My UO is that I'm actually glad Supernatural is coming to an end with this season. The last few seasons were grueling to get through, trying too hard, pulling characters back from the dead in some weird way.... I prefer the one off episodes that remind me more of the earlier seasons where it wasn't so plot driven. 
That said, I'll still watch the final season...

@babyroma +1 for love-hating Supernatural now, but watching until the bitter end. I feel the same way about Grey's Anatomy at this point, but I'll never give it up. It's been too many years!

She has another song that is great that is used in a lot of commercials right now: "Good as Hell".

My UO is that it’s absolutely okay to say “no” to kids. I’m all for explaining the justification for “no” to the child, and explaining what they can do instead. But the whole “alternative no” movement is not my speed. End Rant.

@doodleoodle There's an "alternative no" movement?? Yeah...I don't think I go more than a day or two without saying no to my 2 year old. Last night she asked if she could have some of "Daddy's Whikeys" (aka whiskey). That was a firm no followed by an offering of milk.

Ya, my boss tells me no all the time, so I am not going to set my kids up for unnecessary disappointment by raising them in fairytale land with all kinds of alternatives.  I respect them as humans, and give them choices all the time when appropriate, but sometimes it’s “no” and that’s ok.

@doodleoodle and @lanie1000 same! I am pretty sure my one year old’s first form of communication was shaking his head no. He also confuses that with nodding yes, but still, the point is that “no” is a necessary thing for little kiddos.

This may not even be considered an UO but I'm tired of hearing people tell me that I'm going to beg for an epidural. I know I'm a FTM and have no clue how things will be for my circumstance, but damn I still have some time before everything goes down lol.

@brookert615 That's not an UO in my book. I hated hearing everyone's horror birth stories and wanted to tell them to unload on a therapist and not a pregnant lady! If you want them to stop just tell people it's your second baby. Not a single person has offered me any unsolicited advice or birth stories this time around.

My UO is that making things is extremely important to human happiness and that convenience often comes at the expense of pride and satisfaction. It was a whole long conversation with my co-workers, but basically I think "adding to cart" is bad for the human soul in the long run.

@brookert615 that’s terrible. I respect all women’s choices for how they want to birth. And seriously, you might NOT beg for an epidural. I mean, I ended up begging for one at 8cm cuz it was just too much, I was stuck, and I couldn’t stop pushing (didn’t really want to tear my cervix).

One time there was a mom who all she did was scrunch her nose whenever she had a contraction. After it was over she would look embarrassed and say “ugh how embarrassing was that facial expression?” I was looking around for the epidural pump. Nope. She was going unmedicated. I truly believe it’s not just about how we handle pain, but that women also experience contractions differently. That’s why women describe contractions differently....they feel different to everyone. They are just more painful for some women than others. Some unmedicated moms start losing their shit during crowning, some are totally controlled and can stop pushing when the doctor directs them (to avoid tearing, to get a cord from around the neck, etc).

Anyway, all this to say that most women only know what THEY experience themself. Their experience is not destined to be yours.

@craftywitch I’m with you- sort of. I just baked homemade cookies with my girls now and it was so much fun and they tasted so much better than premade dough or bakery made cookies, BUT if I had to make our own clothes we would look like a pile of garbage.

My (maybe not) UO is that people need to stop telling me about 3rd trimester losses. My SIL did this a while ago but then at least caught herself and said "you probably don't want to hear this right now". But a couple of weeks ago my best friends' BIL decided to regale me with the pregnancy losses of people he knows. Um okay dude... Maybe don't share this with a pregnant lady. He also said some other things that conversation (non-pregnancy related) that I finally shut down point blank and told him we could talk about some other time.

@doodleoodle I mean obviously we can't make everything, but it's more that caring enough to take the time and effort for something, anything, is good for us. Yes everything is an inconvenience, but we should let ourselves be inconvenienced and slow down more often!

omg, yes. When we first told my brother he immediately went on about how things could go wrong...I was like "there's a time and place for that conversation, and this is stuff I've already covered with my doctor!"
and my other SIL did that to me too. Telling me about her friend who had just announced what she was having and shared babies name then lost it....honestly, it freaked me out enough so now it always pops up in my head and i'm always so scared to go to my next appointment.
WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS!? It's not comforting for any pregnant lady, especially not FTMs!

@mandk1233 that is literally the worst part about my job. Last pregnancy I was cool as a cucumber after I got into 2nd trimester. Now I don’t just hear about it, but I have to see it first hand. It has made me a nervous wreck this entire pregnancy.

Right what is this? Last night we finished stories and it was dark and song time and Belly was like I want to play with your watch (AppleWatch) and I said NO and put it on theatre mode and she had a tantrum and asked me like 5 times until I threatened to leave if she didn't stop whining about the watch. I told my mom about it later and she said "She's 2, why did you tell her no?" I wanted to say because I don't want her to end up without boundaries like you did with my sister (who now at 34 has never had a real job because she doesn't like it when people tell her what to do)

I've never heard of Lizzo and I'm ok with that I've also never heard of Supernatural. Sounds like something interesting to binge during maternity leave?

@leksiL Supernatural is available on Netflix. I started watching a few years ago but gave up because not enough time in my life. I think maternity leave is going to be a great time for that.

So basically, as I understand it, the alternative no movement is trying to create boundaries without saying the word no. The preschool that I work at specifically has told myself and the other teachers not to say “no”. For example, if a child picks up a wooden block and throws it across the room you would say something like, “We play gently with our toys so we don’t break them.” This is my second year at the school and I’m just so over it this mindset. It doesn’t work. The kids don’t respect you and just do whatever they want.

@leksiL there's definitely plenty to watch! They've got all 14 previous seasons on Netflix! I've been watching since the pilot and will definitely say seasons 1-5 are my absolute favorite!

I don’t have a UO this week but I am also really happy our thread is low drama! I thought we were getting close with the FB group comments like someone else said, but it seems like we dodged that bullet! In general everyone seems open minded and non-judgmental so hopefully things stay that way.

@doodleoodle, with DD I definitely try to phrase things in a positive manner such as “We don’t throw things, we use blocks for playing” but I have also said no a million times a day. Some times the answer is just no.

@jvk2012 same. I say no hundreds of times a day in many tones of voice 😬 but overall I try to channel my Mom Tiger (Daniel Tiger’s neighborhood is life, you ftms will know all about this soon enough) and be calm and give reasons etc
