Re: GTKY: Thanksgiving Edition
We have a long drive ahead of us. We go out to my in laws and there are about 20 of us. A big difference from the like 5 I grew up with.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Cranberry sauce. I make my own and put it on just about anything: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, and pumpkin pie.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
MIL's yams.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Nothing out of the ordinary. We celebrate Christmas too with one side of the family since we're all together.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
I don't go out to shop, but get out of the crowded house. We usually just go walk around the mall.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? I love mashed potatos! We always do turkey, ham, potatos and rolls....yummy!
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food? I don't like stuffing or candied yams. I'll make them for H if he asks, but I do not eat them.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions? Not really. At H's grandma's house we show up with our fat pants on, eat our weight in food, flip through all the black Friday ads and draw names for secret Santa.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping? if there's anything I need at Wal-Mart, I go after putting DS to bed on Thursday night. That's usually it, but this year, my sister and I decided we're going to go shopping early on Friday before we have to go to our mother's house, we don't go out just the 2 of us very often anymore so that'll be fun!
Typically do Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving. We just hosted Friendsgiving last night and we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving with DH’a family.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
I’m guilty and I love carbs. If I had to choose one food, probably stuffing since I only have it on Thanksgiving
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
Cranberry sauce, just can’t do it
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Nope 🤷🏾♀️
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Nope. Between the new house and the pregnancy, everyone knows we’re on a baby budget and there won’t be gifts this year. It’s unfortunate but it is what it is.

How do you typically celebrate Thanksgiving (with family, friends, etc.)?
Typically we have Thanksgiving at home and I do all the cooking. DF's best friend lost his mom and doesn't have anyone to spend Thanksgiving with so I decided I hated the idea of him sitting alone on Thanksgiving and have forced him to come over every year for the last 5 years. Also one of my closest friends and I were talking about a "Momsgiving" with us and another friend because we all have kids about the same age and don't get to see each other much.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
I love mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. Also I like cranberry sauce on my left over sandwich lol.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
STUFFING! Yuck, like I hate even making it for everyone else.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Yes, after dinner we watch Christmas Vacation every year. And get out our Christmas stuff.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Dear lord no, I don't people well.
How do you typically celebrate Thanksgiving (with family, friends, etc.)?
Usually with family and friends, I love the range of traditions/ways I have been able to celebrate this holiday.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
I love cranberry sauce, always have, always will!
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
Green beans/Aspargus/any kind of quiche or casserole, it's a texture thing.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
The past 3 years DH and I have made Thanksgiving dinner at home, packaged it all up hot out of the oven and enjoy it at the Drive-in movie theater. It works great because theres always a great movie that comes out during Thanksgiving and I swear it makes the food taste 10x as good. In the past as I grew up, my family +extended family would go camping together, I can't say I remember there being a turkey but the company and fun of being with family couldn't be beat for all the pumpkin pie in the world, I miss this and it has been awhile since we have all been able to get together.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Maybe! We have a few big ticket items that I could definitely use a discount on so either hitting the shops for Friday or Cyber Monday at least...
How do you typically celebrate Thanksgiving (with family, friends, etc.)? We used to go to 3 different sides of our family, but it was too rushed and I dreaded doing it, so now we just go to one house.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Stuffing and cranberry sauce!
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food? I hate that jellied cranberry sauce that comes from a can. My grandmother always had it out for Thanksgiving and no one touched it!
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions? Not really.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping? I HATE crowds, so definitely not going out. But online shopping, definitely!!
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Potatoes. There is literally no bad way to cook potatoes. Also bread. Give me all the carbs.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food? Whatever weird experiments people think they should try. One year FIL tried to make goose instead of turkey. It was not good.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions? Not anymore, but when I was growing up, my family had a tradition of filling out predictions for the upcoming year. Some were predictions about each family member and some were about sports, politics, etc. Then the next year we would open and read each other’s predictions from the previous year and have a really good laugh about what did and did not come true. It was a ton of fun, but we stopped doing it when H and I got married and we didn’t have a “regular” Thanksgiving with my grandparents and everyone every year.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping? I have in the past, but not like in the middle of the night or anything crazy. We won’t this year because we’ll be leaving on our short getaway on Friday. I’ll still probably shop online from the car though.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Normally it's stuffing, but my MIL puts hers in the bird and I have a hard time with that. Mashed potatoes and gravy is a close second, but MIL uses jared gravy, so meh.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food? Veggies. I mean, what's the point?
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions? We spend the entire day with family and usually eat in the late afternoon. Then we complain about how full we are before we eat dessert. 😆
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping? Nope. Never have and I hope I never have to. I don't do crowds. I do hope to find some good deals on expensive baby stuff online.
Our Thanksgiving changes every year based on travel plans and such. This year, we’ll be at DH’s family so it’ll just be like 9 of us... but 5 dogs haha
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Green bean casserole
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
Basically anything that MIL cooks... she’s terrible. But also, I strongly dislike when people make “sweet potato casserole” and just add sugar and stuff to them. They’re already sweet enough!
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Just being with family and/or friends. Any year that we couldn’t get home, we hosted 15+ guys from DH’s unit just to make sure everyone had somewhere to go. Since we were the only ones with a house, I would cook the entire meal and they would bring alcohol and money!
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
lol no. I don’t even like shopping in-person normally so I definitely won’t be attending all the crowds. Cyber Monday is much more my jam.
We used to spend the day traveling between houses, last year we decided to stay home and cook because we always ended up with scraps and missed the good stuff. MH’s parents come over for dessert, my dad visits the weekend before and my mom comes every other year. This year MH’s cousin, her BF and kids are coming over because they’ve been shunned by her family.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Sweet potato casserole and fried turkey.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
Stuffing.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Not particularly.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
We did last year. I’m not feeling it this year. Amazon prime for everything.
Lately we spend it with DH's family for most of the afternoon and then hang out with my family in the evening. I think it's going to be pretty chill this year because MIL is having at her house mainly for her step kids rather than us all going to DH's Aunt's house and seeing everyone so that sounds lame and stupid.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Mashed potatoes, stuffing, and rolls
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
broccoli casserole
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Nope
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Nah, sometimes I'll go to walmart shortly after the rush just for a few of the "decent" deals, but most of the time I just take advantage of the online deals and cyber Monday. I do have some younger cousins who love black friday shopping so sometimes I can talk them into getting something for me while they're out.
We usually go to my grandparents house. My grandmother’s health is poor so I make all the other food and my grandfather cooks the turkey.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Dressing definitely. It’s the star of the show.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
I’m no fan of green bean casserole.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Just the above where I make all the things and take it to my grandparents’
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Not this year. I love doing it but we are trying to buy a house so our big Christmas is mostly going to be getting a new house. We’ll do some online shopping for the boys though I’m sure.
we typically celebrate with family - usually the inlaws, but this year we are celebrating with my family. This is actually the first year in probably 10+ years that my family will all be together for thanksgiving so it should be fun (no sarcasm - I love my family!).
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
I am one of those crazy people who loves canned cranberry! I also love my moms homemade mac and cheese and oyster stuffing!
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
not really - we generally have the same food every year. Typically we spend Thanksgiving with my Mexican inlaws and so there is no traditional thanksgiving food - my MIL makes tamales which absolutely delicious and we all just sit around and eat tamales all day Wed - Friday. It's the best. We are not a big football family on either side, so usually we will watch a family movie.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
I plan to do some online black friday shopping, but I don't think we are going out this year. It's supposed to be pretty cold and snowy and we really don't need anything.
With some of my moms family. Pretty much the ones who are at the Farm house for deer hunting.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
boxed stuffing
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
most of us hunt all morning, while my mom and aunt cook. Then we come in and eat, watch football, and hang out a bit. Usually we go back out hunting or end up processing our deer. Several of the people leave for thanksgiving dinner with their other family.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Im not planning on going out this year. Probably just do some online shopping.

