We are very firm in the “no shoes ever” camp. I have been my whole life, H never was growing up, but now he’s even more of a stickler than I am. It was a serious battle with my ILs at first, but they’re respectful now.
Someone came over to pick up their child last week after a play date and wore her shoes in, and as soon as she left I mopped the floor. Lol.
@miss.sally gotcha. Dirty carpet is about the only thing that grosses me out because it can never really be clean again, otherwise I'm not much of a germaphobe.
No shoes ever! Unless I’m hosting a holiday and people are dressed up and would be awkward without their shoes. Then I mop and shampoo the carpets immediately after. 🤣
@momoftoddlers we hosted a Christmas party last year and I still made people take shoes off. I told everyone to bring slippers. I’ve read way too many stories about the things people unknowingly bring into their homes. Plus with small/crawling children I feel like it’s way safer.
Bless all of you that do no shoes. Shoes at our house and a wild golden retriever's paws. Hahaha. I try to be clean though and frankly prefer not having shoes on when I'm home. PS When is it time to go home lol?
Shoes on not by choice would be my pick.. lol. DH is always in and out of the house and grew up leaving his shoes on, so... he doesn't take them off and I've pretty much given up on asking him to. he took them off at first, but we've been together 9 years now and he pretty much just does what his old habit was at this point. I take my shoes off, and insist that DD does and I remove DS's shoes for him. Whenever we have company they follow DH's lead and usually leave their shoes on. I'd prefer everybody take them off because, well, more mopping/steam cleaning work to do.
I guess I'm an SS on accident, but I voted that we wear shoes (because I didn't know what SS meant at first, haha). My boyfriend ALWAYS takes his shoes off immediately upon coming home, but I'll keep mine on sometimes (like if I'm just popping in for lunch mid-day and leaving again). I don't ever keep my shoes on if I know I'm staying home. Plus, we have two big dogs who track stuff inside, even though I try to wipe their paws every time they come in. I think I'll be more of a stickler about no shoes inside at all once the baby comes. We are cleaning the entire house right now, including floors (shampooing the carpets and stuff, too), and once the baby is mobile, I'll want the floors as clean as possible.
I'm getting more and more anal about shoes in the house. I used to not care at all. Now we have almost white carpet and it's getting trashed in the entry way. It makes me irate. People also track in leaves and bark and shit which makes me want to vacuum daily which makes me feel a bit like a crazy person. It's hard because my parents and my husband don't always take their shoes off and I feel like an asshole because I have to KEEP asking them. I'm generally not a germaphobe at all, but I hate the idea of walking into a public bathroom and then walking on the carpet.
I just don’t understand why people wear shoes in the house... like it’s not even a dirt or germ thing for me, it’s comfort! I prefer to be barefoot as much as the temperatures allow in New England

@varimama I don't usually wear shoes in the house, but DH does because our floor is hard tile and it hurts his feet. He had a spinal injury a couple years ago that changed his foot-fall, so his feet get sore if he doesn't have arch support or isn't walking on carpet. He has "house slippers" LOL.
I’m SS. I like to take off my shoes when I get home but I don’t always do it the minute I walk in. We don’t ask guests to remove shoes. We also don’t have a mud room so I don’t have a good system for shoe removal.
DD has started taking her shoes off the MINUTE we get indoors and it’s actually kind of annoying. Her shoes usually end up either blocking the doorway or in the middle of the kitchen floor.
Also, re house shoes. PSA that Ugg moccasin-style slippers are so super comfy and worth the splurge this year. Put them on your Christmas list ladies! They feel a lot better on my achy back than going barefoot and I’d guess it’s because they have a real rubber bottom like an actual shoe.
@momoftoddlers@miss.sally I agree!!! I got some Jessica Simpson maternity stuff with Le Tote and it was surprisingly fantastic. I'll have to try the slippers!
