This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Letrozole, Ovidrel, IUI, Progesterone, PNV, baby aspirin, folate, vitamin D, CoQ10
How are things going?: Okay. I forgot how emotional the mix of the HCG shot and progesterone make me.
Any questions?: The extra progesterone is causing so much acne on my face, anyone have a good solution?
GTKY: Tell is about a tradition you have.
Every year a friend and I have a cookie baking day where we bake hundreds of cookies. This year it was around 600-700! We gift them to our offices, friends, neighbors. So much fun!
@ramzlau it sounds like your acne is hormonal which you can't really fix. I only recently found out that my face mostly clears up now that I use hydrating toners, cleansers, and moisturizers. I still get the occasional cystic zit, but things clear up so much quicker now that I found what works for my skin. A chemical exfoliator was also a game changer for me.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): biopsy in 2 weeks!
How are things going?: great! I did my shots Saturday night at my parents without any suspicion. And I used my new wake up/sunrise alarm clock to get up today and it was amazing how easy it was to get out of bed! Hoping today goes by fast at work since I'm off the rest of the week.
Any questions?: Nope
GTKY: Tell is about a tradition you have. We have our tradition of seeing the AHL game in our city the day before Thanksgiving. I can't think of anything more exciting. We do a yearly trip to northern WI with DH's family but I'm hoping we can rent our own place on a lake instead of 6 of us being so close together in a small house

Diagnosis (if you've been): unexplained IF, unexplained RPL, possible luteal phase defect/low progesterone. TBH I don't know why my RE hasn't done more testing for hormonal issues or done an endometrial biopsy by now.
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Waiting to hear back from the RE's office about whether or not I can do a medicated cycle with monitoring.
How are things going?: Eh. IF is such a viscous cycle. This time is year is super-triggering. I guess you could say I am in the middle of a perfect storm. Trying to suck it up and be grateful for what I do have, while being bombarded with pictures and other reminders of what I can't have. I'm just fed up with the merry-go-round of anxiety and depression. Tired of being expected to just suck it up and deal because heaven forbid I make anyone else feel awkward or sad.
Any questions?: Nope. Maybe I will once the RE's office calls of they decide to switch my meds or up my dosage or something.
GTKY: Tell is about a tradition you have. My family doesn't really have any traditions anymore. When I was younger my aunt would have everyone over for Christmas Eve and a Yankee Swap. That was fun because we always did silly gifts.
@ramzlau that's quite an impressive number of cookies!! @inthewoods23 glad your new alarm clock is making it easier to rise and shine. I hope your day goes by fast, too!
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO, CD 8 with a 13-14 mm follicle so at least two more days of shots and a Christmas ultrasound
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI #4 with Follistim / Ovridel / progesterone
How are things going?: out of all the meds, Follistim makes me feel the worst.
Any questions?: Why do I have to work and be late when we need 13 subs already?!
GTKY: Tell is about a tradition you have. We don’t really have any holiday ones now. When I was a kid, Santa left a gift on the table for each of us to open immediately along with our stockings (so our parents could sleep in). DH and I went to the Rockefeller tree on our second date and repeated it for four more years. I’d like to start that up again.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
@ramzlau That amount of cookies is impressive!!! I did a cookie box for friends and family one year and it was a ton of work! You go girl!
@inthewoods23 Yayyy for ninja shots!!! Also, I need more details on this sunrise alarm because I think I need one too!
@emeraldduchess so very many hugs, friend. I think in the New Year it may be time to start asking some of these questions about your testing, since it seems that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
@NYTino24 Good luck today at work!!! Thinking of you!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Waiting for IVF
How are things going?: I talked to my aunt last night and let her know we'll be starting IVF in the new year, and she actually had some information about my mom's fertility troubles that I didn't know, which honestly is throwing me off a bit. Apparently my mom had endo, which is new information for me and is now another thing I'm going to be paranoid that they'll find when monitoring begins. Certain things also now make more sense *TW loss discussion in spoiler*
I knew my mom's losses were all relatively late, which my aunt confirmed that all 5 happened at around the 12 week mark, I'm wondering if that means they were endo related. My RE has already tested me for chromosomal issues because of my mom's losses. Obviously these losses were all in the 70s so not much point in speculating beyond this point though.
Any questions?: Not yet, just lots of things swirling around in my brain.
GTKY: Tell us about a tradition you have. We spend the holidays with my ILs because my parents are gone, so Christmas Eve is the big event - lots of family and friends at my ILs, then we all stay after everyone leaves to open our family gifts. We do a big yankee swap and have Italian food. Then MH and I go home and open our gifts to each other, and we've both said it's our favorite part.

