Adoption

October Adoptive and Hopeful Adoptive Parents (It's late - sorry)

What route (Foster Care adoption, domestic, international)?

Where are you in the process right now (just thinking, home study, waiting for match, etc.)

Anything new and exciting happening this month in your process?

Any questions?

Any tips for the steps you’ve passed?

GTKY (Get to know you): What is your comedy movie?

  • I've been stalking this board for some time and figured I should jump in. It's a pretty quiet board but hopefully I can make a few connections. I'm up in Canada so I'm guessing a few things will be different here as well. After 4 losses, DH and I have decided to give IVF one shot (although I'm sure it will be a bust as well as I doubt any of my eggs are healthy enough at 43) And start the adoption process at the same time. We know we should be fully done TTC to start the adoption process but since this takes so long, we are slowly gathering info and reaching out to agencies. I hope it's ok to join in here.

What route? We are in the initial stages of reaching out to private clinics (newborns both domestic and international) and government agencies (waiting children, foster to adopt) We are leaning towards domestic or foster to adopt but aren't ruling out international completely. We aren't officially married although we've been together for 21 years so without a marriage license, we aren't able to adopt internationally from most countries

Anything new and exciting happening this month? We have an info session to attend on Nov 21st for adopting from MCFD (government). We were scheduled for an info session last month at a private clinic but a week before the session the agency closed their doors. They had been struggling to stay open and finally closed. That was heartbreaking. We have 2 other private clinics in BC (my home province) which we've been to one of them.

Any questions? A bazillion but I'll leave those for after my first intro post

GTKY what's your comedy movie? I absolutely loved Wine Country, sadly I could fit right in with those gals

Welcome to the group! I'm in Alberta even in Canada each province has different set of rules. We have been on the waiting list for 3 years. I  seen the article about the agency closing which is really sad. If you have any questions please ask away.