TTC#2 April 2019When we lived closer to home, we used to have it with my extended family on my dad's side. Now we live 3ish hours away, and MH works for FedEx and only gets one day off, so we stay local. We have always had it with friends who live in the area and also don't have family nearby, but this year it's just the 3 of us. Part of me is excited, but part of me is sad not to be doing a big gathering.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Gimme all the sides. Stuffing is probably my top favorite.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
The turkey, haha. I take a little bit, and I love making soup and Thanksgiving sandwiches with the leftovers, but otherwise meh.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Not really, other than eat til we're in a food coma and watch football.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
Nope! Not unless you count online shopping in my PJs on my couch.

How do you typically celebrate Thanksgiving (with family, friends, etc.)?
We’ve been switching off between my family and my in-laws, but this year since we are both actually off before Thanksgiving we thought it would be nice to join my in-laws in Florida, but were told we couldn’t come since that would change our Christmas plans and my MIL isn’t “giving up” her Christmas plans...
basically if you get Thanksgiving you don’t get Christmas too so God forbid we wanted to spend time with them in Florida since we both can actually go this year. Meanwhile, we always get the guilt trip for not going to Florida for Thanksgiving so we can never win 🙄🙄🙄 Holidays with my in-laws involved blows
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Sweet potatoes with marshmallows - but only my moms
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
The turkey lol
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
Nope.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
No thank you!
What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
hmm. I love so many. Pecan pie.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
cranberry sauce. I don’t eat it.
Do you have any Thanksgiving family traditions?
we usually decorate for Christmas the weekend after. Oh and DH and I are turkey trot kinda people, but not this year. We also watch the dog show.
Do you plan to go Black Friday shopping?
we’re celebrating on Friday this year so probably not. But seeing as I’ve been getting up at 530 AM regardless these days, I could possibly go. Not too much good shopping that close to us, though. Just really a target.
