Upcoming appointments: I have one the day before Thanksgiving.
How are you feeling? Pretty good. The bp meds the OB put me on are making me super tired, but as I was struggling to sleep well, I'm not actually mad that something is helping me sleep.
Raves/Rants: Rant: I'm tired of my IL's x1000 Rave: It's kind of fun constantly checking to see if the blood test results have come back yet for gender. I'm really looking forward to finding out.
Questions: Nope.
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I read a lot of Jane Austen self-published fanfiction lately. I've not read much of anything else for a while.
@Austenista I hope so hard you guys find a home soon! Your in-laws sound horrid.
EDD/weeks+days: May 14th/12+4
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Team Lavender!
Baby is the size of a(n): Plums
Upcoming appointments: Nov. 15th
How are you feeling? Pretty good, as long as I eat early and often. My metabolism is out of control right now.
Raves/Rants: I'm so excited to be close to 2nd tri! I plan to tell my boss on Thursday and it will be so nice to stop pretending I'm not pregnant.
Questions: Nope.
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I really enjoy Tania French novels. I'm currently reading Outlander for the 867th time and I think I'll re-read the series. It's hard to find time to get to the library lately.
@Austenista I was sorry to hear that your house option fell through, I hope you get out of your IL's soon!
@ruby696 I love Outlander! I read the series during mat. leave with my son. Also, I told my boss last week on a whim - felt good to be out!
EDD/weeks+days: 5/14, 12 +4
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Blue!
Baby is the size of a(n): Plum
Upcoming appointments: Nov. 26th
How are you feeling? Okay! Nausea is still hit or miss but getting better all the time.
Raves/Rants: I went to prenatal yoga yesterday and it was amazing. I needed it so badly. It was an excellent class and the teacher has been a doula in the area for a decade. It was also just really nice to slow down and bond with this baby a little bit. My rant is that today is definitely a Monday type of Monday at work. Ready for something to go right.
Questions: Nah
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? Well, at work to my client I am currently reading "MacArthur". It's actually really interesting. Personally I am slowly working through In The Shadow of the Banyan.
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Finding out - hopefully this week!
Baby is the size of a(n): chicken nugget
Upcoming appointments: Regular OB check 11/19
How are you feeling? I wish more food sounded good right now. Deciding what to eat has become a huge pain because even though I haven't puked yet the thought of most foods makes me feel like I'm going to puke..
Raves/Rants: DH was out of town so I spent the weekend with my mom. My DD absolutely adores her and chose her over me most of the weekend to play with her, dress her, take her potty etc so I had a pretty relaxing weekend. Also my mom is just awesome in general and let me sleep in while she got up with DD and made me breakfast
Questions: None
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I typically read trashy romance novels. I feel like I've done too much reading of scholarly things for work that when I pick up a book for fun I just want to escape and not learn anything (except maybe some new dirty words).
How are you feeling? Pretty good. Not really any symptoms, but definitely starting to get a bump and feeling “full.”
Raves/Rants: I really want to know the gender, but will have to wait until December!
Questions: None
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I haven’t read anything in forever, but I really love reading & all of the suggestions are making me want to start again! My favorite book is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. It’s really captivating and powerful historical fiction!
@ruby696@rachelg777 I love Outlander, but have only seen the show. Are the books better? I haven’t read them only because I usually read the book and then watch the movie/show. I didn’t know how it would be knowing everything that would happen. Are they much different?
@peachnectarine I've never seen the show! Then books are so good, I was afraid the show would ruin it for me. And IMO, the casting is terrible (because that is NOT how I pictured Jamie and Claire in my mind), so i boycotted. 😆 Read the books, they're great!
Upcoming appointments: check in with the OB on Thursday
How are you feeling? Good for the most part! Still exhausted. I've had some bad heartburn the past few days but only in the evening, hoping this goes away.
Raves/Rants: quick rant about my MIL, who decided to go ahead and tell more people we were expecting without check with us first. Very typical of her honestly.
Questions: none today
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I'm currently reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm on a deadline to finish it and it's sequel by the time we find out the gender since this is the book that has a character MH wants to name a boy after. I'm liking it so far, if you like fantasy!
Upcoming appointments: day after thanksgiving for glucose screen.... thinking about changing that lol! Also waiting to hear from specialist for NT scan in the next few days since OB didn’t schedule me until 12+1 despite being of “advanced maternal age”
How are you feeling? Slightly better the last few days. Still tired.
Raves/Rants: DH has been helping A LOT more around the house. Laundry is still out of control.
Questions: none
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I wish I could read. Haven’t read much of anything since DS was born
Upcoming appointments: had an ultrasound today; appointment is with my midwife on Nov 20
How are you feeling? pretty good. A little nauseous if I don't eat often enough.
Raves/Rants: @peachnectarine I have to wait until December too. My partners family wants us to wait until they are all here for Christmas before we tell anyone. I already know this will be an issue with my mom. My little sister had a gender reveal party and it was a lot of drama so I wanted to avoid that.
Questions: None
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? I'm a huge Stephen King fan. One of my favorites is 11/22/63. Next book on my list is The Sandman by Lars Kepler.
@heyybritt I love The Name of the Wind - so good! The author is supposed to be working on another book, but he has been super slow and I don’t know if he’ll ever finish it.
