Re: Product spotlight: maternity clothes

  • The majority of my clothes are hand me downs from friends, gap, old navy, h and m or target. Last time I had a summer pregnancy so I probably need a few more things for winter. It’s easier at the moment because oversize sweaters and leggings are still working for me right now.

Most of my maternity clothes are from Old Navy, which is only available online. I used to love Target, but they changed their brand and I don’t like the new one as much.

FYI, Old Navy is having a sale on their clearance items which includes summer and winter items. got a few cute things for a good price.

  • Basically all of my clothes are hand me downs. Anything I bought new is mainly. Old navy because the price is right for clothes I won't be in for long. A few shirts from kohl's. Cannot wait for dress weather to get here.

All my maternity pants are Old Navy and most of my shirts are too. I find a lot of their tees too thin, so I usually layer them with a tank/cami. I bought a bunch of nursing camis last time and wore them through pregnancy (muuuuch better support than the usual shelf bra types) and never looked back.

I  also have a couple motherhood maternity or nursing tops that I got on sale.  I like them better, but not the price. :(

  • Bought a bunch of sale items from old navy! The tops are all wonderful. The leggings tend to fall down a bit but I’m hoping that will get better as my belly grows
  • I just got a bunch of hand-me-downs from a friend, but I'll probably need more. I can still wear most tops but the pants aren't comfortable buttoned. I went to Target and their maternity pants were not comfortable at all. I'll check out Old Navy!
  • Last time I bought some tops and jeans on sale at gap and then bought leggings and tights from target and I tried to make my non pregnancy tops and dresses last as long as possible with them! This time I’ll probably do the same but add some H&M dresses into the mix as I really like their maternity wear and they’re easy to transition between seasons

  • For those that can't get hand me downs easily, I highly recommend thread up.  I got some items from there and they were all in great shape and a fraction of the price.  My mom and one of my aunts also treated me to a shopping day at one of the Motherhood Maternity stores that were going out of business and I was able to get some work clothes.  For decent prices ($15-$30 a piece) the quality seems higher than a Target or Old Navy and I figure I will probably end up wearing them still for at least part of the fall till I loose the belly.

  • I love sun dresses, with leggings and a cardigan or hoodie. I don't always need cardigan to close, so I can get away with wearing most pre-pregnancy ones, and have loose dresses a plenty!

Lots of Old Navy hand-me-downs, and I've had great lucky at mommy&baby resale shops. I have stuff in maternity small thru extra large, as I have a short torso and grow out so much belly. I'm already growing out of several shirts and a couple bottoms, even though they fit great pre-and early pregnancy.

My one love is the crossover Ingrid and Isabel pant series at Target. They have a few styles, all are comfy, and they generally have pockets!

  • FYI - Old Navy has maternity on clearance and with code DEAL an additional 40% off.  I have 5 maternity tops in my cart right now for $50.

I was also able to get a "lot" of maternity clothes in my size from Ebay.  That's coming in today.
  • There's a company called the sprout collection that does monthly maternity clothes rental. I'm thinking of doing it for the last three months. I have some formal events so instead of buying dresses, would just rent them! Great for high end work clothes too, they have awesome sweaters and winter clothes. Reasonably priced! It might just be in Canada but I would recommend!
  • I bought clothes from motherhood maternity and old navy during Black Friday sales. Loving both though I won’t be buying anything from motherhood maternity without a good sale.
Old Navy keeps having good sales so most of my wardrobe will probably come from there.
I also have friends sending me hand me downs. One friend highly recommends poshmark for second hand maternity wear.
  • @emodelski 90% of my maternity clothes are old navy. Love them especially for the price.
  • @emodelski Motherhood maternity is going put of business so you can likely find some good deals in their stores right now.
  • Tall girls: Target has a pair of under the belly skinny pants that are 30" length. They are great! https://www.target.com/p/maternity-inset-panel-ponte-pants-isabel-maternity-by-ingrid-isabel-153/-/A-52474318?preselect=52362987#lnk=sametab