@ramzlau - OMG that's a crazy amount of cookies! I've struggled with pretty bad hormonal acne since coming off birth control and this is the only thing that works for me (it's seriously a miracle and it's safe during pregnancy so you don't have to worry about stopping it) - it's called "Meltdown" by Blume. I also started using the Star Girl face mist and I love it. I will still get some spots, but this will heal them so quickly! Also echoing @inthewoods23, I use a chemical exfoliant a few times a week (I use this one) and moisturize really well every night.
@inthewoods23 - Yay! Glad you finally got the sunrise alarm clock and are liking it!
@emeraldduchess - IF sucks. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time right now. Sending you positive thoughts and creepy internet stranger hugs!
@NYTino24 - Oh that is such a good idea about the one present to hold you over!
Diagnosis (if you've been): Endometriosis, borderline PCOS, unexplained IF
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): FET - Transfer is Friday!
How are things going?: Relieved that my lining finally started responding to the estrogen and thickened up enough to schedule the transfer. My DH administered the first PIO last night and it wasn't bad at all - although it's already quite sore. My dad and sisters know we're doing IVF, so my PIO on Christmas will be fine, however his family doesn't know and we have a huge Christmas eve party with them. Trying to figure out when we'll do the PIO shot that evening - I'm thinking we'll just do it super early before we leave for the party.
Any questions?: Nope
GTKY: Tell is about a tradition you have. We don't have any traditions that we still do. Hopefully we'll be able to start up our own soon.
@NYTino24 I'm sorry the Follistim is making you feel lousy and that you have to work today. 💙
@feather_heather so excited for your transfer on Friday! I will be keeping everything crossed for you!
@mvt2003 I am glad that you could open up to your aunt. I hope that your RE will take your mom's history into consideration when treating you. My mom had fertility challenges too, which my RE noted on my records.
AFM the nurse at the RE's has to get approval from my doc to allow another medicated cycle. I don't have an appointment with her until Jan 30, though. Hopefully she'll approve since the appointment is in the books. I'm assuming IUI counts as a medicated cycle. So we may need to just hope for the best this time around.
Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, Blood-clotting Disorders, High Natural Killer Cell Count/Activity, AMA, DOR
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Hysteroscopy coming up. The results will determine if we go forward with another IUI, or pause to do an endometrial biopsy after ovulation.
How are things going?: Just eh. Everyone is stressed about the holidays so it’s taking a lot of the fun out of it.
Any questions?: No, but THANK YOU to @inthewoods23, @bows22, @NYTino24, and @emeraldduchess for answering my hysteroscopy/anesthesia question over the weekend. Your responses were super helpful & eased my fear a bit of going under.
GTKY: Tell us about a tradition you have. My parents set us up with many wonderful traditions. Now that they’re both gone we try to continue them: a big Christmas Eve party with all the huge family & close friends, lots of food, lit candles & caroling in the neighborhood. Then on Christmas Day we come back together to watch the many nieces & nephews open their gifts from all of the aunties & uncles. Christmas night is quieter: we are hosting Christmas Dinner at our house for the family.
@emeraldduchess FX you can get the approval without having to wait much. Sorry it’s all been so challenging lately.❤️
@NYTino24 I love the one present + stocking combo idea. Brilliant! I also love that YH & you used to revisit the Rockefeller Center tree every year. MH & I had our best date just strolling the city, looking at all the window displays down 5th Ave, & ending up drinking hot chocolate at the Rockefeller Tree. I’d love to re-live that.
@feather_heather FX for you for Friday!!! As for the PIO pain: it helps to apply warm pressure (hot water bottle and/or massage) and you can also apply arnica cream or gel to help with bruising & pain afterwards.
@mvt2003 Sorry to hear that the additional info in your mom’s IF history is making you feel more worried. Knowledge is power—hopefully this is just one more thing to check off the list of questions? I can relate to a lot of your posts about your parents being gone. Doesn’t it seem like we are way too young to know what that feels like?
@inthewoods23 Glad you found a sunrise clock that seems to be working for you! Hope work is flying by for you today.
@ramzlau That cookie tradition sounds amazing—and like a ton of effort! And I can u fortunately relate to your question about the hormone-induced acne, but I haven’t found any good solutions. I’m going to try the things featherheather listed.
@keikilove Oh friend, I didn't realize we were both in the same club. I'm so sorry you're in it too. I do feel far too young to know everything I know, you're very right. It's a bitter comfort, but a small one nonetheless that I never have to live through losing a parent again. MH reminded me of that a few years ago, and it's something I hold to.

