  • @babycakesday I have a deep cleaning coming up, I wish I could cancel it. We’ll see how bad it gets before then.

  • @deaddahliah I’m the worst dental patient ever. I get so nervous that they keep having to stop and let me take a break. I can just imagine how much worse it would be if I keep feeling like I need to gag. I called them and rescheduled it for after Easter. I should be 14 weeks then and fingers crossed the nausea has let up some by then. Hopefully yours gives you a break before you appt!

I had trouble brushing with my last 2 pregnancies and this one is the same. Its hard to think about, try to carry out for a whole minute and brushing my tongue is a joke. BUT I did go through with my dental visit a few days ago and for some reason I didn't have any gagging, nausea and survived. So I might suggest keeping that appt. Something about just watching tv and zoning out helped me and then I got at least one thorough cleaning to carry me for a bit lol. I pry needed it.
  • My gums were sooo sensitive when I went when I was pregnant and even when I was just BF. It’s pure torture to me. And I would for sure gag right now too.
  • @kboydbowman I saw your ultrasound post! I felt so much joy for you reading that there is a heartbeat 💗.

I just listened to a really great podcast on NIPT and other genetic screenings available through pregnancy. “All About Pregnancy and Birth with Dr Nicole Rankins” Episode 49 it was helpful reframing my mindset. Originally I thought “why do it if it won’t change my desire to deliver this baby to term?” Turns out that it’s MORE about making sure that when your baby is delivered you are prepared emotionally and practically (right specialists available etc) I think I’m going to opt to do it.

  • @courtneyjoy247 it's definitely a touchy subject,I it's good to do research about it. I'm all for it personally, I'll be going in next week.
  • Ultrasound was good but what a busy day! Everything is right on track and I'm going to have my baseline blood panel done next week as well as the prenatal screening test. Really antsy to get that done. H and went to a restaurant on the water after our appointment and enjoyed a couple of appetizer and some drinks (virgin mojitos for me!). Then we picked up DS and went to dinner with my college friend who stayed the night at our place. We had a nice catch up chat after dinner and it was wonderful! Looking forward to a restful weekend, I think despite me fighting it we are all getting colds :(
  • @morethanamama yay for good US.l and fun night. Boo for colds. I swear we’ve been fighting something all winter.
  • Anyone else rationalizing an insanely early bedtime due to time change? It's 7:30 and I'm in bed. First tri on unisom with a toddler is kicking my butt!
  • @carrotsandpeas3 oooh good idea 😂
  • @carrotsandpeas3 My 3yo goes to bed at 7:30 and I’m usually out by 8 these days. It’s ridiculous.

  • PSA: if you have to go to labor and delivery in the middle of the night and they order an ultrasound, do not ask your sonographer if she can tell you the sex. It’s 1 in the morning and you are apparently bleeding, the sex doesn’t matter!
    😴😴😴
  • Also, does it bug anyone else that the app says there’s a new post when you are the one that posted? It’s very annoying.
  • @calliah yes most annoying thing ever! It didn’t used to do that! I feel like I have to open the thread just to get rid of the new message tag.
  • Super annoying. Also, some threads for me show a million new posts but it's only a couple so I still need to scroll through the pages.

So I have a new OB and apparently they do the NIPT through this private lab called Invitae. I have a few of rants about it:
    1) they gave me a kit to essentially do the test on my own and bring it in. I have to read instructions but it is annoying to me.
    2) I'm AMA but they didn't check the box on the form, just "monitoring average risk pregnancy. Ummm, no, please check the AMA multigravida box and don't give these people a reason to charge me
    3) The lab website says it takes 10-20 days to get results. That's completely absurd to me. I did this same test through QUEST last time and had results in 4 days. I'm waiting for those results to tell my mom and this is making things more complicated. I hope that is not the case.

I apologise because I know these are total 1st world problems but seriously, why can't certain practices be standardized?? I hate all these private companies making deals with doctor and doing things differently than others. Gah.

@morethanamama  I already have so many complaints about the NIPT, and I haven't even done it yet for this pregnancy.  I'm doing the NIPT in a couple of weeks.  I'm AMA, so I thought that it would be covered for me.  Nope.  I need to pay out-of-pocket.  The company doesn't accept my insurance.  My insurance company is probably one of the most commonly used ones where I live, so I find it extremely strange that the OB uses a company that most people's insurance will be out-of-network.  Last time when I did the NIPT, I expected to be paying out-of-pocket, but I was shocked when the company sent me an $8,000 bill.  It ended up being much less, but it took a few phone calls to fix.  It also caused a lot of unnecessary stress.  I called ahead of time this time to find out the cost because it says to call for an estimate.  I was basically told that they can't make any guarantees about pricing, so I asked if I was going to get sent another $8,000 bill.  The guy on the phone said, "We don't do that."  They are liars.  It also took over two weeks for me to get my results last time.

  • @courtneyjoy247 I am a huge advocate for knowledge is power when it comes to pregnancy. There are a lot of considerations that need to be made when carrying a high risk baby.
  • @AB518 ugh, I can't believe they did that. I cannot understand how in America people  live with the expectation that they have to chase these companies every time they get a bill to get it reduced because it's most likely BS. It's ridiculous. Invitae's webpage says the out of pocket cost is $99. It seems dumb to me. I am sending a message to my OB to get things squared away. Sorry about your ordeal!!

@morethanamama  I finally figured out that the maximum cost for me will be $249; it's with Natera.  I hope that your new NIPT company ends up working out without too many headaches.

  • @morethanamama can't you use any lab you want? I'm using grassroots labs because their pricing is on their website. They're the same tests no matter where you go. Just tell your provider you have a preference. Insurance coverage should be the same.

  • Thanks all. OB responded "sorry for the oversight" lol, I know you people and your codes too well! I am too used to fight bills haha. Luckily she said results are usually available in 5-7 days so that's also good news.
