What are you looking forward/concerned about regarding adding to your family? We have a roommate right now, and he'll still be here come March, so I am a little concerned about space in our place. It's not like we suddenly won't need the $ the roommate is saving us.

Rants/Raves: (trying to think of different ones than I put in Group 3!) ....I guess a rave is my laptop isn't making me seasick today, and a rant is that my office deskchair has never felt more uncomfortable.

Questions: Anyone start their registry yet? I started mine based on what ppl have been talking about in the Product Spotlight posts, but I haven't put much in it except for the categories that they've been through here. I guess I don't really know how to tell if something someone else has liked is for me/not? I've also got PGAL brain, so I'm paranoid about starting it, but I didn't want to save it to last minute, so I figured I'd put some stuff on it and I can always change it.

GTKY: What element/s of pop culture will be forever tied in your mind to your childhood? Very young childhood: She-ra & The New Kids on the Block. Elementary School: "The Sign" by Ace of Base & the Fugees THE SCORE album +, for both, 80s/90s country music! Esp. "Achy Breaky Heart" by BRC & "Should've Been a Cowboy" by Toby Keith
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: March 8, 13+2

What are you looking forward/concerned about regarding adding to your family?

Mostly looking forward. Two things in particular: the nearest daycare that takes infants is French immersion and reasonably priced, which I’m pretty stoked about! And my partner gets almost 6 weeks of paid leave, so we’re thinking of using some of that time when babe is ~8/9 months old to travel — maybe Norway or Italy 🛫

Rants/Raves: Nausea has finally loosened its death grip and I managed to stay up until 10 pm twice this week. @kagesstarshroom, I think they were telling the truth about the second tri, haha.

Also, I did a bunch of research and posted my long list of thoughts on registering in the week one check in for last week — it might help with where to start!

    Questions: Nah, not this week.

GTKY: What element/s of pop culture will be forever tied in your mind to your childhood?

Pirates of the Dark Water, with my dad on the couch. Rugrats. Savage Garden. I also started reading Harry Potter when it was first released, so that’s pretty tied with age 7 onward.

  • @kagesstarshroom I am so impressed that you started your registry already!! I seriously am stuck in this stupid rut of - A) just want to know if baby is healthy (I won’t know until week 17 or something ridiculous cause I couldn’t do NIPT, and B) fixated on wanting these symptoms to go away - that I have to push myself to do anything other than sulk.

@pdx2020 ahhhh I love Harry Potter so so much!!! And Rugrats!!!

    EDD/Weeks + Days: March 24th 11w

What are you looking forward/concerned about regarding adding to your family? Looking forward to all the “firsts” - first time at zoo/aquarium/Disneyland and holidays with a little one! Concerned that my favorite thing to do in life (and what I do most of my free time) is sit on my ass and watch TV/movies...I am in for a rude awakening!!

Rants/Raves: Rant...over all things first trimester. Rave...doctor put me on modified duty making phone calls to patients instead of seeing them in hospital YASSSS!!

    Questions: Not much.

GTKY: What element/s of pop culture will be forever tied in your mind to your childhood? All things Disney.
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: March 10th/13 weeks

What are you looking forward/concerned about regarding adding to your family? I am just really looking forward to being a mom. My husband is so nervous lol He doesn't have much experience with kids, especially newborns. I think he is going to be such a great dad. He is anxiously waiting for us to find out the sex. Although he won't admit it I know he is Team Blue lol

Rants/Raves: Rant: Have been waiting for my NIPT results since Aug. 15th. Finally gave in and called my OB and they said the lab still hasn't reviewed my sample. Ugh very impatient at this point.

Questions: None that I can think of.

GTKY: What element/s of pop culture will be forever tied in your mind to your childhood?

Spice Girls, N'sync, Backstreet Boys, 90's Nickelodeon, Disney Channel Movies, Goosebumps
  • @kagesstarshroom My office chair is the most uncomfortable thing ever! I am thinking of buying a pillow for it. My back is killing me.

@pdx2020 Did my first ever book report on Harry Potter when I was in 5th grade. Still obsessed with all things Harry Potter till this day.

@mrsc918 Also looking forward to all the "firsts" with the LO. It's so exciting!
  • @stacey6689 I HAVE a pillow for it =/ I guess I need a fluffier one. GET A FLUFFY ONE.

@mrsc918 Our NIPT is next week (1 week from today), so we'll know within two weeks from today, though like I said, I'm wondering if we should also do the NT & what my OB thinks of it. Why is yours so distant slash did you choose not to do NIPT? I am AMA, though, soooo that's a different story from most.
  • @kagesstarshroom yeah I’m not AMA or high risk, so they don’t offer NIPT for me and I don’t really want to go through the hassle of finding it elsewhere. So the genetic screening they will do is the NT scan (this Friday) and then the California Prenatal Screening which consists of a two part blood work, one at 10 weeks and another at 15-18 weeks, and u need both completed before you can get results so I won’t know for a while 😭 hopefully NT scan gives me some peace of mind!
  • Confession: I didn’t know what FTM meant until now so I’m late to the party.

