Nauseous and bloated. I feel somewhat less fatigued though.
What are you doing to stay active? Running, walking, yoga, pilates
How did you do last week? Pretty well. I got three 30-40 minute runs in. Planning to do something low impact today and tomorrow.
Any goals for next week? Just keep moving.
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time? Probably earlier last year. After having DS, I struggled with depression and was still carrying extra baby weight 2 years later.
***TW***
After I had my first loss, I decided to turn my lifestyle around and use running as a way to work through the grief.
I went from basically never running to running two 10K races and a handful of 5Ks. I shaved like 3 minutes off my mile and even placed second in my age group at a small 5K. It was a really amazing period of transformation that I’m still really proud of.
Unfortunately, I had to cut back because the running and weight loss made me lose my period and I really wanted to get pregnant. However I’ve kept up with regular exercise since then and am still in pretty good shape.
@gomillis I don't actually like the running part of running, lol, but I'm so attracted by all the beautiful stories there are of people finding themselves/working through things/getting back on track through taking up running. Yours is yet another one that's just amazing. I have another friend who broke a 15-year smoking habit by replacing it with running, and the last half marathon I ran (it's been a looooong time) I was jogging alongside a woman who'd gotten divorced the year before and was running a dozen marathons across the U.S. that year as a way to reset. So cool. I recently watched Brittany Runs a Marathon on either Amazon or Netflix, and while it wasn't actually that good a movie it definitely made me want to take up running again. I'd say being able to knock out 40-minute runs while pregnant counts as really good shape!
How are you feeling this week? A little nauseous, mostly just "off" and low energy.
What are you doing to stay active? Ideally, cycling, taking long walks and going to the occasional pilates class
How did you do last week? Not good. I did a 20 minute ride last night because I knew this check-in was coming, but that was pretty much it for the last couple weeks.
Any goals for next week? Go to pilates once. Do some sort of cardio 2x. Walk at lunch 3 days/week.
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time? Putting aside highschool because I've gotta let that go, probably back before my wedding in 2016. I was going to spin class 5-6 times/week and for a few months did a lot of prepared meals from a local health food store. It will probably be a long time before I have the money, time or will power to get back to that place, but my life's all-around much fuller now so that's just fine.
@emiliadkay Thank you for encouragement! It’s amazing that you ran a half marathon, especially if you’re not fond of running! I saw Brittany Runs a Marathon recently too and had similar thoughts - not a great movie, but really inspiring.
How are you feeling this week? Tired, not too bad though and the nausea has been a bit better the last few days. Also supper bloated currently I'm going between looking normal in the morning to looking pregnant by the evening.
What are you doing to stay active? The aim is one 6-8k run, one class and one resistance workout, all about an hour.
How did you do last week? I managed a run and the class.
Any goals for next week? Another run on Sunday, a workout and a class during the week then I've got a 5k park run next weekend.
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time? Actually very recently. I did a 10k obstacle trial run at the beginning of November. It was similar to Tough Mudder and had the works; swimming through freezing cold lakes, wading through chest deep mud, crawling through pipes, climbing massive cargo nets, etc. It was incredibly physically taxing, it took 2 1/2 hours on entirely rough terrain, but I was amazing and I'm disappointed that it probably won't be until 2021 at the earliest that I'll be in a position to do another one.
@gomillisLoosing my first baby spurned me to make massive changes to my lifestyle too. I have PCOS, so I will always have a higher risk of MC but the one thing that was in my control was to lose weight and do more exercise. Since then, I've lost over 50lb and done a few 5k runs and the obstacle race above as well as having my son in 2018. I'm so proud of my self that I'm going into this pregnancy fit and at a healthy weight.
How are you feeling this week? : Pretty tired and queasy. I keep pushing on but my diet has become mashed potato based as it's the only thing I can regularly keep down and that sounds good.
What are you doing to stay active?: Right now I'm easing back into my stationary bike. I was up to 11 miles 5 days a week before I got the flu and ruptured my ear drum right at Christmas. I've managed 4 days so far this week. I'm hoping next week to increase it to 6.5 and start adding back in some yoga.
How did you do last week? : Last week I wasn't feeling like I had the energy or strength yet to work out. I imagine flu recovery sliding straight into the "morning sickness" phase of this pregnancy has not been helpful and though I wanted to get back on it last week, I just thought it was better to be sure I was through the flu than to push to early.
