November Randoms

I don’t know where this year is going, but it’s going fast. And unfortunately the time change didn’t gain me any sleep. Just meant Nate woke up earlier 😴

Re: November Randoms

  • Confession- Declan still takes naps in his swing. It’s starting to sound super creaky and I am freaking out a little because it the only time I can get anything done.

  • I hear you about the year flying, @mccurleya.  The one thing I'll say is that 2018-2019 had so much weird chaos, I remember wondering when life would finally be "normal" again, and after pushing the "normal" date back over and over, I finally figured "Christmas 2019!"  I'm probably jinxing it, but that MIGHT actually turn out to be true: in a month, we might be in a relatively stable place with no big change on the immediate horizon.  I'll take it!

@megpeg Have you tried a chair like this one? https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Infant-to-Toddler-Rocker-Dark-Safari/dp/B00A4B34IA/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=fisher+price+rocker&qid=1572898881&sr=8-3  We switched both girls to it after the swing - N won't sleep in it, but M will.

Also, I don't know if it happens like this, but Nora hit stereotypical toddlerhood all in one fell swoop yesterday!  Everything was "I help!" or "I big girl!"  She made jokes to distract us from bedtime and negotiated for ice cream after dinner.  It's wild!

  • @ashtuesday how old is she now? Nate is no where near that good of a sentence!

  • @mccurleya Too fast! We somehow got him to sleep in on Sunday but not this morning. My six year old has been up too early too. I don’t have to worry about my 11 year old he’s hitting that almost teenage stage where he could sleep half the day.

@ashtuesday That’s crazy that she’s talking that much! Declan talks but not like that. He tells me- juice, couch, tv, then whatever show he wants in the morning. Which has been Bolt or My little ponies forever.

  • N is just about 21 months. She talks a LOT and we know it's not normal (and we know we REALLY need to stop cursing in front of her because it's only a matter of time).

@megpeg I might still be in that teenage sleep stage myself (20 years later than your son lol) - daylight saving is hitting me hard!

  • Before Nate, I also still slept forever. But even if I’m on vacation without Nate, I wake up early because my body knows he should be awake by now.

  • So my husband is back at work, and Nora is having a rough time with the transition. She gets SO upset when we leave her at day care (2x per week) and is extra clingy and fussy with my mom the other days. Any advice for helping her through?  @mccurleya, I know you're a teacher - how was Nate with readjusting to day care after the summer?
    shoretobe
  • @ashtuesday We kept him in daycare twice a week over the summer to stay in the routine. But he’s not clingy when I leave him at daycare. Only when I leave him with my husband 😂 not sure why

  • I hate having to wake up Maeve in the morning so we can leave for work. She’s not ready, it’s too early (by like a half hour/hour) and it makes all the difference. I would put her to bed earlier, but she just sings to herself and plays in her crib until well past what would have been her bedtime anyway. Really, just venting here because she had the most incredible melt down I’ve ever seen yesterday morning because she just was not ready for the day. I’m proud I stayed calm, especially being all hormonal (I did cry a little because my heart just broke for her).
@ashtuesday - maybe we’re in a phase?? We’ve noticed Maeve being clingy as well - but it’s all times, not just drop off. She just comes up and wraps our leg and says “hi, momma, hi”.
In other news I’m almost 8 weeks pregnant. I’m feeling pretty good and the dr. said the baby is doing well. It’s still a little unreal because it feels like it was so fast after everything taking so long. Just keeping positive that the LO is growing strong and healthy and just so grateful we’re here now.

  • I am so happy for you, @shoretobe!!!!  Congratulations!!!!!  I hope you feel better and better (although, I also know there's something reassuring about morning sickness), and I hope little one keeps growing big and strong!!!!  When are you due?  I'm sorry Maeve is having a tough time with wake-ups.  When N and M go to day care, they have to wake up 30-60 min before normal too, and emotions run high.  Hopefully it is something they'll all get used to!

  • congratulations @shoretobe!!! So excited for you. Nate joined the clingy bandwagon. But on the plus side of it, I get lots of snuggles after daycare.
    shoretobe
  • Thank you so much!!!! I was so excited to tell you all - and nervous too because it makes it more real. You all actually know before a lot of people we see day to day - but I really wanted to share as you’re such a great support system.
@mccurleya the snuggles are the best part of the clingy stage.
@ashtuesday you’re so right - the sickness is reassuring - I’ll take it as long as baby keeps doing well. I’m due 6/27. I think it would be so awesome if the baby came on it’s actual due date because Maeve is 3/27 and I like odd coincidences like that.