I'm having trouble finding tall maternity pants that are also under the belly - I hate the way the over the belly ones feel on my stomach during all 40 weeks. It seems most tall lengths are sold out! Hoping they restock soon.
  • @kimber308 I don’t like them either! I couldn’t find any. My favorite ones from old navy they don’t make anymore.
  • @kimber308 I have one pair of under bump leggings from old navy and then a bunch of non maternity ones that I just roll under the bump. This and a couple pair of side panel jeans are basically my entire pant wardrobe right now. I cannot wait for spring and dresses.
  • My good friend recommended Ross to purchase maternity clothes!  Holy macro they have a large selection and really nice clothes for cheap!  I literally spent $160 got 7 pants and close to 20 tops. I’m set for a while but would seriously recommend going. I am on a very tight budget so I was happy to get designer clothes at a very reasonable price! :)

Nice, good to know. I wonder if Burlington has a maternity section in store? Our local Marshall's and TjMaxx do not.

Also, I hate to be that guy, but please, for the love of all things online forum, change your user name. If you need help, let us know, but change it!

  • I’ve reached the point where not even my loose pants fit. I ordered three pairs of maternity jeans and a pair of tights heaaavillyyy on sale from ASOS (like $60 down to $18). I need to get some flowy dresses and then hopefully I’m set

  • @hayhay2501 just hit that point myself! I got 3 pairs of work pants from old navy along with black and gray tights, that paired with what I have from last time will hopefully get me through.
  • I've just grown out of my first round of maternity pants. Next size up please! OK, lol, two sizes up now.

  • I bought 3 pairs of H&M jeggings from local mamas that I found online in my area for $10 each. Then I ordered one pair of jeggings from H&M on sale for under $20 with tax. My SIL gave me a few things, and I’m going on a trip soon so I ordered a pair of leggings and bathing suits from Old navy for amazing deals! Bathing suits and leggings $15 each. I have another friend lending me some clothes for this trip.  Most of my tops are still fitting for now!
  • I got some thermal (waffley weave) maternity shirts from the Old Navy sale and they are life. I don't know why I love this texture so much, but I put one on as soon as they got here and it was like getting a big hug. 😂 I may just be dramatic because I have another 🤬ing daycare cold. YMMV.

  • I just put in orders for Old Navy and Motherhood.  Good sales right now.  I am hoping they fit well.
  • What are the most comfortable underwear to wear while pregnan?
  • I’ve always been a small and lately I’m finding that my underwear don’t fit well. Like the ride too low in the back. I just bought a bunch of higher waisted ones from Aerie in Medium. I hope these will work well. @sram331 I’ll keep you posted.
  • @sram331 I like soma embracable. They stay under my bump even with my short torso. Forget the exact name but they are obviously not the high waisted ones.
  • @sram331 I just got a pack of the hip huggers from the new Target line to try. They were only 9 and bucks for 6 pairs. So far they are fine. Better than what I had been wearing.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I just do full seat (very important, those cheeky cuts with half my butt hanging out are SO UNCOMFORTABLE!) hip hugger cotton cheap ones, in one size bigger than usual. Short torso over here, so anything mid rise or higher doesn't fit onto bump at all, so just ends up bunched over it. And what's the point there? I'd rather have less fabric sitting in one spot, so low rise here. I've never tried maternity specific underwear, because I've never seen any that are cotton, not lacy, and cheap. Ever. So, screw buying expensive underwear that might cause yeast issues!

  • I do one size up in my regular brand of cotton undies (but switch from bikini to briefs) for second tri, and the maternity fold down kind that sit under the bump for third tri. If I try to wear the maternity ones too early, they slide around too much and annoy me. This approach worked for my first pregnancy and working pretty well this time too.
  • I just ordered some sized up, full bum maternity underwear off Amazon and although they are not pretty or sexy..... They are glorious!!!