@mvt2003 I have never thought of it that way before. It is the worst pain I’ve ever lived through (and I’m still not over it) so to think I never have to experience losing a parent again is a comfort. Thank you for sharing that!♥️♥️♥️
@keikilove I'm so glad that can help. It truly is one of the things that helped me through losing my mom.

@keikilove - Yay! Those two products are like my holy grail! Meltdown has a strong essential oil smell, but you'll get used to it! I hope they work for you too!
Got a call from the surgery recovery department of my RE office setting things up for IVF. Things are getting real! I’m kind of in shock. Meanwhile, I’m getting a taste of the stims with the Follistim for IUI#4 and feeling tubby. Everyone knows all of our business so at least I won’t get asked about having a fluffy belly. Saw my RE for the US today and she seemed iffy on when we would do the IUI. She basically said my IF is unexplained and we will see how things go, that she also isn’t sure how we could purposely fail another SA so it is what it is.
*TW* Another couple’s success A couple was obviously excited to graduate and brought in unused meds to give back and I was fine with that although they were loud about it but then he started loudly talking about questions to ask the doctor. There are sometimes couples that come in together and we all know what that means when a nurse calls them back, but dude, read the room and keep it quiet. The place was packed with gloomy looking women, so you’d think he’d shut up.

@NYTino24 so excited for you to start IVF if this IUI doesn't work. Hopefully it does though! I'd be mortified if I talked loudly in a waiting room. I can't believe that guy!
I'm surprised they are allowed to return unused meds as my clinic doesn't allow that. Might be a state rule too idk. I have a completely unused 450 Gonal-F pen sitting in my cabinet. 😕 And a 5000 unit of novarel trigger shot.

@inthewoods23 I think they actually do take back unused, unopened meds for some patients who have financial issues. I don’t know exactly how it works, but I did see something in writing somewhere.

@inthewoods23 so glad things are really starting to move for you, finally!! I hope today went fast and I am totally looking into one of those clocks!
@emeraldduchess I totally understand the feelings you have, I think we all do. It really is such a rollercoaster ride of anxiety and stress and emotions every since cycle. The ups and downs are really hard sometimes.
@NYTino24 I love the traditions you have! Sounds like our bodies are both operating a little early this time around! Hopefully that means great things for both of us!
@mvt2003 I’m so happy you talked to your Aunt and that she had some insights for you. I hope this new information about your moms history doesn’t lead you down the same path but I hope it gives the doctors some insight on what to look out for too.
@feather_heather yay for the transfer getting scheduled!! Friday will come so quickly since it’s a holiday week!
@keikilove I’m sending you extra love, my friend! I’m sorry that everyone is stressed around you. It does put a strain on trying to stay in the holiday spirit. ♥️

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): 7.5 of letrozole, Mucinex, IUI and progesterone after the IUI
How are things going?: Well, yesterday I had my first monitoring appointment on CD10, instead of on CD12 like I normally would go in. My estrogen at my baseline appointment was raised so they wanted to see me early Incase I would O early. The RE yesterday said they saw one large follie at 27mm and that my lining was almost at 7 but that it looked like there was fluid in my lining. So they waited for my bloodwork to come back and then told me to take mucinex to try and dry up the fluid and to come back the next day for another ultrasound. My LH yesterday was at 10.
i went in today and this RE (different office) said there were two follies, not one, and they were both at 18mm! My lining was at 7mm (after three measurements), which is where it needs to at least be at, and there was no fluid in my lining, so that’s great! Got the bloodwork back and it showed I am surging! LH went from 10 to 24 in one day and my progesterone was starting to go up. I’ve always had to do the ovidrel for the IUI but not this time!
IUI is tomorrow morning... Merry Christmas Eve to us!
I’m hoping the RE will let me go in a few days after the IUI for bloodwork to confirm that I O’d... I’m not so sure I trust my body fully lol as this is the first IUI cycle that My blood shows that I’m surging.
Any questions?: none