Any goals for next week?: 6.5 miles for 5 days, and at least 3 days with some yoga.
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time?: The last year has been my most fit ever. The last time I was as small as I am now, I was chest deep in very disordered eating and that spin ended with an attempted suicide over 10 years ago. Last year I took a good look at myself in the mirror and realized I was raising a daughter, and I needed to be an example of health and that I wanted to live a long life with her.. so I cleaned up my eating, and started exercising. It really set me free. It's helped my anxiety, it regulated my period, I've shrank 70 pounds so far (I've got a ways to go.. clearly things need to pause for a while though). I've got here mostly walking, riding a stationary bike while indulging in Netflix, and developing a daily yoga practice at home. Overall I am just way more active than I ever have been before. I spend more time cooking, but it's all from good fresh ingredients and every meal is mostly veggies. I'm really hoping to continue this lifestyle I've made through this pregnancy the best I can, and to pick it up and start pushing myself again shortly after I have this baby. I'm looking forward to getting into a doctor so I can ask all the questions about my current lifestyle, and find out what is safe for me to continue while I'm pregnant. I had been cutting calories (and watching macros), I've moved into maintenance mode until I get guidance.
@cornichonmam That’s incredible! That obstacle course sounds intense! Kudos to you for your dedication, especially in early pregnancy!
@RedBaramid Your story is inspirational! I find that exercise helps with my anxiety and depression too. It sounds like you’ve had a rough go of things lately with your health, but you’ve put the healthy habits in place to get back on track!
How are you feeling this week? This has been my toughest week yet. I had a headache every day that persisted the whole day. Today was the first time I didn’t have one.
What are you doing to stay active? Bootcamp (2-3x/wk) and running (3-4x/wk)
How did you do last week? Headaches kept me from doing anything until today. And when I don’t work out my body feels crappy and my anxiety gets wild. I am desperately looking forward to my group run tomorrow.
Any goals for next week? Get back to my usual routine. Praying the headaches are behind me.
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time? I played club lacrosse in college and was in incredible shape then. But as far as my “adult” life I would say last fall/winter/spring. I was training for a marathon (it was one year ago on Monday!) and rolled my marathon training into training for a half marathon PR. I was in incredible run shape.
@emiliadkay and @gomillis I recently watched Britney Run’s a marathon and agree it wasn’t an award winning film. BUT I admit I cried like a baby during the marathon montage only because it brought back all the feels for me about my own marathon.
@cornichonmam I am in awe of people that can do those race style obstacles. I can run some decent distances but ask me to climb or use my upper body strength and that would be the end for me.
@redbaramid That’s really incredible what you've been able to accomplish. What an great role model for your daughter to have 💗
@tyrion_ Hope the headaches are giving you a break, and today's run was the reset you were hoping it would be!
@RedBaramid What a year - what an accomplishment! I think one of the greatest things about kids is how easily they can reset our priorities and give us the strength to follow through on things that we've failed at, sometimes repeatedly, before. What's your Netflix drug of choice while biking?
@cornichonmam How cool! I know...2021 and the ability to pick so many fitness and other personal life goals back up feel so far away right now. I try to remind myself that this year, especially the back half, is literally going to fly by.
<div>How are you feeling this week? <div>Bloated and squishy, but my coworker (who knows) keeps saying I look great, while she literally has had clients grab her belly and ask her what's going on! 😯
</div><div>What are you doing to stay active? I'm not really, but I'm trying to maintain better posture, log all my food, and make lower carb choices.
How did you do last week? Meh, not that great. I logged most days at least something, and I did better with breakfast, lunch snacks, but then I would get home and all bets were off. I did have a couple dinners with cauliflower instead of rice, and a couple big spinach salads, so that's good.
Any goals for next week? I dunno about next week, but I do want to start making time to walk. And practice babywearing the toddler. I used to love hiking the trail in our backyard, and u can't even remember the last time I went.
