@mamaqdubu we’ve always said 3 or 4, and to adopt one so I was asking MH if he thought this was the last time and he said he didn’t know. Ha. He wanted 2, I wanted 4 so we compromised at 3 and to adopt one, and lately he’s been saying 3 or 4. I think a lot of it depends on how things go this time. If we have another early baby, this is probably our last. I’m soaking up all the things just in case.
@m6agua I always said 2 and we’ll talk about it, but my first 2 were so close together (15 months) that my second pregnancy was a whirlwind having a 6 month old when I got pregnant. This time they will be 2.5 yrs apart so I feel like I have more time (and free arms) to be ale to make this one a bit more special!
@mamaqdubu this is only our second, but I really had to coax hubby to get on board with #2 so I am 99.99% sure there will not be a #3. I think I'm going to be super emotional especially at the end knowing it's my last time experiencing all of this I definitely plan to soak it up and enjoy every bit as much as possible
How old is/are your other kid(s)? DS #1 will be 3 in November, DS#2 is 15m
How is/are your kiddo(s) doing? They're feral. Just two wild boys getting into as much as they can. They keep me endlessly on my toes, that's for sure.
Any questions/concerns? Nope
What is your favorite thing about your kiddo right now? The kisses. I can say "give mama a kiss" and they both go in for the sugar. They're sweet when they want to be. No really, though, I just love them more than literally anything.
-Whether we get any updates on things will depend on if this is another boy or if we have a girl this time. If there's a girl, I know I'm going to want to update some things, but if we have another boy, we have literally everything. I do want one of those clean bottle drying racks though that look like grass. I've always just used a drying mat and I'm ready to upgrade that situation.
-I feel like any pregnancy could always be the last because you never know what could happen. I've had pre-e both times, so it's likely I'll have it again. We'd like to have at least four, but three may be all we're able to do. TWO may be all we're able to do. Only time will tell for us.
@mamaqdubu this is #3 for us too and definitely done after this one. I’m a little nervous for an “odd” number but having such a hard time grasping the reality of a family of five, and feeling super old, will for sure keep me from wanting more!
I’m a bit behind on this thread so excuse my responses being past the conversation.
Re: telling DD. We definitely aren’t going to tell her until after our first appt on Oct 1, but not sure how long afterwards we’ll wait. Her 3rd birthday is at the end of Oct and I’ve been considering telling her then. Maybe with a “big sister” shirt or something. Another consideration is how many other people we want to tell then since she will tell everyone.
Carriers - I am looking forward to using my baby k’tan again. It was my favorite carrier with DD. I also want a ring sling this time and have been drooling over Sakura Bloom slings and their scout style. I have a lillebaby all seasons, but it always felt too bulky to me. For DD I still use an onbuhimo and love it.
We’re planning to be done after this one and I am also going to try to enjoy it as much as possible. I really hope I don’t have an anterior placenta again, I hardly felt any movement with DD and I want that experience!
This is my second and I’m currently so sick that I cannot imagine having another. I always wanted 3-4 but I love spoiling DD and I don’t think we have enough to have a third. Plus dh wanted two so this must be it.
I recognize none of these carriers. With DD everyone wanted Tula or Moby. So I’m over here like wtf are all these names?
@Linsbins same on not recognizing any of these carrier names. When it gets closer I will probably be re-asking for all of the sling recommendations.
I had a Moby and loved it. Until I wore her out in the heat and caused a heat rash (June baby). So I definitely will need one of those breathable ones but I’m too superstitious to buy anything now.
How is/are your kiddo(s) doing? We have been driving in a car forever and he’s starting to get sick.. it’s a mess
Any questions/concerns? I’m worried about the transition pretty badly. Any books you all found to talk about it?
What is your favorite thing about your kiddo right now? He’s so so smart. My dad said to him “you are a great conversationalist. Do you know what that means?” Ds said smugly “ I talk!”
this is is definitely our last one. I struggle with a few health issues, had horrible ptsd after my son and it’s going to take a team to get me through this safely.