@kpearse99 so excited for you! Good luck tomorrow! 💚 @keikilove lots of hugs to you, friend. 💜
My RE signed off on another medicated/monitored cycle. I go in tomorrow for my baseline. Back on the rollercoaster we go. I told DH last night that before our next appointment with the RE, we really need to sit down and talk about how much longer we want to continue with IF treatment. I know that IVF will be brought up as an option and DH needs to understand what it involves and that there are no guarantees we will get our THB. There's no way I am walking into that appointment without DH and I being on the same page.
@emeraldduchess it sounds like you and I are at the same point of our TTC journey. While we are doing this IUI, we already have our “regrouping” consultation scheduled with our RE on January 2nd (before we even do the beta for this IUI) to talk about other options. Like you, I know that IVF will be brought up. DH has made it clear, since the beginning, that we won’t be doing IVF, but I have a feeling he’d be open to at least hearing what it all entails and then taking time to make the final decision about it. I honestly don’t know how i feel about it for us, I really don’t know if i want to go down that path since insurance doesn’t cover it. I think if insurance covered IVF for us, we would absolutely move forward. I think it’s a great idea for you to make sure you and YH are on the same page before going into that appointment. I’m strangely calm about where we are at right now... it’s a weird feeling.

@kpearse99 DH knows that IVF involves a lot of injections, and me being put under for egg retrieval. But, I really want him to do the research so he knows more than just what I tell him. Our insurance will likely cover most if not all of IVF (we live in a state that has laws about IF coverage), but I'm sure we'll still have to jump through a LOT of hoops to get it. Getting time off work will also be tough because I can't/won't disclose that info to my boss.
Crossing everything for your IUI today! Good luck! 💚💚💚
My monitoring appointment was good. Estrogen is good, and my lining is already at 10mm. I go in again on the 30th.
Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

@emeraldduchess Yay for getting the sign off on another medicated cycle. And yeah, every step of the way is always a regroup and discuss with H to make sure we are on the same page. I hope the discussion goes smoothly! And on a sidenote, my insurance is underwritten in NY so I just got notice that starting in 2020 IVF will be covered! It does sound like there is a lot of hoops though.
@kpearse99 I hope at your appointment your RE has ideas of other things you can try before getting to IVF since it isn't covered. And that is incredible that it is this cycle that your body is cooperating! Merry Christmas Eve, sending every happy vibe I can to those follies! (And 55 people wow!)
@NYTino24 Wow that does sound like the ball is rolling! And yeah sounds like he missed the social cues there.
@keikilove I hope that the hysterscopy brings some answers for you! Sorry for all the holiday stress on top of the normal crazy IF stress. Your family traditions sound like an amazing family time, so I hope that helps bring some joy for the season!
@feather_heather Thanks for the tips! Will check them out! And yay for the lining responding to the meds. Sending you the best wishes for the FET on Friday!
@mvt2003 When I finally told my mom about our trouble getting pregnant, she told me she also had problems for years. It is crazy what doesn't come up until there is a conversation about it. I am glad you were able to talk to your aunt and get some support. I hope that the new knowledge helps empower instead of creating fear.
@inthewoods23 Hope you enjoy your time off this week! And yay for waking feeling refreshed!
I had my first bleed after doing my own injection last night. I barely felt it and waited for the burn, but it didn’t happen. I didn’t notice the blood until I went to put my shirt down and of course I had skipped the Bandaid since I hadn’t bled before. Trying to decide when to go in tomorrow since I have a 6-10 window I can show up in before going to the IL.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
Thanks everyone!!! The IUI went smoothly and the nurse that did it said she’s been nicknamed “the Sperm Queen!” Haha so hopefully she has the magic touch! I’m really really hoping this is the one!
I go back on Monday for a progesterone check to confirm that I did O on my own and we are gonna DTD a few more times over the next few days to be safe!
Merry Christmas Eve, my dear friends!!

