Selfishly I am so excited about how my visit went today and couldn’t wait to share. Baby A and B were 2.5 pounds today and Baby C was 2 pounds 13 ounces. These would be good numbers for a singleton but are GREAT for triplets. All three babies were moving, swallowing and practice breathing which are really good signs for development. Still no sign of twin twin transfusion or growth restrictions which are our biggest threats for preterm delivery. My blood pressure is holding steady and they down graded my gestational diabetes to borderline. Finally, my doctor excused me from work for the remainder of the pregnancy so I can get more rest and focus on taking care of myself. So all in all it was just a really good day. I’ll go back in two weeks to see them again for biophysical profiles. I hope everyone gets equally reassuring feedback this month!
@jkr2019 That's about where my twins were - I can't believe your triplets were weighing that much! That's fantastic!! Hopefully it's a sign of less necessary medical intervention to come. ❤
I had my 28W appointment yesterday - everything is looking normal and measuring on track. I did come prepared with a bunch of specific VBAC questions, but since I had my appointment with an NP, she couldn't really answer any of them which was a bit disappointing. So I made sure my next appointment (32 weeks) is scheduled with the OB so I can get some concrete answers and start mentally preparing for L&D. We also talked about coronavirus and the NP did ease any anxieties I had around that - she said just wash hands, treat like the flu, and go on with life. She also said that there is no signs of increased risk to pregnant women and that it is not something that would pass through the placenta to baby if I did get infected while pregnant. Also had the glucose test so fingers crossed that I passed!
Had my 28w appt this morning. My regular OB was across the street delivering a baby but I didn't mind sticking around to wait since it guaranteed I could see him and not the sub who shames my weight. Given I'm up only half a pound, I am not about that life today So I got to chill for an extra 45 minutes and really build up the need to pee. Appt went well. DS2 stuck himself right up and out for the doppler, then tried to worm away. "I was gonna ask if you were feeling enough movement, but I can see it clearly. If you can't feel that, we may need a neurologist!" All day, every day, doc. We narrowed down a date for RCS and we'll finalize it in 2 weeks at my next appt. I'm excited to have an eviction date!
Both babies were 2 lb 6 oz this morning at 28+2. The doc mentioned that their bellies were smallish (5th percentile), so my next appointment will be with the MFM, but she wasn't overly concerned (not an urgent MFM appointment, for example) and told me not to worry about it. I'll worry anyways but not too much...
Had my first two week appointment today oh joy. Everything was okay other than based on fundal height I am measuring ahead, midwife said it isn't bad but just odd that I am now measuring ahead when I was measuring on track the rest of the appointments and with US. So idk, I am seeing my actual OB next appointment and I am going to talk with him about the fact I want to deliver with an OB for my own peace of mind.
@mamaj1220 I was measuring on track, and then two weeks later they said I was measuring behind. I had different doctors for each appointment and wonder if there is some discrepancy in measuring technique. Curious what they will say tomorrow. I also wonder if baby's position can impact the way things feel when trying to measure fundal height.
@mamaj1220@pirateduck Yeah, don’t take fundal height too seriously. It’s technically from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus, but stuff shifts easily. I carried DS1 super low and consistently measured 3 weeks behind, DS2 was super high and measured 2 weeks ahead. Baby girl measures 1-2 weeks behind and she’s mostly still transverse.
Fun fact, if you have the line nigera it usually cuts off at about the point the top of your uterus is. So if you can pinpoint your pubic bone and measure from there to the top of the line, you have a rough fundal height.
@rox7777 That’s clever, the body is amazing. However, it doesn’t quite work for me. My linea Nigeria goes all the way up to my breast bone. I had my growth ultrasound today and baby’s butt is close to my last rib. I have to wait until my next appointment on the 24th to see how long/big baby is.
@rox7777 thank you! I was always right on track with DS1 and the way she said it made me nervous like suddenly it was worrisome. I don’t have the linea nigera (but all the stretch marks 😂) so that knocks me out of that one. I am seeing my OB for my next appointment so I’m wondering what he will think.
@mamaj1220 I was measuring off at 22 weeks but not at 26 weeks. The MW at 22 weeks said it might be that I was starting to "pop out" instead of just growing upward and she wasn't concerned about it. The MW at 26 weeks said I was measuring perfectly and I'm assuming she only commented because the measurement from 22 weeks said I was measuring ahead. I also think I was pulling myself up to see when she was measuring at 22 weeks and when my abdominal muscles contract the middle of my stomach gets much bigger. My entire pregnancy with DD they didn't mention a single thing about my fundal measurements.
@rox7777 any idea why I would have a linea negra last pregnancy and not have one this pregnancy? I totally forgot about that until you mentioned it.
@jhysmath It could show up later. With DS1 and this pregnancy I’ve had one since around the half way mark, with DS2 it didn’t show up until a few weeks before I gave birth. I’ve also read that it tends to darken/show up around the same time your nipples get extra dark. For me that didn’t happen until about a week or two ago and it’s now very prominent whereas it was fairly light and hard to see.