EDD/Weeks + Days: original due date was March 25th but it was changed to March 28, so I’m back to 10w4d

What are you looking forward/concerned about regarding adding to your family?
more than anything, ive always wanted to be a mom and I’m excited to begin this journey! That being said, I’m very cautious not to romanticize the whole process of bringing a child into the world. Every family lifecycle change comes with positives and negatives and I think it’s crucial to accept and know that there are going to be TONS zig challenges for me, for DH, and for our marriage. That being said, I think we are 100% ready to take them on 😊

Rants/Raves: ugh due date shift may mean NIPT blood redraw as I took it at what I thought was 10w2d but according to my latest ultrasound was 9w6d. They told me to be sure I was 10 weeks so I’m hopeful there’s enough of baby’s DNA in there to get results in 7-10 business days.

Questions: when did everyone hear the heart beat with a Doppler for the first time? Too early for me yesterday but I’m curious.

GTKY: What element/s of pop culture will be forever tied in your mind to your childhood?
ALL OF IT! Haha! I mean honestly cartoons after school with my cousins, watching rugrats, full house, Arthur, power rangers, family matters, playing super smash brothers and Mario cart on N64, reading Harry Potter over and over and waiting for each book to be released, all of the Disney movies!!!
  • @kagesstarshroom A+ for getting that registry started! I’m feeling too out of it to get my sh** together. I think I’ll go ahead and start second trimester - which is now far :) and YES with the music!

@stacey6689 sorry you’re still waiting for NIPT, that’s so annoying. Also GOOSBUMPS! DH and I started watching old episodes for fun a couple of years ago.

I also dont don’t know how I let music get away from me on the pop culture front!! BACKSTREET BOYS, N*Sync, Britney Spears’ first album (and second and third), Getting Jiggy With It, Men in Black, JLOOOO, Eiffel 65, BIGGIE SMALLS, puff daddy, Destiny’s Child!, TLCs Waterfalls and Scrubs, I can just go on and on.

And all all of the 90s movies! Mrs. Doubtfire (Robin Williams could have his own category of 90s childhood movies 😢), home alone, Matilda, free Willy, space jam, the parent trap, Mary-Kate and Ashley everything for me!
  • @dunder_mifflin omg right so many good nineties movies! I feel like they are movies I can watch a zillion times and still enjoy.
  • @kagesstarshroom totally! I still watch them, home alone every Christmas is on repeat!
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: 11 weeks 3/27/20

What are you looking forward/concerned about regarding adding to your family? Concerned about so many things! That I have no idea what I’m doing, child care, lack of sleep (I NEED my sleep) etc. but so looking forward to all of the firsts, and seeing the world through my child’s eyes with every new experience.

GTKY: What element/s of pop culture will be forever tied in your mind to your childhood? I was super into Japanese culture and anime in middle school (late 90’s, early 00’s) especially Sailor Moon. I’m also a huge Harry Potter nerd (everything baby is going to be HP themed)!
  • @creativesoul63 YESSSSS SAILOR MOON OMG! Sames on being into Japanese culture in Middle school around the late 90s! I wound up working at the comic store at the mall for a couple years that sold a lot of anime/sanrio stuff in my later teens/early 2000s, and recently have watched ALL the dubbed original Japanese eps of SM. ^_~* Moon Prism Power! Though Jupiter was always my fave.

Y’all I have my NT scan tomorrow (12w4d) and I convinced myself I was fine and excited for it but I’m actually really anxious and just hoping little Bebe is okay in there. I’m feeling very emotional today and I think that’s why 😣 I’ve had no symptoms, spotting, etc other than cramping which I assume is stretching uterus and there was a heartbeat at 8 week dating scan so I have no reason to be anxious but I just am.  It’s not rational, lol, but I’m just a bit on-edge. Any advice?
  • @dunder_mifflin, I felt the same way (“NBD, this will be great OHNOBUTWHATIF—“). All I can say is that there is a very, very good chance that everything is great. And even though the measuring takes a minute, you’ll be able to see LO moving around almost instantly! So, I guess, try not to think about it!
  • @pdx2020 that was actually very validating! Lol. I also have been having some sharper cramping the past few days. I called my midwife and she wasn’t worried but it has me freaking me out a bit and leading to the OHBUTWHATIF?! Thoughts. As a therapist I know what happening with my thoughts and anxious response, haha, but at least tomorrow I’ll know all is likely well
  • Thank you so much everyone! Baby was good, she was dancing her heart out at the NT scan 💕
