive for anything, your doctor may want you to opt for IVF so that they can do embryo testing to see if the embryos have the genetic diseases you tested positive for. They will not transfer any of those embryos as they have a high likelihood of not surviving.

I find I'm more anxious not knowing. It is not at all selfish to find out if you're a carrier!
