Re: Group 1 (May 1-8) Check in w/o 12/30

  • EDD/weeks+days: 22 weeks, 2 days

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Blue

Baby is the size of a(n): Coconut/ MacnCheese box

Upcoming appointments: I have my first baby care class on 1/9! Next appointment 1/13.

How are you feeling? Generally fine. I’ve been pretty moody lately but I think it’s because I’m off work with very little to do— I know it’s a blessing to have time to relax but I’m a workaholic.

My symptoms have been very “first trimester” like lately. Very little appetite and exhausted. I‘M also feeling more movement but it’s still not close to being distinct. I can definitely feel when he’s sitting low in my uterus (which is often).

Raves/Rants: I’m starting to feel anxious because this time is the calm before the storm. When I go back to work, I’ll basically be in the third trimester and things will be crazy. The planner in me wants to get ahead of it but other than planning course materials (which is 80% done), there’s nothing I can do.

    Questions:

GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) I’m a professor but I’d be terrible at teaching grade school. I‘be said it before and I’ll say it again, bless everyone that is a teacher— you all are Saints.

Baby is the size of a(n): astronaut ice cream bar

Upcoming appointments: tomorrow for a regular checkup and then a repeat AS on 1/17

How are you feeling? Generally pretty good but I've been having some emotional breakdowns over fairly stupid and simple things lately.

Raves/Rants: my cousin told me for her baby shower almost no one actually bought anything off of the registry and just bought whatever they wanted. Has me nervous because there are so many things we need but clothes isnt really one of them.

Questions: I guess in your experience, do people usually follow the registry?

GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) hmmm I worked for a small time as an assistant in a veterinary office. I was really not emotionally okay when animals didnt make it or had to be euthanized. Didnt stay there more than 6 months.
  • @randic22 great question! I’ve been obsessing over the registry trying to find just the right things. I’ll be pretty disappointed if people just get w/e. Even more disappointed if it’s something I can’t return.

  • @drkoyya @randic22 with my first baby, most people either bought stuff off the registry or bought me stuff I had no idea I needed. I am guilty of not buying stuff on registry but doing a box of things I learned about during my first year of motherhood that made my life so much easier once I discovered them. For example: the Medela breast milk soap. Holy shit that stuff is amazing! Works on formula bottles too. Also, I thought that the swaddles with Velcro would be great but they suck. Get the zipper ones! Velcro will wake your baby up every single time.
I honestly wouldn’t obsess too much over the registry.
  • EDD/weeks+days: 5/2 22 week 5 days

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Pink

Baby is the size of a(n): coconut or hedgehog

Upcoming appointments: January 13th regular prenatal appt

How are you feeling? I’ve been feeling really good actually. Almost too good to be true, but I’ll take it!

Raves/Rants: I’m going to miss being able to pee whenever I want when I go back to work on Monday 😕.
Also for Christmas my in-laws thought it was appropriate to buy the baby toys, ornaments, and diapers when she isn’t even here yet. And they said well you aren’t having a shower so we wanted to get something for the baby. Still with this freaking shower thing! Well, I do have a registry so if you were going to spend the money on something using that would have actually been helpful instead of a bunch of random things I now have to store and figure out what to do with them. I’ve also been very superstitious and I don’t want many baby items until we get closer to the due date, but they have not respected that at all.

    Questions: None for now!

GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? A nurse - God bless them! I would not be able to deal with shots and blood and fussy patients!
  • EDD/weeks+days: May 5 / 22 + 2

Baby is the size of a(n): Tall as a box of kraft Mac & Cheese

    Upcoming appointments: Jan 20

How are you feeling? Tired. Always tired. And back to being nauseous most of the time. Yaaaay.

Raves/Rants: We’re pretty much done with the nursery, I still have a lot of random stuff to cross off our list but big ticket items and nursery are done. It’s a little early, but with delivery bills, DS1’s treatment, DS2’s broken leg that will last months, and birthdays coming up, it needed to get done.

    Questions:

GTKY: What job would you be terrible at? (stolen from group 3) Likely anything with people. I’m not very people-y. I get overwhelmed very easily. This was not the case pre kids. My degree is in English education, which would have been fine, but now I don’t think I could handle teaching.
  • On the topic of the registry. No one bought off my registry when I had a shower. We got the most random/sporadic stuff. If you’re very picky about products or what specific stuff, go ahead and talk to family members that might want to buy you specific stuff. Otherwise, start looking for deals and whatnot. You can usually return most stuff, so there’s that. We got 3 outfits and a blanket from family over the holidays. Those are pretty standard gifts in my family as far as new baby.
  • I got really weird gifts. A doll, stacking cups, diapers, an ornament for the Christmas tree, etc.  Not sure what I am supposed to do with these things. Also I am not hanging an ornament on my tree when she isn’t here yet. Stacking cups are great when she has fine motor skills and the doll is slightly creepy.
Oh wait and a onesie that said mommy is having a rough day call 911-grandma WTF I’m sorry these are all jabs at me. A blanket and outfits would have been normal and thoughtful gifts at least. But they made a comment about no shower so these gifts are intentional passive aggressive gifts I wouldn’t have expected anything less 🙄
  • @babyfoxden10 It gets worse. My mom and MIL
are notorious for buying clothing with trashy sayings related to grandma and whatnot. They get donated and I don’t lose sleep over it. Holidays and birthdays are exhausting because people buy what they want and never follow the list so the kids end up with repeats or stuff we don’t have the room for. It’s a never ending cycle. I’ve learned to just say thanks and donate what doesn’t work.
  • @rox7777 haha! I have a feeling these will end up in the donate pile as well