@jess09lynn I am not a huge Steven King fan, but I also enjoyed 11/22/63.
EDD/weeks+days: 13 weeks today
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: finding out.
Baby is the size of a(n): lemon
Upcoming appointments: November 18th
How are you feeling? Have a bad cold, so tired and cranky. Nauseous still, which I didn’t expect. Wasn’t as sick with DD.
Raves/Rants: wanting to buy all the things for our house, but we really shouldn’t. At least our dishwasher got fixed yesterday.
Questions: none
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? Recently re-read the first Harry Potter book, since it was free for Kindle Prime and enjoyed it. Read “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” and thought it was great - would be good for anyone interested in C.S. Lewis.
@peachnectarine I watched a good chunk of the show this summer (well I think like a season and a half). It’s definitely not as good as the books in my opinion but it does follow the story line relatively closely!
@peachnectarine - I read The Nightingale over the summer and couldn’t put it down!
EDD/weeks+days: May 15, 12+4
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Blue
Baby is the size of a(n): Roborovski Hamster
Upcoming appointments: Nov 27 midwife appt
How are you feeling? Almost over this damn cold. Also nausea a bit more this week than last.
Raves/Rants: Rave: we told DD once we found out the gender and she is so excited. She told everyone at daycare yesterday about her baby brother so I got questions at pick up.
Questions: None
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? Currently reading (I never have only one book going): Expecting Better by Emily Oster, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley, Rise of Empire by Michael J Sullivan Suggest: my brain just blanked though I know I have tons that I enjoyed. 🤷♀️
@heyybritt I really like it and recommend it to every pregnant person. I like it so much that I bought another copy to read this pregnancy (my copy from last pregnancy was leant out then eaten by her dog). As someone who likes to know “why” on things like recommended food/drink restrictions, the research Oster has done and how it’s presented helped me feel more informed. I appreciate that she presents the data and expects her readers to be capable of making their own choices based on it.
My only criticism is that she rushes through the third semester/labor section and there are definitely things that can be better researched there. (For that info, I recommend you look at Bradley method classes. It’s a 12 week commitment, but I found it very helpful to feel in charge of my birth.)
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: will know Sunday
Baby is the size of a(n): robo hamster
Upcoming appointments: just had one Monday and have another one Tuesday
How are you feeling? Good
Raves/Rants:
Questions: I was told I’m measuring big for EDD. Midwife double checked via ultrasound for twins. After that was ruled out told me she was concerned I may have a fibroid that is growing along with baby. Anyone have this? Anything I need to do or be concerned about?
Upcoming appointments: ultrasound on 11/15 to check to see if the vanishing twin is still present
How are you feeling?: The nausea is a lot better. I mostly cant complain since it is so nice to not feel so nauseous all the time-- but the main symptom I have now is that metallic taste in my mouth. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink or if I brush my teeth I just have this funky metal like taste going on.
Raves/Rants: Nothing this week.
Questions: When are you telling people if you haven't already? Any cute ways to announce it? I did something really cute earlier this year but then had a MMC which was awful. I am delaying now telling anyone until Thanksgiving. I bought my mom an "it's a girl" ornament to give her to put on her tree when I tell her. I think she will be super shocked when I share the news of the baby and then I will tell her I have bonus news and an ornament for her and I think she is going to lose it. I actually still have a video on my phone of me telling her about my first pregnancy (around 11 weeks before finding out about MMC) and we were at a restaurant on her birthday. I had her open this big box and a baby balloon came flying out and it had a little "I love grandma" onesie in it. She lost it. It was cool to see the balloon come out and definitely made a scene. I probably cant watch that video for a while though--
GTKY: (stolen from Group 3&4) What are you currently reading, if anything? Or what’s a book you suggest to others? Ugh. I'm a professor so reading for fun is hard-- I feel guilty and think I need to be reading something relevant to my job sooo mostly textbooks and journal articles!
The cute announcements definitely feel like too much after a mmc - even though I had mine 4 years ago before having DD, it just doesn’t interest me this pregnancy either.
We started telling family and told mine by having DD wear a big sister shirt on a group facetime this past Sunday. We’ll be seeing H’s family this weekend and will tell them then either using the shirt or having MIL read a big sister book to DD.
We're not doing a big announcement even though this is our first. We started telling more people last week and my favorite way has been to just drop it in casual conversation. We were at a Halloween party last week and when someone asked why I wasn't drinking I said "well, I won't be for awhile....." and told them. Reactions have been pretty great that way.
I think I'm going to take an announcement picture but not post it to SM. Instead just share it with those I am announcing it to. I've told my friends, and H's sister knows. I want to tell my dad and sister together so I'm waiting until I see them at the same time again. I was dying to tell my sister the other night at dinner but I made myself wait. I think I'm going to buy three mini pumpkins and let DS 1&2 each hold one and then sit the third on the end with a little pink bow and have a sign say "adding another pumpkin to our patch." If I wait a bit longer, I may do Christmas stockings instead with the same concept. I've also thought about telling people at DS1's 3rd birthday which is Thanksgiving, but I feel kind of wrong taking anything about his birthday away for another sibling. I may just stay casual this time and just share the picture with who I'd like to tell. IL's might find out before baby actually comes out. Maybe. Maybe not.