I had an appointment this morning at 29 weeks, all is good! The doctor was running half an hour late so that was nice (sarcasm) and came in all harried and didn’t even introduce herself or shake our hands. We won’t be seeing her again, since there’s like 10 doctors to pick from and I’ve liked everyone else so far. She said my fundal height was right on track and I asked if the measurements meant anything. She said No there’s absolutely no bearing on baby’s size or when you might deliver or anything. I think it’s probably a relic from the old days when they had no other tools and it just continues because no one has said “let’s agree to stop wasting our time on that.” I also got my Tdap and Rhogam, both in the same arm. But I’m hopeful that I won’t be too sore later. I always get shots in my dominant arm because an old school nurse who trained me at my first job said that it helps to work out the discomfort when it’s the arm you use all the time. I’ve found that to be pretty true.
I was surprised to find to had absolutely no soreness with my TDAP. The flu shot kills me, but the TDAP was fine. Hopefully others have the same experience.
I had my 28 week appt today. wonderful glucose test (bleh). I made DH come with me to keep me company. OB didn't seem to worried about my abdominal pain. said it might be the start of a hernia but she felt all around and said she doesn't think any organs are affected and it's probably my abdominal wall just being sore/injured, but that she won't be able to tell me for sure until after I deliver.
I have to get the rhogam shot within the next 72 hrs, but it's really annoying because they can't do it at the OB office and i have to go to the hospital, pick it up from the pharmacy inside, and bring it to like L&D or the outpatient center in order to complete it all. I don't know why they make it so complicated!
Also, can't believe i scheduled my last "4 week" interval appt.
@sunshinesea22 The doctor I saw last week was also in a rush and it was very off-putting. She rushed in, barely paused to hear my answers when she asked a question, measured/checked the heartbeat, and then started telling me about Tdap and said I could get now or next appointment. Before I could even answer yes, she said she was going to give me more information about it and ran out of the room, gave me the paper, and ran back out. She never even said goodbye! So I didn't end up getting the tdap. I probably could have tried hunting down a nurse, but eh- I'll just get it next time.
@mamaqdubu That’s super annoying! Why all the hoops to jump through?!?
@peachnectarine It’s so rude to be like that. I mean I see patients all day too but even if you’re in a rush, you have to at least pretend that you care
oh, I got the TDAP at my last appointment and my arm still hurts, but I didn't get my Rhogam shot -- they didn't even mention it. Thanks for the reminder!
I've been with this OB/GYN practice for many years and only within the last year it seems like many of my favorite doctors are no longer with the practice (probably retired). A lot of the doctors I'm seeing at routine appointments are not OBs but rather DOs. It makes me wonder if they are really experts in delivering babies and whether or not they are missing anything (like the fact that I'm RH-).
Had my 28 week appointment, my mw said to celebrate the passing of my glucose test but if I want to for peace of mind she can write me a script to test my blood, I said I'd celebrate instead because I don't want the gd diagnosis to make it so I have to deliver sooner than later and they don't induce for vbacs. I'll try to watch my carbs going forward just in case though. I also out my tdap, my flu shot hurt more than it did so there's that.
@allie456 Personally, I like DOs better. They’re taught to look at and treat the person as a whole, not just as a bag of symptoms. Perhaps the nurses missed your lab results with the blood type results, I think they’re usually in charge of that kind of stuff (at least at my doctor)? It wouldn’t hurt to call and ask if they ordered your rhogam yet. My office doesn’t stock it, they only order when needed for a specific patient. Also it never occurred to me how rare negative blood type is, only 15% of the population has a negative blood type.
@peachnectarine I understand when docs are busy but that type of behavior is a pet peeve for sure. That’s frustrating for you!
AFM I had my appointment with the geneticist/ultrasound with the MFM today. All went really well thank goodness. To boil it down a lot- basically they said the odds are very very low something is wrong with baby and to try to put any worries aside. Other than that we got another super in depth look at baby boy. He’s now head down and sunny side up with his feet next to his face. I didn’t realize I was this worried until the feeling of relief following the appointment. I really can’t believe these babies will be here so soon!
My PCP is a DO and I saw her through my 24 week appointment last time. Then I started with the OB at 28 weeks. She moved to another state at the beginning of this year so I just went to my OB from the start this time around. My PCP was also DD's doctor (we opted out of a traditional pediatrician for family practice). Since she left we went with one of the partner's at her office who is also DO. I thought about going to someone at an office closer to me, but they didn't have any DO's and I really like our office, even if it is out of my way.
I too really like the holistic approach of a DO versus regular MDs. Mind you they are still confined by conventional medicine practices. I've had to see some functional medicine practitioners (NP, DC, etc) over the years to get some help outside of what our standard medical and insurance model would do.
@sunshinesea22 I called, and it turns out they completely missed the fact that I needed a RhoGam shot and it's been ordered for when I take my 3 hour glucose test next week, so thank you so much for mentioning it!
My PCP is a DO and I had no idea what that was I just figured they studied something differently. I really like her she has a preschooler at our school and is very pro-breastfeeding. She is also my daughters PCP and was really encouraging and helpful when I needed extra help learning to breastfeed.
