Baby is the size of a(n): Mango, creme brulee, hot dog (hungry now...)
Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan Thursday!!! I was nervous about it but hearing the heartbeat at my midwife appointment today helped a lot
How are you feeling? Excited, congested, pins and needles in my hands and feet (prenatal massage should help with that apparently, since it's circulatory). Anxious about the anatomy scan.
Raves/Rants: Rave: Today we had a massive subway delay that was so bad it made national news, but thanks to some really lovely people I both didn't have to wait on the platform long and got a seat on the train right away. Going to need to pay forward some of that love because it meant I got to my appointment on time and hear my bean. Rant: It is becoming a real workout walking in the snow while pregnant and we've got months more to go of this here!
Questions: Anyone else scared about their anatomy scans? I was so excited until recently when I suddenly was worried something might be wrong
GTKY: What is your favorite side dish or dessert for a holiday meal?
My family makes an Icelandic cake called vinaterta. It's 7 thin layers of a cardamom-flavoured sugar-cookie-like dough, with layers of spiced fruit filling in between. It's labour intensive, time consuming and SO DELICIOUS. It is one of the most nostalgic flavours to me and always reminds me of my Amma who used to make them and send them out to us at Christmas time. Sometimes since it's such a big process I make a sandwich cookie version instead. It's also messy as heck to eat.
Upcoming Appointments: We have our anatomy scan next week
How are you feeling? Still bouncing between feeling great and feeling weak and light headed. Also, this congestion is awful.
Raves/Rants: DH and I work for the same company. I've been bringing raisin bran in the morning for breakfast. I forgot my bottle with milk in it this morning so DH was nice enough to stop and get me a small container of milk. He brought it to my desk and it's half & half. It was the most delicious raisin bran I've ever had. Completely disgusted with myself lol.
Questions:
GTKY: What is your favorite side dish or dessert for a holiday meal? (stolen from groups 1 and 2!) Stuffing! But not the fancy weird stuff with corn bread or sausage. I like my stuffing straight up, the boxed stuff, but the classy boxed kind like Bell's or Peppridge farms. I'm also a huge pie fan and we always get this Danish pastry thing called Kringle that has almond filling.
Sorry all-dropped the ball this week between sick mama and sick toddler it's been rough
EDD/W+D: If hospital approves it out planned date will be 4/20!! EDD 4/26
Team finding out/pink/blue/green: Blue
Baby is the size of a(n): Mango
Upcoming Appointments: Monday for 20wk scan and apt!
How are you feeling? Still so tired. But after hosting 15 for thanksgiving, 10 for friendsgiving the next day, then food poisioning for me and then sick toddler- I'm zonked.
Raves/Rants: Out of town for work a bit next week. Annoyed bc I don't land til 10pm since DH had a work meeting so I couldn't take the earlier flight. His meeting got xcld but re-booking my flight so I could get in at 2 would cost $300!! Ugh. Long few days but a hotel room all to myself still sounds great!
Questions: Nope.
GTKY: What is your favorite side dish or dessert for a holiday meal? Praline sweet potatoes at thanksgiving, anything with warm brie!
TW: 1 infant loss 8/17: Our daughter was born 8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass 2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old 4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!
@smallbutmighty77 My sister's godmother does a baked brie where she stuffs the brie with hazelnuts and wraps the whole thing in a flaky pastry, like a croissant dough, before baking it. It. Is. HEAVEN.
Team finding out/pink/blue/green: finding out on December 13th if the babe cooperates
Baby is the size of a(n): mango, zucchini, Game Boy, 4-toed hedgehog (the last 2 are from Ovia app and it makes me laugh)
Upcoming Appointments: My anatomy scan and OB appointment on December 13th! I've been counting down the days since my last ultrasound. lol.
How are you feeling? All right. Definitely trying to find the right configuration for my pillows at night so that I don't wake up with back pain or round ligament pain. I definitely woke up at 3 AM the other night with horrible lower back pain. My stirring woke up my DH, and he gave a massage to help me fall back asleep. It helped, but he was the only one able to fall back asleep. I stayed up until 6 AM before I fell asleep again. :P But the kiddo seems to be doing well, fluttering around at night and last night, he or she distinctively kicked me when DH spoke to my belly as he likes to do at night now. We repeated this about 3 times, talking and kicking; it was kind of the cutest thing ever. Trouble sleeping and an achy body are the only real inconveniences right now, so I'm trying to enjoy that right now before the baby gets bigger and I feel worse. lol.
Raves/Rants: My rave is about my OB office. I've definitely been making good use of the portal to talk to them about appointments and ask questions as a FTM, and they always call me back the next business day. It's really nice as I'm definitely the anxious expectant mom type and they've really been so kind and understanding. I can't think of anything to rant about right now - maybe traffic in our area? People need to stop texting and driving. Seriously. :P
Questions: What have you heard about drinking ginger tea during pregnancy? I want it so bad, but my mom was like, "That's not allowed."
GTKY: What is your favorite side dish or dessert for a holiday meal? (stolen from groups 1 and 2!) Macaroni and cheese...haha
@sbalding88 I've never heard anything about ginger tea but it might depend on the blend. Some herbal teas have rando natural ingredients in there that can bring on contractions or be diuretics so you have to be pretty careful. Best bet would be to confirm with a professional and, if they okay it, to boil peeled ginger root (dilute if needed) so you know nothing funky is in there
P.S. I now want that app just for those size comparisons!
@korthouse I love making my own ginger tea with ginger root, honey, and lemon, and I'm definitely going to ask my doctor about it on Friday when I go. It is so nice to drink when you don't feel well - whether it be from nausea or if you're all stuffed up thanks to pregnancy hormones. I made some for my husband when he was sick, but I abstained from drinking it myself, just inhaled the delicious smells before handing it over. I am probably being overly cautious as a FTM, but I think it'll settle my nerves about it if I ask my doctor.