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time? I was in great shape around when I met DH in like 2010. I was riding my bike and running all over town, as well as yoga classes every day for a month. I didn't run an official marathon, but I ran one night so close to a half, I got up and ran the second half the next morning, so I ran a full marathon in an 18 hour period or so. I was pretty proud of myself. Other times I had been really into my lifting, and in awesome fitness, but not necessarily eating to drop, so I didn't feel all that slim. My slimmest was 2014/2015 when I lost 75 lbs before the wedding. I kept 65 off for a while, but then IF struggles set in and I slowly gained it all back. And then some! But we finally got our first baby out of the deal, and here we are again! So my goal this pregnancy is mostly just to maintain a steady weight throughout and not gain as much as I did with DD. Logging everything and getting totally honest about what I'm eating really helps me make better choices. And so far I've found some lower carb, higher protein snacks for the week, so I'm hoping that will help me get the ball rolling.</div></div><div> </div><div> </div>
@RedBaramid Great job on the weight loss! I actually had started seeing a nutritionist prior to getting pregnant this time. I hadn't seen her throughout our subsequent transfers but now I finally feel ready to go back and see her and talk about pregnancy nutrition. Low carb has always helped me manage my weight, but I know she cautioned you can't go too low carb because the baby needs different nutrients... But then of course people with GD really DO have to eat low carb, right? I did not have it last time, but I was testing my sugar very regularly in an attempt to catch it early if it did develop. Anywho, sorry to ramble, but it turned out I have 12 free nutritionist consults per year, so I highly recommend it, if you're able to check it out! I was surprised at the new weight recommendations for pregnancy. They are actually much more generous at the low end, and I was surprised to hear I am in a range where I should really only gain 0-8 lbs.!!! 😨 So that should be fun.
@ziggymama06 when I toured Midwives of NJ, the one lady even had the audacity to tell me, of you absolutely must had had GD, they just didntd catch it! And at first I was like oh! But then I said wait a second, no. Cos I have a glucometer at home and I was checking and my sugars were always normal so.... 🤷 That kind of turned me off that without even knowing me or seeing my chart she was so ready to made a snap judgement like that.
@gomills you are amazing! Its so great you were already in a good routine to start, and it sounds like you are able to keep it up! You rockstar, you. ❤️
@tyrion_ I'm sorry the headaches kept you down this week. Hopefully it's just a phase and they will ease up for you. ((Hugs))
How are you feeling this week? Nauseous. I spend some time each morning laying on the bathroom floor trying not to puke. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better if I did.
What are you doing to stay active? I'm less nauseous at night so I've been doing workout videos. Usually only 15-20 minutes. I also do a class at a gym every week. I had been doing Spenga but now I've been doing yoga.
How did you do last week? I worked out 3 times, but one was pretty week. My energy levels have just been so low.
Any goals for next week? Do 4 good workouts. I like interval strength training - not as into running (although I do like it in the summer, just not a treadmill person).
GTKY: When in your life would you describe yourself as "most fit"? What were you doing/loving at that time During my last pregnancy. I was very motivated because I felt like I wasn't working out for just me. I think the added weight of pregnancy helped tone my legs more too which I enjoyed 😅 I worked out up until my due date and while they weren't the most strenuous workouts, something about working out throughout pregnancy felt empowering. Other than that would be college. I ran on the trails 4ish times a week and my stamina was amazing.

I'm inspired by all your running journeys! It really is cool to see what it's helped people work through. Maybe I need to get back into it (next year lol).
Married July 2014 DD born June 2016 Second due August 2020 (team green!)
@emiliadkay My current drug of choice is "The Crown" but I recently I watched "The Politician" and caught up on "A Typical." I am really excited and can't wait for more "The Umbrella Academy" and I am hoping for more "Russian Doll." I'll give just about anything a go... though a good show for me carries enough plot that it moves fairly quickly and keeps me distracted from the half way through mark I-want-to-be-done-nows, bonus points if the drives me to an occasional quick Saturday or Sunday mini session because I want to know what happens next. I only let myself watch Netflix for "me" when I'm biking so I've really turned my routine into my me time.
@BusinessWife As your trying to eat lower carb options, have you tried buckwheat? You can get japanes soba noodles, groats and flour. It has a unique taste, but it's lower GI than white flours and gives you annother option. I really love the flavour, it reminds be of going on holidays to Brittany in France as a kid, you get loads of street food stalls selling sausages wrapped in buckwheat galettes (savory crepes).