Ahhhh I’m so so excited to use all the slings again. I foresee that being a hot button with ds, he is still slinging and doesn’t want to share his slings.
@whatsbumpinpumpkin we watched Daniel Tiger quite a bit when he became a big brother and we just talked about the baby and what would happen. DS1 was between 2 and 2 and a half.
DD keeps coming over and asking why my tummy hurts. She’s so cute about it. Are you okay mommy? Why does your tummy still hurt? What’s going on mommy? She’s downstairs playing with my dad while I am upstairs losing my cookies.
You think I would have learned my first around. DS1 was born overseas in South Korea, we got rid of all the baby stuff because moving stuff was such a pain. I got pregnant with DS2 when he turned two and started all over. DS2 is now 4 and we’ve moved again so I’m down to a diaper bag, cloth diapers and some blankets. 🤦🏻♀️
Im going fairly basic this round though. DS2 hated everything. He pretty much stayed in our Lillebaby for 2.5 years straight. I need a car seat, a crib, a carrier, and a few clothing items as must have. I’ll add other stuff to my list as I remember, but I really just want to do barebones this time. We wasted so much on DS2 that he refused to use.
How is/are your kiddo(s) doing? DS is doing well. He is starting to learn and comprehend, but trying to explain he is going to have a baby brother/sister is going to take some work.
Any questions/concerns? Right now, as the pregnancy is still so new I haven't started thinking about the logistics of having a second LO. But once it sinks in a bit more, I'm guessing I'll be a little bit more freaked out.
What is your favorite thing about your kiddo right now? I LOVE when he climbs into my lap and to snuggle, or read a book, and then when I ask for a kiss, he holds out his cheek.
How is/are your kiddo(s) doing? She is doing great. She talks about her “baby sister” a ton although we have never mentioned to her that I am pregnant. Actually a week before I even found out she asked me if she could kiss my tummy because her baby sister is in there now lol. Not sure where this is coming from and we don’t talk about the pregnancy around her so I don’t believe she has heard anything but who knows? She seems happy and excited about “baby sister” though so that’s great
Any questions/concerns? None yet
What is your favorite thing about your kiddo right now? She loves to sing and dance, she puts on a show for us almost daily, and she is so loving and affectionate.
Is anyone else thinking this be their last planned baby? With this as #3, DH and I are both very comfortable with this being our last, and I have this crazy desire to like “soak it all up”, the symptoms, the announcing to our families, the appointments, the newborn phase. I’m not one to write or keep a journal (although I could try), but I’m trying to think of ways to enjoy this last time as much as possible. Does anyone else feel this way, or considering ways to enjoy this time just a little bit more than the previous?
Yes. I'm in that camp. This is our fourth. I want to soak up as much as I can. We are looking into birth photographers. We hired one for DD3, but she didn't show. I have a strong desire to have those photos, so we are going to have to start looking asap.
@pb0801 - my DD (almost 3 yrs) also has also been talking about a baby sister a ton and told me there’s one in my belly, even though we haven’t told her. She does have a couple daycare friends who have newer baby siblings so I think that’s where she’s gotten her baby fever. It’s reassuring to know that she’ll be excited to know it’s true when the time comes!
I'm struggling between waiting to tell our family so that DS1 (3 yo) can tell his grandparents he's going to have another sibling, but I don't want him to tell the whole world. For those of you with kids old enough to understand/talk about it, did you tell the rest of your family? are you waiting until your littles are old enough to not completely spill the beans too early to the whole world?
@mamaqdubu when I was pregnant with DS2, DS1 was 2ish and we didn’t tell him until we announced. This time around DS1 is 4 and he knew I was pregnant because I kept getting sick “from the baby in [my] belly.” So I told him it was a secret for a while because it takes a long time to make a baby. We did let him tell MH’s parents on FaceTime over the weekend but he kept saying, “But we can’t tell Nana. It’s a secret.”