I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving....we’ll blink and it will be the New Year.

    megpegashtuesday
  • I totally understand that! When we try again y’all will be the first to know too 😂

and yes! I can’t believe another year has gone by already. However, I’m super ready for break. My students have been maniacs.

  • Awww yay @shoretobe !! How exciting!!

LO has been so absolutely nuts that i cant get a damn thing done in the house.  MH got home from work on friday and I started deep cleaning the kitchen and flipping laundry. He had the nerve to say i should  do this during the day instead of when he gets home because he wants to relax.  LO was ALL over me while i was washing dishes and trying to take stuff out of the dishwasher.  If i put up a baby gate to block him he will sit at the gate and scream.  I redirected him more times than i can count all while MH is laying on the living room floor.  He saw exactly how LO is while i try to do anything and how it takes 5x longer to finish.  He is lucky he is alive to enjoy this weekend.

  • @sgrn18 he would be so dead, so fast. Mine knows not to say anything.
Declan yells at me to he only wants me to sit on the couch and watch shows with him(aka I have to sit there while he plays and does whatever he wants not with me but if I attempt to get up he pushes me back on the couch and sits in my lap for a few.)
We do have baby gates on my daughters room, the kitchen, and the hall that goes to his room, my room and the bathrooms. I don’t know what I would do with out them. They are part of what keeps things manageable and me sane. Except that now he has figured out how to move the bench from under the table and push it over to the counter and climb up. Peeing barely feels safe at times.

  • @sgrn18 I get the same crap sometimes.

@megpeg Nate does the same thing. I can’t get anything done. And we have an open floor plan, so we can’t use baby gates 😭
    shoretobe
  • Well, Nate was fussy for a bit and I jokingly said, “you’ve gotta stop or daddy won’t let me have another one” and MH said “I already don’t want another one” and I said, “well bud I guess you’ll be an only child like (insert weird cousin here)” and he said “eh, my friend is an only child and he’s fine”

and he was serious. I am devastated.
  • @shoretobe Yay for a summer baby!!!  And I KNOW - the year is flyyyyying.

@sgrn18 Nora prevents me from getting things done in the same way (and I would've wanted to kill my husband too). Sometimes it helps if I give her small jobs to do. If I'm folding laundry, I'll set a basket across the room, hand N my husband's clothes as I come across them and ask her to put them in. It keeps her hands off what I'm actually folding. Maybe little things like that would help?

@mccurleya I am so, so sorry. Have you two had a longer conversation?  Had you talked number of kids earlier and now he's making a change?  I'm sorry.

    @DDRRT1982 How are you feeling?

@ashtuesday He wanted 4 when we were young (pre PTSD). Then we had Nate and he said he wanted 2 and then was getting snipped no question about it. Now he’s saying just 1. I didn’t ask any further questions yesterday because I was so upset. But I’ll definitely need to get some more clarification later.

@mccurleya that’s so hard! My sister is going through the same thing. She said she is doing everything she wants with my nephew so if he’s the only one she doesn’t feel like she didn’t get to experience something.
DH and I have always said four but then had 2 and he wanted to be done and I talked him into one more. Then he was done. I still think we may adopt one day but he is too stressed thinking of financially caring for everyone.

We locked all the bedroom/bathroom doors since he figures out the lever door handles! So it at least keeps him contained but he literally wants to be where i am at all times. I needed to get something out of the oven and i put him in the corner across the house and RAN to the kitchen to beat him there with enough time to open and shut the oven door.  If its laundry or something less dangerous he totally "helps" and stays distracted but he has pulled a plate out of the dishwasher and dropped it on the floor breaking it.

@mccurleya. Ah yeah thats hard.  I think MH is still on the fence about another baby but im not trying to push it right now out of fear it will set him firmly in the one and done catagory.

  • @mccurleya I'm sorry you're going through this.  Maybe a longer conversation will help shed some light on what he's feeling - and if he's changed his mind before, maybe he will again.

@sgrn18 I JUST came across this yesterday and I'm 9000% getting one for Nora - maybe it could help.  https://www.amazon.com/SDADI-Kids-Kitchen-Stool-Safety/dp/B07Y52QD6H/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=learning+tower&qid=1574183150&sr=8-6  There's also an IKEA hack version that is probably cheaper (and plenty of nicer ones on Amazon/Etsy that are MUCH more expensive), but I figure I'd rather pay the extra money than wait for my husband to magically have the free time to build one.
