Bassinets

Can we talk specifically about bassinets?  DD is 6 and slept in her rock n play for the first few month, which has since been recalled.  I want to make sure I have the safest option, while having baby sleep in my bedroom.  Anyone have a bassinet that they love?  I will likely be having another c section, so being able to pick up baby easily is a plus.

Re: Bassinets

  • @kerco925 I love our Lotus travel crib and bassinet kit. It's spendy, but we knew we would be traveling with DS1 and also wanted something light for going to Grandparents' places during the holidays. It also has a smaller foot print than the pack and play we looked at and was light enough for me to move it around after my c section. It's just ever too slightly wide to fit through our doorways but some creative shoving fixed that.

We never really used the rocking rails feature. 🤷‍♀️

My DS also lived in the rock n play which I don't even have anymore but yeah recalled. I wanted something similar though cause it worked so well with him, but also safe. I found this
    https://www.amazon.com/Graco-DreamGlider-Gliding-Swing-Percy/dp/B01MTM3HAW

It's like a bassinet that also glides sort of like a swing but front to back instead of side to side. It has music and vibration like the rock n plays and can be inclined or lay flat. I found it in great used condition on the fb marketplace and it looks brand new. But half the price. I have it setup next to my bed and plan to use that before transitioning to crib. I feel like this was the closest I could find to the benefits of the rock n play.

ETA to add it doesnt have to glide either. If you just want it to be like a bassinet.

  • DS slept on me only for the first six weeks, and then in the rnp at night until he was 5 months, then we battled to get him in his crib which was unsuccesful and he slept in our bed the majority of the night until he was a year old so I am also looking for a bassinet!

I do have a pack and play with bassinet attachment, but we are moving soon into a two story house where our current is a ranch, and I want something to put baby in for both floors. Ideally I want something cheap that’s easy to move around so following for suggestions!
  • We had a chicco side sleeping crib which I lovvveeedddd and will use again. I know they’re not a huge thing in the US but they’re popular here!  Not sure what we’ll do for daytime sleeping. Last time my friends bought us a baby box from Finland (https://www.finnishbabybox.com/en/) but we now use it for storage. We have a babybjorn travel crib but it doesn’t have a bassinet feature so might be annoying with a newborn!

  • If you don’t plan to travel, I loved our Halo. I bought it gently used for less than half the cost of new, and I liked the swivel and drop-side features. And I’m sure this is the case for most bassinets, but it cleaned easily after a few unfortunate blowout episodes!
  • My first insisted on sleeping in our bed, my second totally refused! We have a mini crib (significantly smaller footprint than a Pack and Play!) next to my bed, and highest mattress setting is pretty high! It does fit through doorways, but isn't on wheels and it's wood, so it's not ideal to move around, but awesome.

If we had a bit of money to blow, I'd do the Halo Dream Nest (not the fancy bassinet, but the mesh travel thing) or Lotus bassinet with travel crib. Our Pack and Play is still in great shape, but it's so heavy and clunky. HEAVY!!! I want a playard that fits through doorways so I can drag it outside too for summer, so wheels and smaller would be awesome, hence drooling over the Halo. Graco makes a mini pack and play, The Travel Lite, which is cheaper and would work for me too. I've been heavily researching for weeks on this, but can't justify money for any of it. If we didn't have the mini crib I would. Even the Arms Reach Cosleeper would make a great bassinet for someone who liked option to side car, but didn't need a playard too.

For anyone looking for just a cheap bassinet, the Dream on Me Karley or the new Fisher Price Rock With Me-which looks like the successor to Rock and Play, but with more mesh, less padding, and no incline (so safe!).

  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone.  I want to look into that new Fisher Price one.  I like the price tag and it appears to fold up easily.  I am looking for one with no incline, mostly mesh, and a size where he can use it for a few months.