Anyway, I’m also resigned that I have kids and I am super nauseous like 80% of the time so people may find out before the second trimester. Oh well. When we had our loss, I did publicly share it because I don’t think we should have to hide that or feel ashamed. And I have too many friends who have lost babies but felt like it was taboo to talk about and were shamed into silence. 🤷🏻♀️
@mdfarmchick I think you're right, and I don't think I would hide a loss. Do you think your DS1 is still young enough to not have a loss affect him? I worry about that as well... Like if I tell him, and the worst happens, will he just accept it and move on because he's too young to really understand?
@mamaqdubu he knew when we lost our baby before DS2... I’m not sure how much he understood because he wasn’t quite 2, but we didn’t keep it a secret. He knows we have a baby in Heaven and he also knew when I was having a hard time. We ended up pregnant again right away and we told him around 8-10 weeks because we took him to our first ultrasound appointment and he watched the baby on the screen.
I guess I’m just pretty honest about this stuff with the boys.
@mdfarmchick I've actually been really curious how to explain to our almost 21 month old about a baby sibling. He seems to understand a lot, but I'm not really sure how much he will understand about a "baby in mama's belly".
@darkrose88 we just talked about there was a baby growing in Momma’s tummy and watched the Daniel Tiger episode where he gets a baby sister. The first time we talked about it was at the dating ultrasound where he could see the baby. And then he liked listening to the heartbeat at my appointments after that.
I'm also wondering how/when to start discussing more with our just turned 2 year old daughter. I told her a few weeks ago she couldn't jump on my belly anymore because there's a baby growing in there, and then she lifted up my shirt to look for the baby lol. I think she's a little young to go around saying "I'm going to be a sister", but also if we repeatedly tell her there's a baby in my belly she might start asking about babies in other bellies or lifting shirts to look which might tip some people off so we're kind of holding off with her also.
I’m not telling DD until I’m showing and can’t avoid it anymore. She’s super sensitive and even though I already had an ultrasound and everything is okay, I’m just not ready.
I need to start looking at double strollers. I don’t want a side by side, and DD will be four when baby comes but she loves her stroller. If she sees a baby in one, she’s going to want to be in it too.
@Linsbins I’ve already started looking at double strollers too. I also don’t want a side by side. That seems like it would be really hard to control, and I’m not a big person. We also live along a highway and can walk into our downtown area, but it’s a gravel shoulder and I don’t want a wide stroller on there.
Side by sides are actually easier to maneuver than tandems. If you put the heavier kid on the front of a tandem it’s really really hard. And you can’t jump curbs, etc.
DD #1: April 2017 DD #2: May 2020 Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022
@catem07 I have a tandem City Mini, which I bought because I loved their single stroller. I hate it. It's so heavy and definitely not as easy to maneuver with a bigger kid in front. So totally agree with you.
Also, several side by sides are the same width or not much wider than a single seat. 🤷🏻♀️ The only “tandem” stroller that I like is the Joovy Caboose and I will say that those are not wheels I would want to push on gravel.
EDD/Weeks + Days: June 3 (no June BMB yet, so you're stuck with me ) 4 weeks 4 days, so basically I'm barely pregnant
How old is/are your other kid(s)? My oldest is 5 and in kinder, youngest just turned 3 last week
How is/are your kiddo(s) doing? They are both currently thriving! My oldest has quite a medical history but looking at him you'd have no idea. My youngest has had a couple of hiccups, but thankfully he has outgrown everything.
Any questions/concerns? Meh, I feel like 2 to 3 won't be so bad because at least the older two can entertain each other. Also, my parents now live 10 minutes away which they were an hour away when my 2nd was born so I'm very much looking forward to having them so accessible when I have a newborn! Even if it's so my three year old can get some attention while I'm with baby, it will be huge.
What is your favorite thing about your kiddo right now? They're both such their own little people and it's fun to see them develop their personalities and learn new things.
We have a contours options elite double and I love it. I chose it because I could buy an adaptor for our existing infant seat and the versatility of shifting around seats. Sometimes it’s a booger to fold but otherwise no complaints. 10/10 would buy again.