@kpearse99 LOL at "Sperm Queen". I now have an idea for an interesting crown design. 🤣 ETA: I went in for my baseline u/s today and I start letrozole tonight. Next week I go in for bloodwork and another date with the u/s wand.
@ramzlau wow that's an awesome tradition! Nom nom nom
@inthewoods23 glad to hear the shot went well. Hope you are enjoying your week off!
@emeraldduchess I totally feel the same. IF is such a vicious cycle Why can't things just get better on their own
@NYTino24 sorry you are not feeling great on Follistim. I hope this IUI works and you don't need IVF
@mvt2003 I hope this new information gives the RE some insights
@keikilove Hugs to you I hope the hysteroscopy goes well.
@feather_heather yay for transfer scheduled! Hope that you can graduate from this IF thread two weeks later
@kpearse99 glad to hear the IUI went well! Hope the "Sperm Queen"'s magic touch does the job!
Diagnosis (if you've been): elevated prolactin
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Clomid, Cabergoline for prolactin
How are things going?: Not sure if it is because of the side effect of Cabergoline or Clomid (or the fact that we only have one day off this week); I am kind of depressed, and my appetite decreased so much. It's so strange as last cycle I had crazy good appetite when I was put on Clomid + Ovidrel.
Any questions?:
GTKY: Tell is about a tradition you have. Me and MH don't really celebrate any western holidays, so we just use them as an excuse to have delicious homemade hot pots
18 mm cyst and 16 mm follicle on left side... down from 19 follicles to 1 maturing and a couple under 10. This sucks and if it’s any indication of how IVF might go, I’m worried. DH is working a 24 and we are supposed to leave for DE in the morning, but I am waiting to hear when I have to go back. The RE said maybe in 2 days meaning we will drive 3.5 hours each way to stay for less than 24 hours.
Update: have to go back tomorrow between 6:30 and 7 for more BW and US. Dosage is being cut from 75 to 50. Estrogen is in the 500s. No trip for us. My sister is gonna be pissed but we won’t get IVF approval if we don’t do the IUI and frankly it’s a priority over family right now.

Question about progesterone: I am traveling 10 time zones. I usually take it at bedtime. Should I keep taking it at the same time as original time zone, gradually move it to the new time zone, or continue taking it at bedtime on the new time zone? I only have 3 days until I test, so maybe it doesn’t matter?
@ramzlau - My doctor told me to do the progesterone injections around the same time every day, and said give or take an hour or two if necessary! So I would probably try to figure out what time it will be at you destination and take them when it would be bedtime at home. You could call your doctor and ask though!
My question is for everyone doing (or has done PIO): The injections are not bad at all! Doesn't hurt during and I don't have any soreness afterwards. Are we doing them wrong? lol Why are they so dreaded? My DH is worried that we're not hitting muscle if it's not sore! (The first one we did too low and it was sore, but now they don't hurt at all)
@feather_heather if you're moving around a lot afterward and using a heat pad you probably won't get sore. The first time I was doing the PIO it was sore the first few days and the days following the FET I didn't have the tightness in the muscle so it felt normal. It really depends on the person I think for how long the soreness lasts.

Lining was like 12.4 today and 18 mm follicle. They want me to trigger tonight (had a weird temp spike of over .6 too) and 6:30 sample / 8 am IUI tomorrow and Saturday. I feel like we could give it another day considering my OPK isn’t close to positive, but I’m tired of injections already and following their plan means DH doesn’t have to go into work late. Let’s hope our last shot (pun intended) before IVF works!

@NYTino24 Those numbers sound great! FX for this shot!
@feather_heather It sounds like you’re very lucky & not to worry about doing the PIO wrong.😊 Once I switched to the thinner needle I don’t have any pain or bruising until the very end of the cycle of shots. And then it’s only if I press on the area or do high-impact exercise.
@ramzlau Exeactly what featherheather said. Good luck with the travel!

A couple was obviously excited to graduate and brought in unused meds to give back and I was fine with that although they were loud about it but then he started loudly talking about questions to ask the doctor. There are sometimes couples that come in together and we all know what that means when a nurse calls them back, but dude, read the room and keep it quiet. The place was packed with gloomy looking women, so you’d think he’d shut up.

I'm surprised they are allowed to return unused meds as my clinic doesn't allow that. Might be a state rule too idk. I have a completely unused 450 Gonal-F pen sitting in my cabinet. 😕 And a 5000 unit of novarel trigger shot.

Any questions?: none

@keikilove lots of hugs to you, friend.

@inthewoods23 That’s great news!
@kpearse99 Hope your IUI goes well!

Diagnosis (if you've been): elevated prolactin
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Clomid, Cabergoline for prolactin
How are things going?: Not sure if it is because of the side effect of Cabergoline or Clomid (or the fact that we only have one day off this week); I am kind of depressed, and my appetite decreased so much. It's so strange as last cycle I had crazy good appetite when I was put on Clomid + Ovidrel.
Any questions?:

My question is for everyone doing (or has done PIO): The injections are not bad at all! Doesn't hurt during and I don't have any soreness afterwards. Are we doing them wrong? lol Why are they so dreaded? My DH is worried that we're not hitting muscle if it's not sore! (The first one we did too low and it was sore, but now they don't hurt at all)
