How are you feeling?: Normally okay, yesterday my gout popped up so I'm annoyed.
Rants/Raves: Rant- Freaking gout! I must have kidney issues. I've decided to go 100% vegan as a last stitch effort to avoid medication (not safe while pregnant, and a side effect listed is premature death which is fine if you're an 80yo man, but as a 30yo woman I am determined to avoid this). Rave- I sewed baby boy pants and a matching top knot hat already and have knit half a romper since I spent yesterday laid up. I'm excited to finally be back into crafting mode!
Questions: Belly bands @brookert615 I have a similar one, but the cheaper version that only has velcro, from Motherhood Maternity. I loved it and thought it was completely worth it! I used it to exercise throughout pregnancy, at the end I even wore it under my clothes at work, and then postpartum I LOVED having it hold together my midsection. Idk if it actually helped me recover quicker, but it felt like doing something proactive in the early days when you're not supposed to be doing anything.
@craftywitch That's so good to know! Thank you!!! So sorry about the gout! Hope you heal up quickly! That's so cute you got to make some clothes for baby boy!!!
@brookert615 let me know if you find a good one. My midwife thinks a band will help with my sciatic nerve pain.
@craftywitch ugh damn gout! I had what the doctor thought was a gout flare up in my big toe when I was 23 or 24, but it’s never happened again. Hurts so bad!

Baby is the size of a(n): can of soda
Upcoming appts: Anatomy scan and 20-week appointment on 9/24
How are you feeling?: Pretty normal aside from the sciatic nerve pain. Loving feeling those small, subtle baby kicks!
Rants/Raves: Our first accepted offer fell through, but we were able to accept another offer on our house the next day. So relieved that’s done! Can’t wait to move to our new house!
GTKY: Depends on my mood. Mostly I just don’t like screaming heavy metal or hard rap. But mostly when I’m in the car, I’m listening to NPR.
@craftywitch I am eagerly anticipating baby crafty mode, but it hasn't hit yet. Still doing mostly selfish knitting, lol.
EDD/W+D: 2.8 / 17w4d
Team: pink
Baby is the size of a(n): as tall as a hershey bar
Upcoming appts: Friday for a quick heartbeat check and printouts of my medical records in preparation for the move.
How are you feeling?: Tums are currently my best friend. A little out of it because I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep until around 1am last night. I gave in and ordered a u-shaped maternity pillow and had it shipped to my father-in-law's house (our first stop on this crazy international-move). I'll see it next week, hopefully.
Rants/Raves: Movers are coming today and tomorrow. The move is finally happening...but still no flights. Still hoping to fly next Tuesday, because we've already sold our car and tomorrow starts that hotel life. Monday is my last day of work.
GTKY: Looking through my phone, I think the two biggests genres represented are pop (including country pop) and geeky folk music.
@daffodil_shoe The sciatic pain is the worst which is making me want one, stat! Glad you got the second offer on the house!!! Also super exciting you’re feeling baby kicks!!! ❤️
@noxacanthus Hope that maternity pillow gives you relief! Also wishing that you can get the flights and have safe travels!!!
@clee5711 Hope you’re able to get some rest, soon!!!
@daffodil_shoe big NPR geek here too! It's my go to on the drive home. My commute is 25 miles each way (roughly 40 minutes) and it's nice to feel like it's productive and not wasted time.
Baby is the size of a(n): Weighs as much as a hockey puck!
Upcoming appts: Anatomy scan - 9/30
How are you feeling?: My allergies have killed me this weekend! I never had allergies before pregnancy and it kicked my butt this weekend!
Rants/Raves: Maternity bras are the best thing ever! Who would ever wear anything else?!?! EDIT: I felt the baby yesterday! I can't wait to feel it again!
Questions: Does anyone have experience with a water birth? I am intrigued!
GTKY: What is your favorite type of music? Mostly Alternative, Rock, Top 40, a mix
@burr1371 I labored in a birth tub last time, although had to get out for the actual birth because my water broke and there was meconium. I am kind of hoping to give birth in the tub this time, although last time I had no tearing at all and the midwives told me that side-lying birth is the gentlest with least tears and that tearing is more likely in the water... Still considering it! I'm sure it'll be decided in the moment, but I plan to labor in water 100% of the time.
@burr1371 I had a water birth with my last baby. I do think it helped with the contractions, and MH was able to catch the baby in the tub. I would recommend it for sure, especially if it’s your first. I think that could have helped me a lot with labor pains with my first, since everything took much longer.
@craftywitch@therealbitts Thanks for the positive vibes about the water birth/laboring. I know I can labor in a tub where I deliver, I am not sure about the birth. I am going to ask at my next appt
I wish my hospital had tubs, even just for laboring. We only have showers. I sat in my tub at home in hot water when my water broke and contractions started. It helped so much, I didn’t want to get out! But I also fully plan on getting an epidural so a water birth would obviously be a no-go.
@daffodil_shoe hell yes to the epidural. Things moved way too quickly with my 2nd for it to work and I would really really like it this time around.
The hospital ill deliver at has amazing birthing rooms that all have a tub and big shower. The tub is suppose to be just for laboring but my nurse last time said she’s had a few deliver in it.
