Wondering if anyone has had same issues as I am... had my 14 week ultrasound doctor found my little girl is measuring a week behind, I only have a two vessel umbilical cord, and there is a small area in the brain that does not look right. I am now going for an amnio. Nothing showed up on nipt test but now this. This is my 6th pregnancy, all my other ended in miscarriage weeks 5-9. So I was really excited when I made it the second trimester but now I'm second guessing everything. 3 weeks till my test and another 2 for the results. Will this be a month of hell? Should I be extremely worried about my baby?
The good news is that the nipt came back low risk, so odds are lower that there is a chromosomal abnormality.
In your title you said cyst on brain, but the body of your text said there is something wrong with the brain. If it’s a cyst, it more than likely can resolve and does not indicate alone a chromosomal abnormality. My six year old had one that resolved before birth and I was told it’s a normal variant and unless combined with other markers is not a reason for concern. She was born healthy.
The two vessel cord most definitely can cause growth restriction, but at this gestation one week behind can be a reason for additional monitoring, but not necessarily a reason to give up on the pregnancy. Many babies are born healthy with two vessel cords.
Your daughter definitely has some reasons to be monitored closely, but she could still develop normally and be born healthy. Ask your healthcare provider to calm your anxiety by giving you the positive possible outcomes. I like odds, so that’s a question you could ask.
Good luck and prayers for the best best possible outcome.
I just wanted to pop in in solidarity. I am having twins and one of them is measuring small so we will be doing an amnio tomorrow to determine any genetic or placental issues. I hope your drs will be doing closer monitoring as well as the amnio. Wishing you the best 💜
Hi there! As @DDRRT1982 mentioned, cysts on the brain often resolve on their own before birth. As far as the 2-vessel cord, yes it is reason for concern, but I work in a birthing center. We have had a handful of babies born with 2-vessel cords, but they were pretty healthy babes! Best of luck, and hoping for the best for you and your babe!
How stressful! I’m sorry you’re having this added anxiety. I just wanted to echo PP two of my SIL’s babies had cysts on their brain in utero and both cysts completely resolved and they are very healthy, active boys. Please keep us updated. We will be thinking of you!
I can see why you would be stressed! Both of my kids has choroid plexus cysts on their brains at their 18-20 week ultrasound. This could have been an indicator of Trisomy 18 which would have been devastating but neither had any other indicators! Both were born completely healthy! Keep us updated! We are thinking of you!
I’m sorry for the extra stress but hopefully all will turn out just fine. Make sure you feel like you’re getting the right care and hopefully that will be able to help you have some peace of mind. Sending all the thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE: Amnio sucked and results did not answer much for us. But due to the fact she is measuring 3.5 weeks behind in growth and has some brain abnormalities along with some other indicators. My doctor is recommending I terminate as it could be something fatal. Going to get an ultrasound today to see if there has been any progress the last 3 weeks but feeling pretty devastated at this point. This will be my husband and I's 6th loss in 4 years.
@kjwilliams6714 I can’t imagine the stress and sadness you must be going through. Whatever the ultrasound shows, I’m glad you have a supportive husband and a good doctor on your side.
@kjwilliams6714 I’m sorry. 😥 I hope you’re doing okay and finding all the support you need. I know there’s nothing we can say but I’m thinking of you and sending prayers.
@kjwilliams6714 I am so sorry for your loss Make sure you and your husband take some time to yourselves.
