Margaret is a family name and we want to use it if we have a girl - we
would call her Maggie by the way. I was thinking Carolyn as a middle
name (my mom is Carol and MIL is Ann - thought it was kind of a mix of
both). DH said his mom's name is not Lyn, it's Ann. He's not being an
ass about it, that was just his initial reaction. The other choice was
Kate (my great grandma is Katherine). Any thoughts? And if Maggie is
not your style, you don't have to tell me, we already chose that one.
Re: XP: middle name for Margaret?
I think Margaret Carolyn/Katherine/Kate/Ann would be fine!
fwiw I think Maggie is a very sweet NN

I love love love Maggie...I wanted to name mine that if I have a girl, but then I had a horrible roommate in college, so I cant do it, but i love it for someone else!!:)
I like Kate or Carolyn. I also like Grace, Claire, Elise....Margaret is traditional, but the NN makes it different. So i think anything will go with it!
Margaret Helen sounds great together imo.
What is your middle name? Maybe use that instead?
I also love Margaret Katherine. :-)
I love, love, LOVE the name Margaret. It's one of my top girl name choices (it was my mom's middle name). DH hates it, unfortunately :-( I love Maggie as a nickname, and I also like Greta.
I agree with your husband -- Carolyn is definitely not a mix of Carol and Ann. It's a mix of Carol and Lynn! I love Katherine as a middle name -- Margaret Katherine is beautiful. So is Margaret Caroline (or Carolyn, I just prefer Caroline), which honors your mom, even if it doesn't honor DH's mom. There's always your second kid for that! Or, if you wanted to use Ann or Anne, Margaret Anne is more common, probably, but still pretty.
my sister had a baby girl in Sept. and named her Margaret Patricia.
They're going to call her Greta for short. Patricia was after my mom.
